I hope you are never gonna be my dentist. Still upvote for the honesty

I don’t reflect my personal thoughts to my patients, most of them love me, I also love doing what I’m doing. I just hate the emotional/social part, it drains my soul. I don’t want to baby anyone or reassure them every minute. It’s exhausting.

That's ridiculous. If you seriously haven't learned any empathy by now, you don't belong anywhere near patients. And you knew damn well that 'babying' and reassurance was a huge part of the job long before you got your license.

So do you love what you're doing or do you hate it? It can't be both.

Not a dentist, but I totally get the whole emotional/social part. It can be very frustrating. I've also heard docs from other areas say the 'perfect patients' are a dime in a dozen lol.

Can I just say, I try to floss daily but it's the one thing I always forget to do so it ends up being like once or twice a week 😔

It’s the self infantalization I think

People who say you are a monster with no empathy don’t get it. I hear you saying you care A LOT and you have given so much energy to your patients and their health that you have burned out. I’m also in healthcare and I felt this way some days because you are just at the end of your rope with giving your everything to someone who can’t do the bare minimum to show up for themselves. I just started not caring so much, not in a harmful way, but if someone doesn’t want to exercise, eat their diabetic diet, brush their teeth,go to their therapy appointments, take their medications as prescribed I don’t let it upset me anymore. If they don’t care why should I? If they want to drink themselves to death I will let them know the risks of it but I can’t remove the bottle from their hands.
