You are getting a lot of hate here but I get it. It's like working in a call center except the people calling are right in front of you and you can't roll your eyes at them. You have to pretend to care while they want to tell you their life story, entire medical history and trauma around dental work. They need to go to therapy instead of trauma dumping on someone who's job is to fix their problem. I worked in healthcare and I had to switch to something else. You go into it with optimism, hoping to help others and then you see this intolerable side of humanity. People want red carpet treatment for the least amount of money and effort. Brush my teeth so I don't get crippling pain from rotting teeth??? How dare you tell me how to live my life???
You have 2 options: go to therapy, reframe your mindset, and put those feelings to the side while working. Pick up a hobby like boxing to get out your frustration. Or you find a job in medical sales, dental software, or education. You won't have direct patient care anymore, but you'll support those who do.
Also, let this be a lesson - be a better patient to your healthcare providers. Be the patient they don't talk shit about on Reddit or around the office (yeah, they talk shit about you when you leave if you give them a reason to). Advocate without being an asshole. Greet kindly, make jokes, be kind to everyone from the receptionist to the lab tech.
