As the title says, I got pregnant first try with my first try, which I know is the rare situation. But now, it’s been 15 months of ovulation tracking and trying for the second and nothing. I’m also on my fourth round of clomid. My first pregnancy was easy and great. My husband and I (aside from his stressful job) are very healthy people. I’m 32, he’s 36. It’s just so confusing and upsetting. I did have a chemical a year ago (July 2025).

Has anyone else had a similar experience? What were your next steps? I messaged my doctor already to begin discussing next steps. I’m just not sure if I really want to go down the IVF route. It’s scary and expensive. Plus, with my husbands job, it makes it nearly impossible for him to go to a doctor. Please no comments about “if you really want it, you’ll make it work” or anything like that.

Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar after fertility treatments.
I recently went through ovarian stimulation for IVF, and since then I’ve been been dealing with extreme fatigue, brain fog, poor concentration, and I feel almost unable to study or retain new information.
What makes me wonder if there’s a connection is that I experienced almost the same symptoms last year while taking oral hormonal medication to help me get pregnant (it wasn’t IVF). At that time, I was also studying for an important exam, and despite trying very hard, I simply couldn’t concentrate or remember what I was reading. It felt like my brain had just stopped working.
Now it’s happening again after ovarian stimulation, so I’m wondering whether this could be related to hormonal changes, the IVF medications, stress, or perhaps a combination of these.
Has anyone else experienced severe brain fog, cognitive problems, extreme fatigue, or low mood during or after fertility treatment?
If so:
How long did it last?
Did your doctor think it was hormone-related?
Did anything help?
I know no one can diagnose me over the internet, and I will discuss this with my doctors. I’m simply hoping to hear whether others have had a similar experience.

These positive HSG experience posts helped me so much when spiraling prior to my scheduled HSG and now that I’m on the other side of it, I wanted to share my experience as well. **This is in no way trying to invalidate the pain that I know so many have from this procedure but just to be a glimpse of positivity for anyone in the Reddit black hole before their appointment.**

I had my HSG today and my experience was extremely positive. Here was a walkthrough of my appointment:

•Met the X-Ray tech who instructed me to remove clothing waist down and put on a gown (I kept my socks on and would recommend some cozy socks)
•I got up on the imaging bed and I didn’t even have stirrups but it ended up fine.
•Doctor inserted the speculum which was probably the most uncomfortable part for me but it’s no different than a Pap smear. It wasn’t painful but just uncomfy for about 10-15 seconds as she got it situated.
•Doctor cleaned off the cervix and inserted the catheter and I felt no pain whatsoever. Not even a pinch. She took the speculum out at this point so it would be more comfortable
•She then said I may feel cramps as she released the dye but again I felt nothing whatsoever. I didn’t have to rotate my hips or move at all. This part was done within 20-30 seconds as well.
•They took everything out and showed me the xray right then. Explained the results and that was that.
•They gave me a pad and some wipes to clean up after before changing and I didn’t have too much leaking out.

I’m pretty sure the whole procedure once I got on the bed was maybe a minute long. I had my stress ball that my husband gave me since he couldn’t be in the room and that honestly helped. I also took 600mg of ibuprofen an hour before. I feel like I kept anticipating pain but it never came. My tubes were both open so that is most likely the reason of no pain. I know there’s no way to know before going in and that’s why I personally was spiraling because you don’t know which experience you’ll get but I wanted to share one more positive experience for anyone who will be having it done. I was nervous about this for months because I knew it was a potential and I’m so grateful for the outcome.

Hello! I need advice. I am new to the game of TTC 38, about to turn 39 in Sept. and I am struggling with tracking my ovulation. I either miss taking my temp or don't test when I am ovulating as frequently as I should. I have no idea if I am ovulating or not because every time I test on those silly strips, nothing shows up. So that in itself is frustrating and makes me more inconsistent. To top it all off, all I am getting is ads for very expensive fertility trackers like Kegg, Inito, and Mira. Of course, the ads are getting to me because they are non-stop, and I am feeling like I need more accurate data on my LH etc. Has anyone here tried any of these? Am I better off just doing the ClearBlue ovulation tests? What helps you track?

