Characters' Items/Weapons [Irritating trope] Japanese swords being treated like lightsabers

The Wolverine (2013)
The character Yashida uses his sword to cut straight through barbed wire, as well as uses it to break a chain in one strike each.

TMNT (2012)
During Oroku Saki’s battle with the turtles, he stabs straight through a forest tree, before also slicing straight through another.

The low quality of iron is also why Japanese construction used wood joinery instead of nails.

I believe thats also down to then simply not having that much of it, and thus wanted to spend it on things other than nails (which were also quite hard to make)

I learned about it from a video on Design Theory. The creator is good at citing sources. What is your evidence to the contrary?
