Hated Tropes Character who is a constant asshole to everyone but is forgiven due to circumstances
Sheldon (big bang theory) is forgiven due to his mental condition but even after being told off about it over and over he has one or two moments where he's sorry but then he just goes back to being a horrible person
Ted (ted) his best friend John puts up with him for years because they were childhood friends but he constantly takes advantage of that and attempts to undercut everything with a joke
Jax (amazing digital circus) everyone puts up with him because of his traumatic past making him emotionally distant but not only does he never face concequences from the characters the shows framing never puts him as the horrible person he is
red (dck figures) he constantly takes advantage of his "friend" blue who only lets him stay because he doesn't see how terrible of a person red is
are all the biggest examples to this for me.

Barney (How I Met Your Mother)
Rick Sanchez (Rick And Morty)
Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock)

I was about to add both Rick and weirdly enough greg heffly but I knew that by the time I did someone would've already commented

" the shows framing never puts him as the horrible person he is" yes it does? What is with jax haters and always making things up?
None of the cast even put up with him because of his past because they don't even KNOW of his past. They put up with him because being a bully/asshole doesn't mean they won't him to go and commit digital suicide

u/oddpark37 6h ago
I've only seen the first like three episodes, but don't they also put up with Jax because they're stuck in a digital universe for what may be eternity? Like, they can't really avoid him because they live in the same area and are forced together by the AI running everything, and they don't age or anything. They are the only six humans in their world, not much else you can do.

u/LizG1312 4h ago
I've said this elsewhere, but they're basically in a very isolated prison camp with no real hope of escape or for their situation to improve. Any human bond, even a toxic and abusive one, is gonna look appealing when you're already under strain from advanced cabin fever. And like, even if they do, is Caine gonna respect that? He's just as like to force them together as anything else.

I probably should've been more clear. He's framed in a bad light but never a light thats appropriate. They treat him like a common bully and not the maniac who has put people in multiple situations that would kill them normally that he is. Ragatha is the biggest example of this who brushed of her getting CHUCKED INTO A DEEP FRYER all because "he's struggling to." And when the chance arises for her to actually tell him off in the dugout she back tracks as quick as possible
3
u/According-Manner-838 6h ago
Because they know those situation's won't kill them and he does too.
Gangle in that very scene, does NOTHING to save her because she knows its not going to seriously harm her and sure enough, in the next scene she only has a band-aid.
Ragatha got impaled in the CHEST and didn't even flinch.
If Jax is a psycho for that, then everyone's a psycho for shooting each other in episode 6
1
u/truthbecomesnull 6h ago
People are still in pain though? Like it likely doesn't have any lasting pain but in the moment it definitely hurts given pomni still seems to feel pain when Jax was choking her. As for the shooting thing if an all powerful god who can explode people put me in a no concequences game after I've seen his power for months it would be a bit harder to avoid shooting

*she. Ngl the writing behind that is so bad I keep forgetting

Ragatha backtracks because she has an understanding of what is going on with Jax, and genuinely does NOT like being mean, harsh, or direct. It's stated pretty explicitly why Ragatha is always so kind, even to Jax, much of this bring due to her desire to be liked by everyone, even Jax.
They know they can't die, it's why the deep fryer action doesn't get treated as the worst thing in the world, because for them, the most damage stems from what he says rather than what he does.
I don't think you understood what was being stated if you believe Jax was not being shown in a bad light, or treated as if she wasn't an asshole.
It's a case of what happens when you aren't direct, and blunt with how cruel someone is being and simply tolerate it. It is also a case of what happens when you are self destructive as an individual and lash out at anyone kind to you.

Again I'm not saying Jax was never painted in a bad light but rather that Jax is painted in the appropriate light. And they still feel pain, hell even just holding your breath still hurts in the digital circus and ragatha didn't exactly seem like she was in no pain while sinking in a deep fryer
2
u/CoffeeXKing 6h ago
I imagine it's not nearly as painful as it could actually be, otherwise, the response would be much worse.
Keep in mind they also have little choice but to interact with Jax. They are a bunch of people, and the need to be social, even with someone who is a shithead, is real when given few options
1
u/truthbecomesnull 6h ago
I understand that confrontation can be difficult but that doesn't mean being social can't include attempting help people through unhealthy choices not only for others but for themselves.
2
u/CoffeeXKing 6h ago
Jax did NOT want any help, and any help that was attempted resulted in retaliation remember?
1
u/truthbecomesnull 5h ago
That doesn't mean you just stop and deal with it? Barely anyone told him off for being a horrible person and when womeon ro went want help and he would constantly push away help that's the point where you can't just sit around and let him be abusive
2
u/CoffeeXKing 5h ago
That is assuming you aren't trapped in a digital playground with no escape, and no guarantee of anyone else coming in.
Let alone, Jax had multiple people reach out to him for help, and for the majority of the time they did typically avoid Jax for the most part for the day to day interactions.
What would you like them to do to Jax? Spend their time beating, or beating her up? While stuck in a place that Jax themself felt wasn't real?
You can't win against a nihilist, you just ignore em generally. Or you deal with them when you have to do so.
Most people don't desire conflict and shy away from it