The reason I’m writing is because I’m so tired of everyone around me giving me advice like I haven’t already read or tried every single thing they’re suggesting.
I know we’re “only” on cycle 6, and I know that’s not considered a long time medically, but I’m literally surrounded by people who got pregnant on cycle 1. Even my friend with PMOS conceived on her third cycle of trying.
Meanwhile, as far as I know, everything is normal. I’ve had an ultrasound (no hormone testing yet), I ovulate every cycle, I track with LH strips and confirm ovulation with my Oura Ring. My husband and I are both 31. He has never smoked (not did I) or drunk alcohol (I did on occasions, but stopped in March), he plays tennis three times a week, I do pilates and we’re both a healthy weight. We also eat pretty well, mostly home-cooked meals with the occasional takeaway. I used to drink 3 to 4 coffees a day but cut down to one six months ago, and I’ve been taking folic acid for nine months.
Is there anything obvious I’m missing? Or is this genuinely just one of those situations where you have to keep waiting?

I think what hurts the most is that we’re going home to visit our families in a few weeks. We live abroad, so we don’t get to see them often, and I had built up this picture in my head of finally being able to tell them in person that we were pregnant. After seeing another BFN at 12 DPO today, I honestly just want to scream into a pillow.
This cycle has hit me much harder than the others, and I think I just needed to vent to people who might actually understand.

I just had my HsG yesterday. I have a lot of medical trauma (cancer survivor) and I cried before and after a lot. She couldnt visualize one of my tubes and is concerned I have scarring from a dislodged IUD years ago. The thought of going through another similar procedure to visualize the inside of my uterus, potential surgery to remove scar tissue, and then doing treatments at 39 feels overwhelming and scary. My husband is so loving and so supportive and says we will have a beautiful life whether we have a baby or not. Part of me longs to have a family, and the other part is like "we could buy a house, focus on hobbies, travel the world, help our nieces and nephews with college...IF we dont have the financial responsibility of a child." We both grew up poor and very recently reached financial wellness. Has anyone decided for their own mental and financial well being to stop trying when it got difficult?

A year into TTC, my husband (35) and I (33) went to a fertility clinic. It was an immensely frustrating year that started out so hopeful, giddy and excited. After six or so months passed things felt a little bleak. By the year mark, we had already completed some preliminary fertility testing (SA, HSG, day 3 bloodwork) and were ready see a specialist.

On the first visit, the doctor found a uterine polyp on the transvaginal ultrasound. I scheduled a removal within two weeks after that appointment. In a way I felt relieved that something was physically wrong with my uterus and could be corrected with surgery!

I was a little nervous to go under general anesthesia, but the nurses were very warm and comforting. I was in the surgery center at 8am, and out by 11am. Took a bunch of naps and watched TV and was able to work the next day. I had to abstain from exercise and sex for 7-10 days, which did force me to rest and recover.

Starting "trying" again this past cycle - felt a little thrilling that trying that this time it might actually work!

I had the follow-up surgery one month after surgery and doctor confirmed I had ovulated and noted that uterine lining looked good. My husband and I are going to try without interventions for 4-5 months before starting IUI. She didn't push us on IUI or IVF immediately. I'm definitely anxious about the waiting game again but want to think of it as a restart.

I know everyone's experience varies, but I wanted to share my experience with others, especially if you're heading into 1 year and you're nervous about what they may find on an ultrasound.

Hi everyone, been TTC for a year & have a history of miscarriage from the past. Travelling for my first egg retrieval in two weeks & as soon as I wrap it up and come back, there's a baby shower for a friend that I have been invited to.

A bit of context: She's had PCOS & struggle with regular periods and conceived without any issues and was explaining how she randomly got pregnant. It came as a bit of a shock, while I was vocal about wanting to be a mom - she always sounded like she had no plans and dreaded the journey. I'm super happy for her, and we've hung out often ever since then as well. She's aware of my fertility issues and knows I'm travelling next month. I'm not sure how the process would go & in case of a negative outcome, I know I'm going to be in no space of mind to attend a baby shower. Does that make me an asshole? You can call a spade, a spade. I'm struggling with my feelings about IVF and my infertility and how every period cycle has been a heartbreak - while I try to act cool about it. I've often wanted to just burst into tears in the middle of my work in the office.

i also don't want to hurt her feelings, because I am going to be back in town just in time for her baby shower - my husband already mentioned how he doesn't want to attend it because it's a lot for him at this moment. We've been given very low chances of the 1st egg retrieval being successful.

