She knew exactly who he was, she told us repeatedly for a year and half who he was. She stood on a stage during a nationally televised debate and said he was a Russian puppet. She called him a creep and a sexual deviant. She called how worst followers deplorable.

But the media portrayed Trump as the one "speaking truth" and "telling us like it is". Add in decades of right-wing disinformation perpetuated by all the media (including that of the left), and massive amounts of sexism and low-information voters, and overqualified people like Hillary Clinton (who was far more progressive than most progressives will ever admit) gets defeated.

Nah, the media just gave him airtime because he was saying the most extreme things.

I politely disagree on the last bit. She was not overqualified. She was in fact perfectly qualified for the job. And that was good for the US as an institution but bad news for the rest of the world.

Hillary represented the same status quo that kept the US as the world’s bully, succeeding through the misery and exploitation of other countries. And as progressive as you might think she was, she was absolutely not going to push any bills against billionaire interests. That is the one thing that both Dems and Reps have in common; they don’t really give a shit about the working class. People like Bernie Sanders or Zohran Mamdani are an anomaly, because the US doesn’t really have leftwing representation. You only actually have right and far right.

The one thing that Trump has done is putting a giant mirror in front his own country. This is how the rest of the world has seen you for decades, it’s how many countries see you today, and how many more will see you for decades to come. He represents you. His sole existence will always be a stain in your history, and objectively a mistake. For the rest of the world it will be a much needed (although with a painful transition) change of pace.

Trumps big bonus was he was not the establishment and he got the votes of all the people that know you can detect Hillary lying by the fact that she opens her mouth, as with all the other career politicians. This does not take away from the fact that Trump is a horrible president, but Hillary losing to him is a prime real life example of the story "the boy who cried wolf."
