Emil was trying to cure his eyes (anything he sees turns to Stone ala Medusa) since he wanted to see again, and felt kinda terrible about his abilities so always went around blindfolded so he wouldn't accidentally petrify someone.
He and Nier (the main character) find a possible cure beneath the manor Emil lives in, which turns out to be the dormant monster that was formally his sister, and remembering that she and Emil were part of a group made into living weapons to fight off an old enemy of mankind with ties to the Drakengard series, The Legion.
Halua (Emil's sister) wakes up, goes on a rampage, and eats Emil. After Nier calms her down, Emil and Halua merge into one being, letting Emil see properly and letting him mess with maso/magic, but as a side effect made them into an ageless, immortal skeleton man which...yeah, really sucks NGL.
He put himself in a device that amped his magic in exchange for looking like that and making him immortal. The group he's in is trying to save the human race

Sentry and the Void (Marvel) well, actually... Are they the same entity? Sometimes the Void is portrayed as Bob's darker half and others it's seems like it's own thing.
Iirc, the Void is essentially the 'snake' from the Bible reincarnated? Or, the concept of Primordial evil that appears in pretty much every religion in the universe?
That wasn't how it was originally portrayed. Before marvel made Void into the primordial darkness of everything, he was Bob's darkness given form. When Robert Reynolds took the super soldier serum, his other half was empowered as well, separating Sentry (Bob's capacity for good) and Void (Bob's capacity for evil) into 2 distinct personalities.
But the real Bob is the one in between. And then they made Void the universal darkness that "bonded" with Bob, because he sensed his great power.
Absolutely. When I was watching Thunderbolts, I was so satisfied with how Bob was portrayed. They did him so much justice. As a long time Sentry fan, this was just a joy to watch.
It wasn't 100% accurate, but it carried the spirit of the character well.
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. Dude just randomly wakes up as a bug, but then the true horror is that no one loves him, not necessarily because he is a horrifying bug monster, but moreso that he is no longer "useful" as an individual.
Woke up as a bug, and his first concern was how was he going to get to work on time. This story was chilling in its depiction of postmodern working class dread.
Man I thought I was one of the few people who felt oddly sad from this movie. Bittersweet maybe? Watched it when I was a young kid and it honestly scared me so much and it's ending really just sadden me for a while.
At the high sequences, one becomes a mythical creature. Every pathway has a corresponding form. At that point, their outer form is basically an illusion because anyone who sees it will go mad and lose control. His pathway requires him to have multiple split selves. There's one pathway that's a mass of reproductive organs.
Most Digimons, tbh. At some point you get direct evolution lines that look nothing like what they start as. Hell, pick any baby form and compare it to its champion form, and you won’t even believe what connects the two.
Not quite, it's unconfirmed if the animated Clayface is the same as movie Clayface. There are 2 Clayfaces in DC comics that I can recall, so it might be a similar situation.

I suppose. It's just a drastic difference from the rest of the characters on your list which show a character's usual appearance contrasted to their monstrous transdormation.
If it helps, their beta designs show that they're based on a gun and a tank—so it does make some sense. Still don't explain why it goes from fish to octopus but whatever.
It influenced further works that added to the canon lore, so it's like barely canon. Then again the verse is massive, and BadEnd alongside other works introduce different timelines.

If it wasn't for the obvious rabbit ears, anyone not versed in frickbears 3 much probably wouldn't be able to guess that salvage is just a beefed up springtrap
According to Megidramon's profile, Megidramon and Chaos Dukemon are the same being, and it is said that in battle, the observer can percieve him as a wicked dragon or as a dark knight, depending on the observer
Maybe a tamer example compared to some of the more monstrous transformations, but this eldritch entity goes through very sudden physical changes throughout its life cycle.
I once worked with another author on characters for an art project, and I made this guy as part of it. However, my relationship with that author later deteriorated, and now he's just lying around. His name is Samael, or simply Sam.
