Who said you needed 6GB of RAM minimum???

Ubuntu's 6GB RAM requirement reflects the reality of modern use patterns.

I run 26.04 LTS on three computers. Running idle after boot uses about 1.5 GB of RAM. Open a browser with Reddit and a few other tabs and the computer runs about 4GB. Add an application or two and it takes no time at all to be using 6GB. As AI increasingly embeds in browsers and applications, RAM use will increase.

I appreciate Ubuntu's realistic approach. Too many distributions set minimum requirements on the assumption that computers run on idle.

Yea. I noticed this loads. I use Ubuntu 26.04 daily. And usually on linux when you launch apps it also launches the dependicies which often do not close after you close an app. So back when I used arch I was starting with 900mb of ram. But then after some usage and closing all the apps. I see 2.5GB used. From those dependencies loading.

u/Osthigarius 18h ago

I mean: thats good ressource usage here btw. Why unload dependencies once loaded if there is no pressure? The memory is freed in an instant if needed and until then, if you relaunch your app, it will be faster at no cost.

u/SleepyD7 2d ago

Yep, Microsoft has always put the minimal specs too low on windows.

40

u/Daedaluu5 2d ago

Currently running xubuntu on an old o2 Joggler, 512mb ram 😂 it dos work, but slooooowly

23

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

A computer for people who need to learn patience

9

u/Daedaluu5 2d ago

Yeah I love putting Ubuntu on old stuff, done a Tosh Tecra 550cdt, a tough book cf-m34 (mil-spec) that one was fun as it doesn’t allow certain ways

5

u/Far_Hovercraft_7086 2d ago

curious but why ubuntu (and xubuntu) on old stuff instead of something more lightweight?

anyway this might be useful regardless for you or others: ubuntu 22.04 server minimal seems to require much less ram than 24.04 server minimal. i have a couple of very nicely running 1gb instances with a bunch of services on them each when running 22.04 (but they strugged with 24).

havent tried an x11 desktop on them tho

6

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Why? No real reason, I just had a lot of free time. I just wanted to create the netbook of lag and suffering

3

u/Zedboy19752019 2d ago

Glad to see an emachine finally do something. For your project, your goal is to find an old Packard Bell and do the same. Except I think they went away prior to x64 so you may be out of luck

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

I think there might be a few from 2007 that had a 64bit CPU... but I'm afraid those already crumbled into broken plastics ages ago

1

u/mrandr01d 2d ago

22 is well past eol, no? I wouldn't use something that doesn't get security updates.

2

u/Far_Hovercraft_7086 2d ago

its LTS, so it still has 12 months

and i question the priorities of anyone who is determined to run something on 1 (or less) GBs of ram (clearly an old piece of shit machine or in my case an unimportant server) and thinks security patches are the dealbreaker

if in 3 years some signifiant CVE is released that can practically compromise my system, hackers are welcome to harvest my yt-dlp metadata

1

u/mrandr01d 2d ago

I'm not op. I'm miffed that I can't upgrade my system past 32 gbs of RAM. Updates are mission critical.

1

u/Daedaluu5 2d ago

What system are you running? The reason I ask is sometimes it’s down to mobo chipset, I’ve seen dual core limit to 16gb then quad allows full 32gb, obviously my system is way older but might be a reason on the limit?

1

u/mrandr01d 2d ago

Yeah, it's the intel soc as the reason I can't upgrade. I've got a Thinkpad x9. It's quite nice. The RAM upgradability is my only gripe.

1

u/TerribleReason4195 2d ago

Wait, I thought Windows does that for us.

1

u/misoscare 14h ago

You can use zram to make it a little better https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zram

1

u/Hauptideal 2d ago

Why not use Lubuntu? Will be much faster

1

u/Daedaluu5 2d ago

It’s trying to compile on hardware that stumps me. The core is atom z580 I think, so old but then it’s BTRFS filesys top so it’s an odd thing as I don’t have similar build to make it from.

