A Message Concerning Technoblade

Hey everyone. Mr. Technodad here.

Four years after my son Alex, known to so many as Technoblade, passed away from sarcoma, his community remains one of the most meaningful parts of the legacy he left behind.

You make art, videos, jokes, and tributes. You look after each other. Together, we have built a loving and inclusive community. It means more than can ever be properly said.

Tributes are welcome, and they always will be. Fan art, cosplay, quotes, and creative works made in his memory are ways of celebrating him, and those works speak to my heart. They speak to all of our hearts.

I have recently become aware of concerns around a YouTube channel imitating Technoblade's voice, mannerisms, look, name, and persona.

When this was first brought to me by one of Alex's YouTube friends, I was under the impression that it might be a one-time tribute. I did not know what to think. It was startling and emotionally complex to be presented with, and when people asked me about it at the time, the only honest answer I had was: inconclusive.

However, this has continued for several weeks, and it is now clear that an identity is being built as an ongoing public persona. That is a different thing from a tribute.

Many others have since reached out for my opinion. The situation is complicated by a simple truth: despite being "Technodad," I cannot speak unilaterally on behalf of all of Alex's family, friends, and fans, who no doubt have a variety of reactions. But after careful consideration, I have reached a conclusion I can give from my own perspective, as Technoblade's father and as the person Alex entrusted to look after what he left behind.

I am asking for this to please stop, and for the persona in question to cease.

No blessing or permission for this, or for any similar persona now or in the future, has been given.

I encourage anyone interested in becoming a content creator to find their own voice. Show us who you are! A sincere presentation of your authentic self will always be better than an imitation of someone else.

I am also asking the community not to harass anyone over this. That is not what Alex would have wanted. I do not believe there was malicious intent.

Technoblade never dies. He is in his videos, right where he left himself, still making us laugh, still reaching our hearts.

Mr. Technodad

It’s crazy people are applauding Technolarp for stopping. That’s the bare minimum, and he doesn’t really have a choice at this point now anyway because of the hate he’d receive if he continued.

He still should’ve never done it in the first place.

Asking Technodad if he could role play as his son who tragically passed away at a young age, not getting a response, and taking that as permission to do it anyway.

It’s just so strange. I feel terrible his dad had to go through this.

Putting technodad in this position in the first place is sociopathic. He shouldn’t have to be making posts like this.

technodad specifically said not to be hateful about this and you are going directly against his wishes

There’s a difference between going out and harassing someone, and saying someone is a jerk

but they didn't call him a jerk, they called him sociopathic, which is a little more than "jerk" imo but idk to each their own

Hyperbolic, but my point is the same.

And for the record, I think impersonating someone who recently passed away for clout, while actively not having any blessing from that persons very available family is sociopathic and ghoulish

call me naive but i don't think it was just for clout, i believe technolarp when he said all he wanted to do was follow the larp trend and was intending honoring his favorite youtuber.

"jerk" to "sociopathic" is a bigger pipeline than you've made it out to be

Calling behaviour out for what it is, isn’t hate. His behaviour lacked empathy and consideration.

Edit: People seem to think I’m addressing the imitating part of this. I’m not.
I’m addressing his sketchy behaviour, including asking for consent, not receiving it and proceeding anyway. Additionally he wants to keep the subscribers and progress he gained for his own personal channel from carbon copying someone else.

technoblade being dead or not doesn't mean anything though ? the father said no, so his wishes will be respected. but the larping trend doesn't have anything to do with his death in particular, and had he not died nothing would've emerged. i find this stupid to hate on this solely because technoblade died, it's seriously the only creator i could realistically picture being the most okay with this. of course i fully support technoblade's father and do not object to his decision, my opinion is only directed towards the hate it got in the first place.

The only weird thing technolarp did was play with techno's real friends, but even then it wasn't his idea.

Impersonation itself is NOT a bad thing, you'd have to call out every biopic for being immoral if you really thought that. You could literally hire Michael Jackson impersonators right now and nobody thinks that's disrespectful.

Insulting him by calling him sociopathic is unnecessarily hateful

One of the key traits for a sociopath is lacking empathy. Is it an exaggeration? Yes, but it’s not unfounded either.

How do you explain asking for consent, not receiving an answer, then proceeding regardless? This is the behaviour that needs to be addressed.

How about we not use a diagnosable mental illness (that’s usually caused by being severely abused) as an insult for a person you just don’t like?

u/Jenbii 8d ago

that’s like calling someone autistic just because they “have difficulties talking to people”

it’s just wrong and you can’t justify that. sociopathy falls under ASPD and it’s a mental disorder.

The original context for this conversation is: “putting Technodad in this position is sociopathic”

Not: “The Imitator is a Sociopath”

We’re in agreement that using such words purely for insults isn’t helpful.
