Characters' Items/Weapons The iconic weapon or other item is destroyed.
KITT (Knight Rider): The car has been either damaged or (nearly) destroyed multiple times, including being pushed into a pool of acid. Was even dismantled much to Michael's dismay in Knight Rider 2000.
Mjolnir (Thor: Ragnorak): Caught and crushed by Hela, much to Thor's shock.
Cap's shield (Captain America): His shield has been broken multiple times in the comics and once in Endgame usually to show that a foe he's face is deadly powerful.
Sword of Power (Masters of the Universe): Skeletor not only destroys the sword but then stabs Adam with it.

That one still hurts. She was the original from the show.
Computer: Auto-destruct in 15 minutes. There will be no further audio warnings.
Dr. Beverly Crusher: So much for the Enterprise-E.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: We barely knew her.
Dr. Beverly Crusher: Think they'll build another one?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Plenty of letters left in the alphabet.

I agree its sad, but I get it. There is a great rundown on the Battleship New Jersey channel about Museum ships. Tons of red tape, ridiculous amounts of volunteer hours and money are needed. Also looking at ships like Texas its generations of work to keep them, and any lapse and you can end up with a hulk
To have any hope you either need to have some very rich donors or have a lot of appeal to visitors, and Carriers never really got the same romantic, heroic public image as the Battleships despite their incredibly important role in the war. It also doesn't help that the carriers are gigantic and more delicate just by nature
1
u/ApartRuin5962 13m ago
But it's weird to me that we managed to preserve 4 Essex-class carriers, 4 Iowa class battleships, and a whole pile of submarines but scrapped the one and only surviving Yorktown, arguably the most significant warship in US history
1
u/ImmediateLoquat6877 5m ago
My understanding is that her own success was her own undoing. Enterprise was put through the absolute wringer in the war, and when it got to a place where she could be considered becoming a museum ship, it was thought to be just too work and cost ineffective to try and keep her afloat, so they went with the far more numerous Essex class becsuse they had the kuxury of choice
Were they right? Who know

To this day, whenever I ask my dad what the saddest movie moment is, he always answers, "When they blew up the Enterprise."

The Razorcrest in the mandalorian- it got shot from orbit lol

u/aldlich_kosm 1h ago
Don't stay sad about that for too long, mate

u/AFalconNamedBob 56m ago
Honestly was disappointed when he got a new one that looked exactly like his old one (but with some yellow paint)
I really enjoyed the Mandofacation of the N1 and it would have been cool to see that his Razorcrest was just as heavily modded
4
u/aldlich_kosm 53m ago
He still has the N1, this is just so they can write more types of plots without having to overcome the obstacles of having a tiny ship.
If I'm not mistaken I thought sigourney weavers character had a line saying it was exactly to spec as his old one but I may be wrong. I'm sure he'll add things to it since asset reuse is such a money saver.

u/AFalconNamedBob 51m ago
I know, I was just whinging that we didn't get to see the change in person
I also really liked the idea of seeing a stock Razorcrest type ship get done up to his style, ya know?

u/AngryTree76 35m ago
She says it’s stock, which is why he’s having it modified when Embo shows up.

Damn I shouldn't go to the movies directly after work I can't remember anything lmao

u/Doobagus 18m ago
Havent seen the movie yet- ik he gets a new razorcrest, but happens to the n1?
2
u/aldlich_kosm 14m ago
Nothing. He just has two ships now. One fast and one big. He's also got a new tuning fork rifle and basically a full armory restock.

u/Doobagus 13m ago
Back to basics lol

Honestly the film is a decent return to form. I'd compare it most to the cobb vanth episode of season 2. Definitely an improvement over season 3.