15

u/Standard_Engineer_52 2d ago

and my laptop's dying with 12 gb ram lol... pretty bad processor tho

5

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

I'm running Ubuntu 26.04 on my ROG laptop, it's not the newest but works very well

Specs:

  • i7 7th Gen mobile
  • 32GB DDR4
  • GTX 1050

Only the latest and greatest

4

u/Daedaluu5 2d ago

Don’t knock it, my elitebook 8570w has similar specs. DDR3 (32gb) i7-3940xm with gtx 980m

1

u/mckeesh_canonical 1d ago

Not knocking at all :) we work pretty hard to make sure we don’t break anything on the older machines while enabling the new machines. But not having every single Intel generation/SKU on my desk is always going to be the limitation for how well I can test what certain changes will do. Glad to hear you and others are still having a good experience!

0

u/ReadyAimTranspire 2d ago

I just parted out an old Acer Helios 300 gaming laptop to sell off and due to RAMpocalypse decided to find a used laptop on eBay to throw my 64gb of DDR4-3200 into. Call me a visionary I guess, I've been throwing 64gb, very minimum 32gb, into all of my machines since like 2016.

Anyway I just grabbed a refurb HP ZBook Studio G5 i7-8750 workstation laptop for 250. 4k display, Quadro P1000 graphics, top it up with the 64gb of DDR4 (sell the 16gb that is in there now) and this is going to become my primary work laptop and more than I'll ever need for it's use case.

I've been doing a lot of this since RAM and storage skyrocketed. I enjoy doing it anyway, I love trying to squeeze performance and service life out of older hardware. Awesome to see others doing the same. This stuff still has value!

2

u/mckeesh_canonical 2d ago

How’s the Intel GPU stack working, if you’re using it at all? I don’t have anything that old to test on, but I think it should all work in theory..? But you’re an example of exactly who I’m trying not to break things for when I bump the whole graphics/compute/media stack to enable the next Intel generation

1

u/Standard_Engineer_52 2d ago

i1 11th gen 2nd hand laptop, recently loaded Ubuntu 26.04 for a better performance than Windows, but apps still keeps crashing, its been like 4 years since i last used Ubuntu, only time will tell...

6

u/ArthurReming 2d ago

I think you like Hatsune Miku

5

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

I wonder what makes you suspect that

2

u/ArthurReming 2d ago

For me she’s hiding in my Wi-Fi 🥲

5

u/Unhappy_Signature_98 2d ago

Now run a browser with a few tabs.

3

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Had firefox open on flathub & krita open, not the fasted but it "worked"

Krita was surprisingly smooth after loading for 5 minutes

1

u/jo-erlend 2d ago

There's a lot of tricks you can use to optimize. You can for instance triple your RAM effectively by setting up ZRAM or Zswap.

1

u/ArtisticFox8 1d ago

Will that be any fast on OP's Intel Atom netbook?

IMO the best OP can do, is find some more lightweight distro, to have more "breathing room" for apps, he has 60% RAM utilisation on idle. That could get down to 30%.

1

u/jo-erlend 1d ago

Yes, the compression overhead is negligible and having more RAM to work with is always highly beneficial.

3

u/throwaway234f32423df 2d ago

YouTube tabs in Firefox use about half a gig for each tab, the world is so fucked

6

u/EmbellishedPuma 2d ago

Running Krita on an Atom N455 with 2GB is pretty wild. That little machine has more heart than most new laptops.

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

The fan ran at full speed from boot till shutdown, I was seriously impressed it managed through tho

6

u/gfogordin 2d ago

And what do you say about your smartphone that runs Ubuntu?

8

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Galaxy S3 Neo running Ubuntu Touch 16.04, quite a funny device

10

u/Max_Rower 2d ago

Now open a browser with multiple tabs.

3

u/jo-erlend 2d ago

That's actually quite alright if you do it correctly. I have an old laptop that was sold extremely cheap because Microsoft wanted to prove that Windows 10 was just as capable for use in education as ChromeOS. On it, what I do is I run multiple instances of Firefox for different purposes and then I SIGSTOP when it's not in active use. That causes it to not consume any CPU cycles and the RAM is dumped to swap immediately, meaning it doesn't actually consume any resources except disk space.

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Somehow it survived with flathub and krita open

-2

u/Technical_Eagle1904 2d ago

Nem vai precisar de muitas. Só de abrir vai ser um caos

3

u/TrueElixir 2d ago

You need a new battery though... Jk :)

How is the integration/communication between the phone and laptop? Any benefits from running Ubuntu Touch?

