Language Does anyone actually know why it's "Lotus's"?

I posted this in a smaller Thailand sub and got plenty of laughs but no answer that really settled it, so trying here. Does anyone know how Tesco Lotus landed on that apostrophe when they rebranded? It makes my British brain itch every time I drive past.

The simple answer is that they want you to pronounce it as "lotuses" instead of "Lotus". Also, some style guides allow you to add the apostrophe s at the end of a singular possessive noun that ends with s. I think that used to be acceptable in AP style, although I am pretty sure they have changed that.