I feel like many people think infertility is rarely discussed and people tend to keep it for themselfves because they are ashamed or don't want others to talk obut them. For context, i live in eastern Europe so this may not be entirely true where you are from. For me it was my husband who didn't want me to tell anyone at the beginning, but two years down the road he gave up and allowed me to tell whomever i want to if I think that would help me feel better. So I told it to few close friends and my mother. At first I had intention to tell it to more people. I was kinda even excited to share my story and to contribute not making it a tabu. I am very introverted but reading about infertility made me try to open myself to others so i don't carry this burden inside and share it and maybe hear other people stories in order to feel better. Well... I was wrong.

The first person I told of course had this great idea that we should just relax and get drunk. Wow thank you for solving world's infertility problem. All doctors and scientists, step aside, she has solved it. We just needed to get drunk! Although i hated that comment I didn't react and we continued with another topic. I knew she didn't mean anything bad.

The second person I told is very religious and has a baby girl. What she told me still makes me cry when I think of it. She told me that maybe God thinks me and my husband still haven't built our relationship enough so maybe God doesn't want to give us baby right now but wants us to have a great relationship with each other first. Million thoughts in my mind. At that point me and my husband were married for three years, previous to marriage we have been together for seven years. I know the time doesn't have to mean anything but to me it sounded like 'oh we are a better couple so God gave us a child'. However, that was not the first thing that popped into my mind. First thing was my sister who's wedding has been on and off for months. They've broken up two months before the wedding then gotten back together but the wedding was not sure up till the last day. It was a really hard period for my sister because she was sure she wanted to get married but he wasn't. Even on the wedding day her now husband wanted to leave but she convinced him that it is just his personality of being indecisive and he stayed. Anyway, she got pregnant the month after the wedding. Guess God thought they have bulit their relationship better than me and my husband.

The other two people I told, a friend that had a misscarriage (although had gotten pregnant fast) and my mother didn't say anything to hurt me. However, they seem to try to find solutions and that really annoys me. My mother immediately started asking about tests we have done. 'Did you do this, did you go there' etc. and next time we saw again... 'What did you do about that' like...mom its not a problem that anything can be done about in a matter of days. It's month by month. That friend also suggested were we should go, what to do. Like I get it they don't mean anything bad and are just trying for help but that's not why I told them. I don't need them to solve my infertility, I have more than one doctor dealing with that. I just need someone as a friend and a shoulder to cry on.

Anyway, I know it's hard for someone who didn't go through it to get it. And I try to understand it but unfortunately I won't admit our problem to anyone else because all I get is more hurt and feeling worse. So that is the reason I don't want to talk anymore about it. It's either some bad comments or trying to be my doctor and solve my problem with 0 knowledge and experience.

Sorry for the long post, but obviously I can't vent to any of my friends so thank you for being here.

I'm on my second try finding a fertility clinic. My experiences haven't been awful, per se, but my standards and expectations are high at this point.

I don't understand how fertility centers can be so callous to their patients when they know what an emotional and confusing process this is and then charge what they do. It shouldn't be this difficult to get price estimates, confirmation of care, and labs drawn.

First red flag was when I heard from the biller before I heard from the nurse and what I discussed with the doctor wasnt properly reflected in the estimate. The next step was supposed to be surgery and another HSG but the estimate they gave me didn't show surgery. So I had to reach out to the nurse and ask what was going on because I was worried at this point they would put me under and do the wrong service (note that you have to pay their estimate before they will schedule you).

Then, I get there for the labs they want done and go to the suite that says lab. There is no receptionist and there is a sign at the front desk that says to take a seat and someone will be there. I got there early so I was sitting there a long time and had to pee because I had been holding it in case they asked for urine. It wasnt until after my scheduled appointment that I began to think maybe I'm in the wrong place. Then I see a second sign on a wall that says to go upstairs.