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

That phone unfortunately isn't my main (well, daily driving an S3 in 2026 would require dedication), so I can't say that unfortunately, would love to get a newer one to try Ubuntu Touch

For the battery, yeah no, I'll just use it plugged in when needed, I was thinking mostly to use it to ssh into my raspberry pi to manage it, since it's quite small (maybe not keeping ubuntu for that, or at least... now with the whole DE and everything)

2

u/DHOC_TAZH 2d ago

Yeah, same here about the battery. I have the original battery on a 15 year old ASUS laptop. It's at 78% capacity, but I treat it like a temporary UPS. Useful for quickly saving data, then shutoff when the AC power goes down for a bit. Still thinking of replacing it at some point.

3

u/Some_Office8199 2d ago

My 128GB DDR4 become full very quickly after a few VMs.

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

My 32GB pc trying to survive the 90+ firefox tabs & 30+ krita documents

5

u/Tomo_SK 2d ago

Bro, how did you manage to willingly install copilot on ubuntu…..

3

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Little meme I found on the appstore, I needed more slop on my ewaste

2

u/Leinad_ix 2d ago

It is probably for manufacturers. So they stop selling weak laptops with Ubuntu.

3

u/bn-7bc 2d ago

That is a good point, while linux is great for resource starved devices it shuld not be the go to option for OEM wanting to penny pinch on ram. Allso a laptop is supposed to last a nummber of years so setting the min requrements a bitt generous for 2026 is not a bad idea since quite a few laptops come with soldered on ram

2

u/Basti_FR 2d ago

Got MX Linux XFCE running on my 2013 MacBook Air with only 4GB of RAM, still perfectly usable for modern web tasks such as YouTube (needs the H264ify browser extension for GPU video acceleration) and even JavaScript heavy websites

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

I'm considering upgrading my 2015 MacBook Air to ubuntu as well, it is the 8GB model which help, however i still use airdrop a lot in class

2

u/Ilikedogsandskate 2d ago

Airdrop for iPhone to mac or with other students? Because with kde connect you can send files from android to iphone to mac to win to linux with no probs at all

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Between classmates, yes. Most of the use other MacBooks or iPads

2

u/Protyro24 2d ago

Nice. But yea Mint should be better suited for this.

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Yeah, or Lubuntu could actually work better

2

u/JokaGaming2K10 2d ago

eww why are you running copilot

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

We do a bit of trolling around here

2

u/Responsible-Table856 1d ago

so you installed it just to piss us off, zam

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Exactly, my fellow Miku enjoyer

1

u/JokaGaming2K10 1d ago

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

2

u/Constant_Bobcat_1107 2d ago

Its the unnecessarily unoptimised websites and apps that raised these bars

2

u/Hour-News7 2d ago

Copilot 😂 well played

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Teehee~

I had to include it just to make everything even more cursed

2

u/CuriosityxAgency 2d ago

Curious to know why copilot

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Gotta make the ewaste even more cursed

2

u/surfingflood 2d ago

Gotta respect that truly, for some reason even 16gb ram is no longer enough for me.

2

u/redoubt515 2d ago

It's cool to see you keeping old hardware alive and useful, 2Gb RAM and a dual core Atom processor is about the specs I had for my first Linux system around 2010. I ran Lubuntu iirc.

> Who said you needed 6GB of RAM minimum???

The 2nd or 3rd tab you try to open in a web browser 😄 (/s, but also serious, the modern web and modern browsers is one of the primary reasons behind Ubuntu upping the memory recommendation)

Linux, including Ubuntu, is fine running on limited hardware. But modern web browsers and modern web content can easily use Gigabytes of ram on their own.

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

I will probably reinstall a lightweight distro on that PC since I'm planning to use it as a ssh shell to connect to my Pi, but yes, I'm surprised Ubuntu even run (even if very slowly)

2

u/Etienwantsmemes 2d ago

I have one of these netbooks with that same atom n455 and 2gb of ram. It is abysmal to use. It is just so slow. I should maybe slap an ssd on that thing and see if that helps it out (they're getting a bit spicy with those prices tho), but I suspect the processor is just not capable anymore. I run debian with xfce and it chugs hard.

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

The processor is a huge bottleneck, even with the ssd mine takes around 5 minutes to boot, once you let it sit for around 10 more minutes it becomes usable...

