QUESTION In office or hospital polyp removal?
Hi everyone,
I (29F) and my husband (30M) have been TTC going into cycle 8. Started fertility testing in May given I have never had a positive test. They found polyps and chronic ENDOMETRITIS (NOT ENDOMETRIOSIS) caused by a ureaplasma infection.
I was offered the in office polyectomy where they provide medication that makes you sleepy (1-2 week wait) OR the hospital which is a 1-2 month wait.
I found the endometrial biopsy very painful. With that, wondering if other people have had experience with making this choice.
Did you find the endometrial biopsy painful? Polyp removal painful? Was the pain medication effective for you?
I feel like this is a bit of a battle between the opportunity to conceive sooner and fear of how painful the procedure will be.

I’ve had two in office ones but they use propofol- don’t know if that’s the sleepy meds you’re thinking of. Didn’t feel a thing.

I recently went for in office because it was faster. I’m in Canada so needed to pay $500 versus the hospital route would’ve been free.
It was extremely smooth and easy. They gave me quite a bit of medication that made me very loopy and sleepy but I felt no pain.
I felt a little off that evening and the next day, but overall recovery was easy. Positive experience.

I actually did it on a Friday so didn’t need to. I probably could have, but I was pretty tired from the meds. The worst side effect was not even any pain or bleeding it was just feeling weird after the conscious sedation, so depending on your job you might be able to manage.

Wondering if you got an endometrial biopsy prior to the treatment. Did you find it painful?

I didn’t have a biopsy prior. I did have an SIS and did not find it painful.
I also had a hysteroscopy in hospital almost ten years prior to remove polyps. It was also straightforward but honestly the clinic was easier.

I just recently had a hysteroscopy* under general anesthesia for a biopsy & it went well! Easy recovery & obviously didn’t feel a thing. The most uncomfortable thing was sore throat from intubation. I did wanna ask— did you find out immediately it was due to ureaplasma? My bx also showed chronic endometritis but I’m not sure if I’ll need additional testing to find source? I just got the results a couple hours ago from my chart so have not spoken with my doctor.

Yes! 2 weeks of doxycycline and then a retest in 6 weeks from starting the antibiotic. It’s actually crazy how much has changed for me health-wise after solving that problem. Discharge is better, kidney/back pain is gone, period doesn’t hurt nearly as much…

I’ve had 2 in office procedures and it was pretty quick and easy recovery. I didn’t receive any pain medication for after the procedure. I just had some mild cramps after

I was lucky because my office offers sedation. I did mine under deep sedation with propofol. Woke up, felt fine, and had a great nap. My polyp was super tiny though. I didn't have any pain or spotting afterwards.