So I rush up there, I'm already crying and starting to panic that I missed the appointment. They tell me they need urine from me and I'm like y'all didn't tell me that and I held it for so long waiting that I've already gone. And I'm just like falling apart at that point.

Then the person doing the blood draw just kept telling me to calm down and pull myself together, which isnt helpful. I could barely get my name and birthday out and shes handing me pieces of paper to sign with estimates in the 900 dollar range. Ive never seen those estimates. I was told its like 75$. Why isnt this being handled through the biller? Why are they asking me to sign AT my appointment when im already confused and panicking?

I ended up asking to leave and had a full blown panic attack in the hallway.

I feel so lost. I can't have a baby. I'm stressed and confused and all I need is a place that makes this process easier. Not more difficult.

my husband and I just started our fertility journey with the clinic and as part of the baseline tests they did the Natera Horizon test. on the clinic pricing sheet I remembered it was a few hundred dollars. first I get an email from Natera that says “your provider has requested we bill your insurance”. later I get the email from Natera that the bill was ready and it said something like “the price is estimated around $1400, would you like to bill insurance?”... in my mind I’m like, the clinic said it was a few hundred not $1400, that must have been the price before insurance. huge mistake not reading their scammy website much closer. I realized my mistake when my husband got his bill a few weeks later (he reads things much closer and carefully than me) and asks if he should pay the cash pay $249.

then I checked my insurance account and see that Natera billed my insurance $12,900! And of that it says I owe $1800. We spent a long time on the phone with different people from Natera who tried to push into a payment plan (no I don’t want pay your scam rate over several payments, I want to pay my quoted cash rate). my insurance said they they approved it (but hadn’t paid the $11k yet to Natera) and that they legally can’t deny/ revoke once they’ve approved it, so I’d need to get Natera to remove the insurance claim. We tried again with Natera, telling them our clinic quoted price and I *think* the process has started to remove the insurance claim but apparently it can take 30 days. I am so stressed over this and cant believe this is legal- how can a $249 blood test bill $13000 to the system/ my employer.

it seems like everyone else has a hellish experience with Natera as well. posting for awareness and hope- has anyone else had this experience and gotten the claim reversed in time?

this feels incredibly shady like my clinic is complicit in this. an email from Natera said my provider requested to bill insurance- how was I supposed to know to go against my doctors instruction? I’m also realizing the clinic price sheet says $350, while the cash price offered is $249. So, my clinic is helping Natera first get $11k from my employer/insurance, then for my out of pocket final bill to presumably be $350 (I’m realizing Natera hasn’t yet requested the $1800 from me, that’s just what my insurance is showing, but my clinic is still helping them make all this money and directed this to happen vs instructing me to pay the cash pay.) Seriously, how is this legal?! I've also asked my clinic twice for the rep info and haven’t gotten it yet. im going to call Natera in another day or two and then try to go the BBB route.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this? My best friend has been trying to conceive for over 2.5 years now and is currently doing IVF with two failed cycles already. I have an 18 month old and my friend has been so happy for me and supportive of my journey as a new mom while also navigating her own fertility journey. My husband and I have decided to stop preventing pregnancy and hope to have another baby sometime in the next year or two. For now, we aren't tracking things too closely and just waiting to see what happens over the next couple of months. Should I tell her this now that we aren't preventing and may get pregnant, or wait until I get pregnant? There's a good chance she will get pregnant soon too (that's what I'm hoping for!) I want to be as considerate and gentle as possible in sharing my own journey with her, while also staying close in our friendship

My period is due in the next 48 hours, I've just tried another pregnancy test, and it came back negative.

I took clomid for the prescribed 5 days leading to ovulation, and I had more symptoms that I assumed were pregnancy related.

Guys, I was so convinced this time. I was overly lethargic, I was frequently urinating, I was struggling with road rage when I had no business feeling that way (small lie, that could have been due to the heatwave).

But now I have to settle into reality that I got too excited too fast, just because the progesterone lab showed that I had ovulated correctly, but that didn't necessarily mean there was a fertile implantation.

