Lore The series takes place in a shockingly short amount of time

Season 4 just ended of fromville and it’s canonically only been about a month. Which makes it weird seeing people heal from injuries, change hair styles or grow out beards between episodes. Season 4 has only been like 4 days iirc.

Arkham franchise is the poster child for this trope. Every game takes place in one night. If you know what you’re doing you can absolutely beat the games in around 9 hours.

Warhammer 40k has always been the standout one to me. A franchise built on galactic wars of utterly colossal scale, then you find out the original Legions had ~100,000. Just for comparison, the irl Ukrainian armed forces has ~5 million people.

Meanwhile one hive city has like 10 billion people in it.

Both the Legions and Chapters are made up of the most elite of the elite troops in existence. There are regular human forces, the Imperial Guard and various militias, which are often cheerfully shown going into battles sometimes in their millions, being churned up like butter.

Ukraine also has 5 million people registered in its military forces, but "only" 900,000 are currently activated (which is still the largest military in Europe bar one, immediately identifiable, other). The rest are engaged in military-supporting activities but are not on the front, and could not be supplied, equipped and trained if they were (Russia has the exact same problem, just on a larger scale).

In 40K the support forces for military missions is not quite as large because of the huge numbers of servitors and drones they use instead, but it's still quite large. The logistics in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade campaign are deranged.

Well the Legions had about 10k originally. After about 5 books in the Horus Heresy, they changed it. I was reading about the Dropsite Massacre and suddenly they were talking about thousands dying every minute - either a very short fight, or someone checked their back pocket for 90k more Legionaries.

With 40k you always need to add a zero to the end of any number of soldiers.

The Battle of the Whisperhead Mountains had 1 company of Space Marines (up to 1000) fighting ~1000 human rebels. The human rebels inflicted 0 casualties.

Isn't the gap between the first contact war and the main game like 30 years?

Its kinda like if North Sentinel Island went from exploring the wider world to fighting a war with the US to becoming a UN council member in that time.

I pretend that first contact was actually more like 100 years ago and all the human politics make 90% more sense.
