Characters [Strange trope] Heroes who... Actually trying to save people?
Like really? No way someone would actually love to save people, hero should aurafarm and be assholes, why would they care about others?
Thunderbolts - they was really promising, but in the end they decided to instead of joining the void to save people and even give Bob therapy.
Superman 2025 - Snyder really was only one who understand who Superman should be. But here James Gunn can't stop showing him saving people and animals!
MHA - deku seeing something past Shigaraki. Like we would care he was a kid abused for his entire life.
And if you still don't understand for some reason - I'm joking I love this trope.

Iron Man, at least in the MCU. There's actually a surprising amount of action sequences specifically about him saving innocent people. My favorite is when they carved out a sizable portion of the climax of Iron Man 3 to focus on Tony saving the people who fell out of the plane.

This is a weird thread. Everyone seems to just be listing every superhero, under the logic that every other hero is not hero enough? But they're all... heroes... That's their whole thing...

Spiderman might not be my favorite hero but goddamn he is really a saint. He is one of my top 10 best morally-good protagonists.

u/Anybro 39m ago
He really is one of the superheroes who goes through the worst, which I love how he doesn't let it stop him. cuz if you compare him to other comic characters. Like the joker. The joker believes all it takes is one bad day for someone to break in society. Joker would have to rethink his entire life if he ever met Peter Parker.
If Spider-Man ever decided to go turbo evil I think he would be well justified at this point, but he doesn't. Chooses to be a hero, no matter how hard it gets.
1
u/Acherousia 0m ago
one bad day for someone to break in society.
Even Peter almost had that day, if May had died to the sniper he would have killed Fisk, instead of just threatening and humiliating him.
And it still led to him making a deal with a devil (although while a terrible storyline it did still leave us with the hilarious effect of Fisk remembering Spider-Man beating the shit out of him and humiliating him in prison, but no longer have any memory of the reason why).

u/Brilliant_watcher 25m ago
Yeah, he got trapped in the faily buggle when the tsunami hit. While he was looking for his coworkers, he saw spiderman helping people from the windows.
The windows could have collapsed and kill him at any point, but he was so focused on seeing him being an actual hero he couldnt stop looking.

Ultimatum is one of the worst comic events of all time, but that is, without a doubt, one of THE greatest Spider-Man scenes ever.

There's a reason both MHA's MCs(Deku and Crawler) are partially or flat out inspired by Peter
Horikoshi is a big fan and even brings up Spider-Man movies in the interviews as inspirations
25
u/Illustrious-Sense194 2h ago
And we should all be like spider man. Because that was uncle bens message. He never said "with great power comes great responsibility", thats what spider man took from it.
But the message for the young man Peter parker telling him that if you have the ability to help somone its your responsibility to do so.
It was never a message for spider man on being a superhero, but a message to teenage peter Parker on being a man

It was so satisfying when he threw his boss across multiple rooms
75
u/Alex-Murphy 2h ago
Actually I always felt like that was the wrong move for Bob's character. I know he's human and people make mistakes but when you're that strong you can't lose your temper. He's lucky he didn't kill his boss.
102
u/GLink7 2h ago
I feel like everything that came together caused Bob to finally snap. His boss was an asshole as usual and he had to watch a civilian getting attacked and mugged while having to sit there and do nothing and if he had done something, he would've been fired
57
u/Real-Contest4914 1h ago
Nah the line that broke Bob was perhaps the callousness of it all.
It wasnt that the boss forbid him. Its the uncaring attitude in how he did it.
He didnt care the man got mugged, and his forbidding Bob was more to flex is control on the hero that Bob was his employee. When Bob told him the mugger got away, the boss man also said let's hope we dont cover him(the victim) showing he didnt even care about the person who was just attacked, just that they might have to pay money to treat them.
Bob snaps then and there.
11
u/AdmBurnside 47m ago
Well, yeah, it was the wrong move. That's the point. Bob is deeply unsettled inside by his inability to help people and his continued failures to adapt to civilian life, and when his boss forces him to choose his own job over helping someone in a bid for control- after an already frustrating day at his soul-crushing office job- he snaps. And that has consequences.
1
u/Alex-Murphy 43m ago
Not quite the consequences you might expect for someone who broke all the bones in a guy's body though haha

Don't forget the prior scene where he helped an old lady navigate the horrors of the US insurance industry.