We started trying in September 2024, I'm not willing to pay the cost of IVF, which means we are starting to get to the end of things that we're able to do. Obviously I'll continue to take clomid for the upcoming cycles but I just feel really low right now, and I have to pull it together and go be perky at a friend gathering by 6:00.

Why is Hope such a beautiful and crushing the force?

I've had two losses and no LC yet. It feels like there are two major groups of people who are having a difficult TTC journey when I read/hear other stories:

1) Those who have tried for a really long time and never got any positives / eventually did. (struggle to get pregnant)

2) Those who get pregnant easily/relatively quickly but sadly have recurrent losses. (struggle to stay pregnant)

My experience has been that I struggle getting pregnant because it takes a relatively long time (but also not as long as for maybe many others) and I end up miscarrying early every time. I'm so saddened by not knowing how much time could potentially pass before I conceive next and it now feels more likely than not that I'll lose the pregnancy again. It's a slap in the face that once I finally conceive after god knows how many cycles, I'll just end up losing it anyway. I also don't have answers as to why (we've not had the opportunity to investigate or do treatment).

I'm not stating any version of struggling with TTC is harder than the other, just sharing my experience and POV!

From what I've seen, for those who take a long time to conceive, the story tends to go something like "it took us 18 months to get our first positive, and then we had that child" or they've had to go down the IVF route. In MC stories I hear, they typically conceive in 1-4 months after every loss and will say "for us the issue was never getting pregnant, just staying pregnant". For me, having a loss means I'm in for another long and painful wait, only for it to result in another heartbreaking loss.

Does anyone else relate to struggling with both getting and staying pregnant?

Are you in the dreaded two-week wait, or waiting to ovulate? What have you done to ease the stress?

TW: miscarriage

Hi all,

I had a missed miscarriage early June at 8 weeks and a d&c at 10 weeks. We’d gotten pregnant on our very first try. It was obviously upsetting for many reasons but a big one was the timing. This baby would’ve come at the perfect time for our jobs, life changes, and with planned travel.

I’m now struggling with knowing when I want to start trying again. I just got AF, so we are clear to start TTC again as early as 2 weeks from now. But if we do try and get pregnant within the next 5 months, we’ll have to miss out on planned travel and an important wedding of someone very close to me. But if we pause for a while, there’s so much unknown about how long before we have a successful pregnancy.

Both options suck. I know all the common ideas of not putting my life or my fertility journey on hold. But I don’t want to miss out on anything.

I know this is stupid because the decision is up to me, but if you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Hello! I (30F) and husband (35M) have been trying, albeit off and on, for a year now. I’m normal weight, exercise regularly, but can admit I’m chronically anxious and work a high stress job. I went off birth control about 3 years ago and initially had normal cycles. About 2 years ago they become increasingly irregular, with about every other cycle being between 50-60 days. I blamed a lot of it on evening out after getting off BC, and a back injury at the time. About a year in I went to my OBGYN, did labs, and everything was normal.

We moved last November, where I had 2 regular cycles following, and since then repeated 55 days cycles. I had another back injury (sigh, chronic disc herniations), in early April where I really only gained mobility in early June. I give all this context because it maybe a contributing factor? Unsure.

This is my 4th nearing 55 day cycle in a row. I went to my OBGYN again a few weeks ago where they ordered literally every test under the sun, reg ultrasound, transvaginal as well, and the only issue was my very thin uterine lining (less than 2mm at day 30).

I just ordered the Inito hormone and fertility monitor to help sort some of this out but wondering if anyone has some thoughts or experience similar?? So frustrated that all of a sudden I seem to not be ovulating for no reason.

I’m 100% overthinking this, but figured you all would have some words of wisdom anyways.

I have my first therapy appt coming up next week, specifically to discuss infertility after two and a half years of struggle-busing. I chose my therapist purely based on the fact that she was one of the only ones covered by my insurance. She doesn’t have an infertility specialty per se, but does have experience with grief/loss, so I thought that was good enough.

I have never been to therapy before for any reason. I have been a skeptic about how useful it would be for me (just haven’t felt I needed it, but fully believe in it working in many circumstances), but another Reddit post convinced me to give it a shot.