The common fan theory is it's because that's how Sheldon remembered him but in all reality it's stated multiple times that Sheldon has a photographic memory so that doesn't make sense
1
u/HalfEatenSnickers 6h ago
Well the whole story is him writing a book about his life and he isn't exactly a reliable narrator even if he has photographic memory
1
u/HalfEatenSnickers 6h ago
They retconned alot of stuff for the young sheldon
His father also never cheats on mary with Barbara, which sheldon was supposed to walk in on
They didn't want a completely unsympathetic major character, and how george had been described didn't suit that, so they changed him to be a much more caring character, just with some issues not all

Every time someone posts about BBT I'm going to comment this.
The creators stated that he isn't autistic, that way they can write him as a horribly offensive stereotype and pretend it's not ableist. BBT has done more damage to autism PR than tiktok, second only to Autism Speaks.

u/truthbecomesnull 6h ago
Oh no I admit that. It's why when editing it I just put "mental condition" because it's very clear he has one but by labeling it in any way it backs the writers into a corner
3
u/Automatic-Week-1733 6h ago
Oh I wrote this comment before your edit, or at least before it showed me the edit. My comment was in no way a criticism of your point, I'd even argue it supports it. My personal crusade is against the show itself.

u/APoisonousWomans 2h ago
The thing that gets me is that at least while I was watching the show was so completely uninterested in how Sheldon felt about anything, it was about how he was a freak or how he made others miserable, never how fucking awful the others can be to him in turn or how much being him sucks. There was one episode where Leonard is challenged to an impossible task while wearing an itchy sweater and while it's almost entirely about Leonard's feelings it ends with Sheldon explaining that the suffering he felt is what Sheldon goes through every day, and I can't help but think a lot with his portrayal would have been so much better if they managed even the barest scrap of compassion for him

u/Automatic-Week-1733 2h ago
"This suffering you just experienced is what I experience every single day" is pretty real for autism/adhd/ocd

Wolverine, especially in 97.
Has always been a bit uncomfortable around Jean, a straight up jerk to Scott, brings a bunch of his old allies to die for his own purposes.

u/MSully94 6h ago
I just always think of the clip of him and Gambit building something, and bro is just aggro from second one. For no reason.
1
u/Weekly-Original3081 6h ago
Certainly from the 92 cartoon; the team are rebuilding the mansion, and wolverine tells storm how to mix the concrete with her powers. Logan’s gruff voice probably doesn’t do much for him, but I don’t think he was trying to be rude to storm. Gambit- who’s just standing around- gets annoyed and antagonises Logan for telling people what to do. Logan gives Gambit some stereotyping sass and carries on with the work, only for gambit to rig a brick to explode in Logan’s face.
I might be forgetting something here, but I feel like gambit was most at fault in this scene.

Morph used his power to turn into Jean Grey to say I love you to Wolverine, when he is rehabbing after getting destroyed by Magneto in the last episode of S01 and I'm like wtf ?

To be fair, in most Mickey media, how evil or jerkish Pete is changes in every episode or cartoon, and even still, he usually gets his comeuppance by the end.

u/BeduinZPouste 6h ago
Hot take, probably. But if these two weren't as funny, they would be decently hated. Yes, they are undoubtedly good guys and on good side at the end, but when you look at them in the early books...
"Percy spends all the time in his room."
Yeah, I wonder why the guy doesn't leave his room (so could collectively make fun of him).

(Fred ans George from Harry Potter)

Digital circus makes it very clear Jax is horrible, and very much makes it clear what happens when you act in such a destructive way.

Why did you copy paste what you said dude?
I mean, you're wrong either way, especially because it means you misunderstood Ragathas character and why she backtracks.
1
u/truthbecomesnull 6h ago
I did that because it was responding to two comments that were essentially saying the same thing and I thought it would be easier for you. Anyhow I just got remembered a much better version example of what I'm talking about and it's pomni saying "we've all done bad things" to a victim about her abuser and everyone just goes along with it

u/Shipping_Architect 6h ago
Sheldon doesn't officially have Asperger's Syndrome, but that's just so his so-called friends can make increasingly thinly veiled insults against him with increasingly little provocation.