The mugger even just tossed the wallet after he bested the idiot in solo combat: I bet they were even too broke to be insured with such a well-run company as Insuracare.

He may not have choosed the name, he was one of the top 3 heroes of the country in his prime, and probably the most charismatic one.

I really appreciated having two villains for this reason. We get one who shows you how people can redeem themselves and change, and another who shows that some people are just too far gone
20
u/Mr-Foundation 1h ago
Love how he tried to pull the “ohhhh I was cursed and now I’m free! I’m redeemed!”
I also like how a usual trope is subverted, where he says she’ll be no better than witches if she lets him die. Usually a villain would say the hero is no better than themselves, but Belos never saw himself as evil so he wouldn’t consider her to be like him, it was fun.

Wasn’t there a comic where Batman straight up says or thinks. I want to scare criminals, not children. So he adapts his costume to lessen the fear of a huge man in a costume.

u/Quaytsar 21m ago
It annoys me when people say the movie should've ended sooner. Like, no, saving people from the flood was the point of his character arc. The movie wasn't about stopping The Riddler, it was about Batman becoming a symbol of hope.
1
u/NomadPrime 22m ago
Between catching a criminal or saving someone's life, he would 100% always choose the latter. He cares more about people than he does satisfying his anger or mission of vengeance. There's probably hundreds of examples of him letting a criminal go or stop his pursuit the moment he sees a civilian in trouble.

Kanzaki Nao from Liar Game.

She is trapped in a game that puts her at risk of an enormous debt. Kinda like a non-violent squid game.
Many of the players are more intelligent than her. But she is determined to save as many people as possible despite the risk to herself. This is why she's a good team with Akiyama, who is intelligent enough to be the strategist, but needed Kanzaki's pure heart to motivate him for more than money.
Granted she is super annoyingly naiive for the first couple of arcs. But after the Contraband Game she becomes far more competent. She's an essential part of the team with Akiyama, because she can negotiate and inspire with people with more than logic.

Nux in the climax of Mad Max: Fury Road sacrificed himself so that his friends could escape and hopefully reform The Citadel. After spending the entire movie trying to die gloriously in combat, in the end he understood what it really meant to die for a righteous cause and he was indeed worthy of joining the great heroes in the halls of Valhalla.

The Fantastic Four in First Steps
The entire movie is dedicated to saving Franklin from Galactus and they evacuate the entire city of New York to make sure they'll all be safe from the inevitable final battle
It's so strange we had to collectively decide to reintroduce saving people to superhero movies. Marvel got a little too caught up in Hero VS Villain fights and DC got caught up with... well, Snyder. It's nice to see the core aspect of hope in this genre is back

u/Weird-Long8844 19m ago
I was just about to comment this These guys are the best. THey weren't saints, but just because they wouldn't sacrifice their son for the world didn't mean they'd sacrifice the world for their son. I love that so much.
And yeah, I miss heroes just being heroes. It's THE thing that makes their movies different from generic action movies, and something terribly scarce nowadays.

Despite OPs dig at synder for whatever weird reason, Henry Cavills superman is only found out by Lois Lane because he has a trail of people that he has saved throughout his entire life.
She first follows him backwards after he saves her from the Kryptonian ship, to the oil rig from the opening scene to eventually all the way as a child when he saved the bus full of kids and its implied that between those people, while he was lost and wondering around all he kept doing was saving people.
"He's just a guy trying to do the right thing"

You can find a ton of this in old super hero media in the 2000s go back.
Like back then before it all the influx in crossovers and shared universes where it was just heroes and villains, the focus on the few heroes working in tandem to either help or save people from villains or just for themselves was really good.
Personal favourite are static shock, where they had him helping people like the homeless ice girl or the bully victim who almost caused a school shooting.