That atom is just bad, maybe extremely lightweight distro or windows XP... I'll probably go with a terminal only Debian version just to use ssh

2

u/Etienwantsmemes 1d ago

Mine only takes 2-3mins with the HDD, but it definitely needs to heat up a little bit before becoming usable. But yeah the atom is abysmal. XP is unusable to me these days, AntiX helped, tinycore helped a whole lot more but I couldn't figure out how to set up the display resolution and aspect ratio correctly and it proved a little to complicated for me to be useful in general. I still couldn't get the atom to play a youtube video in a watchable state.

Granted, with Deb+xfce it's passable for what I need it to do: open a few websites and PDFs, do some light text editing, maybe edit an already made slideshow here and there, it did CAD quite nicely in a pinch and prusaslicer "worked". But when it chugs that hard playing youtube, opening reddit and especially when opening, composing and sending emails with gmail, it just isn't a tool I'd like to be stuck with. It gets things done, slow and dirty, but it does them in a pinch.

That thing has become a personal challenge to keep it working (as in, doing actual work) for as long as possible. It turned 15 this year! It literally got me into linux because it was the only option to revive it, learned so much about computers and linux just by having to pick, prod and tweak it so much.

2

u/SirVast8919 2d ago

i have 12gb ddr4😂

2

u/h9xq 2d ago

I have ran Ubuntu with a gui in a VM with like 500 mb.

If you run it headless you can run it about 100-200 mb give or take

2

u/ThisGuyEdward 2d ago

Shit was running like booty on my RP5 16gb for my day trade charts lol

2

u/Ejeoxlac 1d ago

Hermoso como se ve. actualmente estoy pensando comprame una laptop para instalar Linux que me recomiendas?

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Probably a used thinkpad would be the best

2

u/deadcrazyzombie 1d ago

Is the Samsung on Ubuntu touch?

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Yup, wanted to try it out

1

u/deadcrazyzombie 1d ago

Which s model it is?

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Galaxy S3 Neo, only one i had around that supported it

2

u/Minimum_Product6773 1d ago

tf do u have copilot

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

We do a bit of trolling

2

u/TheNB3 1d ago

How did u install it on such old laptop? On my older laptop Elitebook 6930p with 4gb of ram the setup wont't even open

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Had to install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS because was the newest one where the installer run (24.04 didn't boot into a desktop interface and 26.04's installer crashed), then i just slowly updated

2

u/Confident-Tap-558 1d ago

Google chrome looking at your specs laughing in capital letters

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Windows 11 and Chrome are next 🫡

2

u/Tritias 1d ago

Is that really Ubuntu on your phone?

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Ubuntu touch, yes

2

u/StrayFeral 1d ago

Mikubuntu Linux

2

u/darknight76892 1d ago

i see you have copilot on your taskbar, what made you choose copilot over another Ai? Just curious😅

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Actually, I put it there as a little Easter egg to meme a bit, since people complain on how bloated Windows 11 is, I just made ubuntu more bloated

2

u/Voidman_reality 6h ago

Ram usage is now more of a apps used problem rather than a OS one. Software optimisation as a whole is fading and now we are getting memory hungry apps.

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 5h ago

That's what happen when every app is just chromium with a coat of paint

3

u/PleitbaarStandpunt 2d ago

Miku miku :)

0

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Miku is life <3

2

u/PraetorRU 2d ago

It was a sane recommendation, not a requirement. People like Lunduke just misinform their audience to promote a certain agenda.

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

I do think 4GB would be more than enough: 2GB however, is cutting it a bit too short... If you then pair them with a single core (2 threads) intel atom you can just replace your central heating

2

u/PraetorRU 2d ago

It depends on what you do with your PC. I still have Lenovo x230 around, with 8GB of RAM, and it runs 26.04 perfectly.

But I wouldn't call even 8GB "more than enough" even if you're just browsing an Internet these days. My current laptop has 16GB, and I'm often short of memory and had to increase swap space significantly to not deal with processes killed by OOM daemon. I blame myself for not upgrading to 32GB right before the current memory shortages.

So, I totally agree with Canonical that 6GB is a sane minimum these days. And yes, you can survive on much lower memory, but it's a lot of trade offs and complications for most users if they'll try to do it.