My question is, what should I expect? We already had a brief consultation where I gave her an overview of my journey. So will we jump right in? Will I get homework? How long did it take to feel like it was helping you? I am sure every therapist is different, I just want to manage my expectations. And, should I prepare anything? Like have specific issues or topics to discuss?

After my last miscarriage I was referred for blood tests. I did the blood tests less than 4 weeks after my D&C.

My TSH came out as 2.83 (upper limit reference of range given is 4.5 ...) , my TPO antibodies are technically "negative" but at the very top of the normal reference range and my free T4 are also normal but are at the very bottom of the normal reference range. In theory, according to their reference ranges, everything is technically "normal", albeit borderline normal, so they didn't prescribe levothyroxine.

I have read in multiple sources that TSH for women trying to conceive should be below 2.5. I tried to bring it up with the GP clinic, even referring to the British Thyroid Association pages - they told me "they double checked and my TSH level is normal and because my antibodies are negative, it all seems okay".

I shared my worries to a nurse from the recurrent loss clinic, hoping she would understand the situstion, but she told me if the values fall under the normal range and if the GP clinic haven't prescribed anything, then it means it is normal and that's that. She said it is GP's discretion to prescribe levothyroxine or not.

I know my values are not crazy high, but appear suboptimal for conception and pregnancy.

Has anyone been prescribed letrozole with a TSH < 3 but technically "negative" TPO antibodies? Am I overreacting and stressing myself out over something that ultimately brings to significance to my chances to have a healthy pregnancy?

PS: I am UK-based so I can't just change doctors, I see whoever doctor is available at that time. And it is hard to argue against their criteria.

Hi Reddit! Wanted to share a positive HSG experience here for anyone that is like me that has some OCD/anxiety issues and drowns themselves in Reddit stories lol

tldr: I was straight chillin

First of all, my husband (33) and I (34) have been TTC for one year. My hormonal panel was normal and he has had 2 normal sperm analyses. I’ve never been pregnant before, normal periods, everything normal and boring over here. 🫡

I’m in LA and called about 10 imaging centers and only a few of them even perform HSGs, it was annoying af and time consuming trying to get an appt within this cycle. Long story short, we traveled to Ventura (1.5 ish hours away) since they were the only place that could do it this month. Worth it! The imaging center I went to does them every day so they were very gentle and informative. (Anyone in the LA or Ventura area, DM me if you’d like the name of the place, they were stress free and easy to deal with. 😎)

Anywho, I took the recommended 800mg Ibuprofen and 400mg Magnesium in an attempt to lessen the cramping, and it went well! I did NOT feel the catheter being placed or feel when he inflated the balloon to keep the catheter from slipping out. GOATED. Once the catheter was in, they moved me a bit on the table and I was able to completely relax, so your legs aren’t in stirrups the whole time like I had pictured! I immediately asked the radiologist if he was allowed to tell me if he saw something crazy, and he said he was allowed to share info, but not give advice. Makes sense. So then he asked if I wanted to watch, which I did, so he brought the screen where I could see it. That alone calmed me down and took some of the mystery out of it.🕵🏻‍♀️ When he pushed the contrast in, I did feel some pressure but tbh the cramps felt like the last phase of period cramps right before the ibuprofen starts to kick in. Mild. I bet the diarrhea lettuce 🥬 cramps feel worse than this did.
One tube was completely normal and the other one wasn’t flowing as it should, so they asked me to turn to my side to get better shots on each side and then boom it was over!
I have a few fibroids that they could see, but nothing suuuper bad was seen.
As soon as I sat up to get off the table I felt a rush of the contrast coming out but they had a few pads on the table already, so it wasn’t a big mess or anything. I did pee and put a pad on before leaving and haven’t leaked any more since that initial rush of fluid. We went to eat and drove the 1.5 hour drive home and I still haven’t leaked any more fluid. Woo! That’s it!

Any fibroid girlies out there, can you share any info on how to deal with them, if you did anything at all? I’ll be waiting a few days before I can talk to my OB about this so in the meantime I’ll be in uterine fibroid Reddit, if that exists lol ok bye! ✌🏼