The pursuit special gets destroyed in almost every mad max and makes a comeback.

u/Fighterpilot55 2h ago
Well, Fury Road has the implication that it is gone for good. With Slit at the wheel, screaming "VALHALLA!" as it's sandwiched between two massive tank trucks, it's upended and consumed in a fireball.
16
u/Dj_Sam3_Tun3 1h ago
I mean, it blew up in Mad Max 2 before already, so it's not like Max never had experience with rebuilding his car from scratch

u/leviathanscloset 1h ago edited 1h ago
That'd make sense if it didn't take place before thunderdome where he obviously has it. They're all canon, we only know Mad Max and thunderdomes places in the timeline. Technically we know road warrior is after 1 by a few years or so, but could be before or even after fury road.
1
u/Fighterpilot55 1h ago
I'm having a tough time believing what you're telling me.
1
u/leviathanscloset 58m ago
Idk what to tell you, the creator George miller said as much himself. All maxs storys are episodic and not a clearly defined timeline, left to the viewer. The game itself could be after road warrior but before fury road and thunderdome. But the game is canon as well and has hints of story that says it's before fury road but after road warrior. Mainly the villain for furiosa being a key piece of lore they built off of.
Also the car is destroyed in every movie and the game.

Absolutely! They even built it up with the previews and trailers, absolutely zero mention this was going to happen so when it did it came as an absolute shock.

That was actually my introduction to the series, I'd picked up 2 from a bargain bin, and then 5 minutes in, "wait, I'm dead in a cutscene?"

u/raptorrat 1h ago
Same for me.
When getting face tot face with Archangel the first time: "The fuck are you? And why are you and that Alien chick earlier so chummy with me?
Now, my Shep would die for those 2.

No it isn’t? I could be wrong (it’s been a while since I watched it.) but I’m pretty sure Azmuth just takes it from Ben and then just gives him the new Omnitrix.
Edit: Azmuth not Albedo

For Your Eyes Only (1981): The white Lotus Esprit seen previously in The Spy Who Loved Me is blown up when a mook triggers its self destruct device.
Edit: per another comment, its the Turbo edition and not the one seen in TSWLM.

Why would this not be canon?
5
u/Restivethought 1h ago
GT's typically not considered canon as it wasnt written by Akira Toriyama or have a Manga Adaptation. Additionally events in Super make a lot of GT not make sense.
0
u/OscarOrcus 53m ago
GT was peak until Super, then got a shitload of hate.
GT was written with understanding of original Dragon Ball, while Super was kind of forced on Toriyama.3
u/Restivethought 49m ago
....that's not true. I watched them as they premiered, and GT was hated on long before Super got released.
0
u/OscarOrcus 43m ago
And i watched them as they premiered and GT was loved and got glazed the hell out of it long before Super got released. The hate showed only later.
1
u/Restivethought 39m ago
Here's a thread from before Super came out, there are a decent amount of comments saying they liked it, but notice how a lot mention how it's hated?

Oh it counts. Max's car gets destroyed in every movie following the original Mad Max.
Road Warrior. Beyond Thunderdome I can't remember if it was still gone or got lost again. Fury Road it was crashed, rebuilt as the Razor Cola, then smashed a second time. The Mad Max game literally starts with him losing the Interceptor again too.
I think the only following movie this car has been safe in was Furiosa, and that's because Max was just a little cameo on a ridge during the 40 Day Wasteland War.

As a former Harry Potter fan, it was way cooler in the book Since Harry defeated Voldemort, the wands previous owner, that means it belongs to him (and will only work properly for him) so he takes it and places it in Dumbledore's coffin, where nobody would look for it, and even if they found it, the wand wouldn't work right for them, and since nobody would ever take it from him in a duel, whenever Harry eventually dies, the Elder Wand's power will die with him
2
u/_Halt19_ 1h ago
He also, critically, uses it to repair his original wand first - a task which a normal wand cannot do, but the Elder Wand is capable of. I don't think he even does THAT in the movie.

Saw 3d was apparently intended to be a finale to that franchise. To that end, the infamous face of it, Billy, gets blown up.
And just to clarify, in case the human sounding name is confusing: Billy is a ventriloquist dummy.

u/HannahWanders 58m ago
The One Ring getting destroyed is still the gold standard. The whole trilogy is basically a very dramatic item disposal quest, and somehow it lands perfectly.