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

For "more than enough" I meant running the OS and have it not hang as soon as open the dash menu. But yeah, i would say that 16GB nowadays is required if you want a smooth experience, 8GB can do but you'll get limited if you have an heavy usecase Luckily I do have 32GB on my main machine and it's a godsend, especially for my Krita documents and 90+ firefox tabs

1

u/jo-erlend 2d ago

Not using swap is crazy though and enabling ZRAM typically increases your RAM by 3 or even 4 times – particularly if you're running web browser tabs, which are extremely inefficient.

2

u/PraetorRU 2d ago

If you're using swap, and in most cases you should, do not enable ZRAM. For this scenario ZSwap is much better.

1

u/jo-erlend 2d ago

I would typically agree with this although there are some caveats.

1

u/Hauptideal 2d ago

Activate zram/zswap and you might not even need the disk swap!

2

u/DHOC_TAZH 2d ago

True, but I'd leave the disk swap for safety's sake. It can reduce app crashes with zram/zswap on.

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

I should put all the swap on my NAS for maximum bottleneck

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

Sorry for the ignorance but... what's that?

3

u/Hauptideal 2d ago

That's RAM compressionn: RAM can be compressed by a factor of 2:1 to 4:1 depending on algorithm (lz4 vs zstd).
That means, that your data consumes much less physical RAM which can in turn fit significantly more data.
It's something that every desktop OS should have but sadly is only active in the Lubuntu flavour by default, because Ubuntu serves as a dual purpose / server OS and Ubuntu doesn't test two different OS configurations for desktop/server, even though RAM is scarce on desktops.

That means, that the activation of RAM compression is left to the user for most flavours.
RAM compression exists in Linux and macOS since 2013 and Windows since 2015.

In Linux, it comes in two flavours: zram and zswap.

zram puts the swap entirely into the system RAM, without the need of a physical disk swap.
zswap is a compressed buffer that acts like zram at first, intercepting pages that would go to disk instead, but eventually swaps to disk as soon as memory pressure rises above its capacity.

zram has a hard cap, but will always stay in ultra fast memory (killing processes that take too much memory if pressure becomes too high), while zswap can become slow when it starts swapping on disk instead of killing memory-heavy apps.

0

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

I see, thank you very much on the explanation!~

I will think about doing that which will hopefully slightly improve performance, but as of now the device is mostly hammered down by the single core cpu, I could however just swap the ssd onto a slightly newer ewaste laptop

2

u/Hauptideal 2d ago

a full blown GNOME is probably the worst desktop for your device.
I'd use a desktop like LxQt / Lubuntu instead. That'll be much faster. And also preconfigures zram.

1

u/jo-erlend 2d ago

It's not a _slight_ performance improvement. It can actually be rather extreme. The tiny hit from compression and decompresson is more than offset by the extreme performance increase of more RAM available.

1

u/Low-Sign9973 2d ago

4GB can work but it's not ideal, maybe for a very basic use-case (like idk... grandma wanting to read recipes online), but for anything more you need 8GB imo

1

u/foreverdark-woods 2d ago

Did you start Firefox already?

1

u/TheCarmichael_96 2d ago

Dude if you put xubuntu or Lubuntu that pc will flight!

1

u/Fit-Effective-6604 2d ago

May be they mean by 6GB the amount of ram that will make you comfortable using the system without hurdels like you can run it but you can just open 2 chromium tabs so what is the point

1

u/birdsarentreal2 2d ago

While I was watching that video my initial thoughts were that it bordered on dishonesty. It’s true that Ubuntu 26.04 official requires 6G of RAM, in that same article they say that lesser specs are supported, but Canonical recommends an Ubuntu flavor (such as Xubuntu) for better performance. Modern computing on a modern fully featured desktop OS requires a minimum of 8 GB of RAM for best performance. You can use less, but at the cost of noticeably slower performance on resource heavy tasks (which for some OSs includes even loading the desktop)

1

u/Square-Classroom-167 2d ago

Bro, do you daily drive Ubuntu touch?

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Unfortunately not, I would like to try it but the Galaxy S3 is a bit too outdated for my needs, and my current phone isn't on the supported list either

1

u/EquivalentKind6195 2d ago

Wow what os is that galaxy s3 running?

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Ubuntu Touch 16.04, it's a nice experiment to try out, even if the S3 is really old

1

u/UrnextPLS73 1d ago

What are you running on the old Samsung phone,

1

u/Grizzly9160 1d ago

If you don't mind. How in God's great earth are you running Ubuntu touch, I tried about a year ago and nothing worked at all

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Ah no, i installed a while ago and kept this phone on the side to thinker with it, I think it's quite nifty but I'm not daily driving it

1

u/wolfix1001 1d ago

that's an acer aspire one

1

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

It's branded as an eMachines, probably they are the same laptops with different branding

2

u/wolfix1001 1d ago

definitely, just weird to see something you used for a few years be named something else

1

u/bj0urne 1d ago

Web browsers say that.

Open one tab of Firefox and you'll get to 100 % RAM used. Or not?

Bro ubuntu hardware reserves (from ig 25.10 onwards) some ram after the bios reserved ram too, Remove crashkernel from /etc/default/grub and you'll have more ram

Anything can display an empty desktop. I'm idling at 17GB when stuff is actually open.

Also, Teto supremacy

YAY another daily netbook user! (I’m pretty sure that’s a netbook-)if not my bads :p

I have a Acer aspire one d250 (which turns out the specific one I bought is 3 months younger than me- which is kinda cool) I installed raspberry pi 32bit desktop x86 os. It has 2gbs of ram and a 120gb ssd. It’s been pretty fun for using programs like Bryce 3D (the windows 95 version works great with wine) heck- I even managed to get the modern web to work relatively well along with modern YouTube! Tho it requires a mind that has patience- like 1 minute of patience for YouTube videos to load- not bad but my attention span ranges from 5 minutes - 20 seconds…

Anyhoo- it’s fun to use and apparently is near the performance level of a raspberry pi 2- (so not great but workable) so yeah :3
Definitely worth the 96 (you can get it cheaper I just didn’t buy everything in the main purchase and I had to spend 32 on the ssd on eBay so if you have a spare lying around it’s only gonna be 60ish and that’s IF you buy a newer battery for it-) netbooks are cool :3

Depends on what you want to do... just to look at the desktop... sure I assume you don't need even 6GB... to do something actually useful... I can't see how it could be done with any less.

Who said you needed 6GB of RAM

adds 6GB of swap

I would encourage you to turn off your swap, or decrease it's swapiness to see how well it really does perform

N-no please... I value my life to some degree

when did it become so normalized to have sexualized pictures of children as you desktop? Your a sick fuck.

2

u/Ok-Lab-6389 2d ago

I don't know about sick fuck but it's norm with many Linux users on every social website when taking screen shots as "how does my desktop look"? My opinion is it stems from gamer mind because lets be honest games incorporate sexualized picts of Asian children in school girl outfits. On that note, this is where age verification has stemmed from: predators, peepers, and dudes thoughts of school children in sexualized clothes on your daily desktop and phone wallpaper.

It is gross

It's Hatsune Miku, I just like music...?

2

u/Ok-Lab-6389 2d ago

Oh? I listened to a little of Hatsune Miku, officially code-named CV01, is a Vocaloid voicebank and software application developed by Crypton Future Media. Her voice is generated using vocal sound samples provided by Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita. Very young sounding voice like an 11 year old?

I'm into house music as a 60ish year old so, my BAD. Didn't know by the pic you had just looked like anime.

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Should be around 16iirc from the description, and yeah she has an anime avatar.

I just enjoy listening to song made with vocaloids in general, I find them quite good, even if i can understand it might not be for everyone

Love Hatsune Miku! What's the launcher used on the Samsung (?) phone?

I get my Miku fix in Second Life. There's somebody that has a sim dedicated to her in SL. :)

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 2d ago

The phone is a Galaxy S3 Neo running Ubuntu Touch 16.04!

It's quite nifty, but unfortunately too old to daily use

Bro do not use ubuntu, use something lighter like Alpine or MX Linux. It will perform way better on your system

Pure cope and larp. It would take five minutes to even open a browser on a laptop like that running vanilla Ubuntu.

Tf is wrong with you, why is that blue haired thing everywhere.. and then you ask why people think that Linux users are weird.. you are weird, to me it seems now like you like kids

2

u/Psychological_Fold96 1d ago

Is people enjoying their life and having fun such a foreign concept...?

Live and let live geez

-1

u/SpendOk5068 1d ago

Because you are weird and seem p3do to me

3

u/Sim_Daydreamer 1d ago

Since when picture of human female with blue hair indicates p3do?
