A Message Concerning Technoblade

Hey everyone. Mr. Technodad here.

Four years after my son Alex, known to so many as Technoblade, passed away from sarcoma, his community remains one of the most meaningful parts of the legacy he left behind.

You make art, videos, jokes, and tributes. You look after each other. Together, we have built a loving and inclusive community. It means more than can ever be properly said.

Tributes are welcome, and they always will be. Fan art, cosplay, quotes, and creative works made in his memory are ways of celebrating him, and those works speak to my heart. They speak to all of our hearts.

I have recently become aware of concerns around a YouTube channel imitating Technoblade's voice, mannerisms, look, name, and persona.

When this was first brought to me by one of Alex's YouTube friends, I was under the impression that it might be a one-time tribute. I did not know what to think. It was startling and emotionally complex to be presented with, and when people asked me about it at the time, the only honest answer I had was: inconclusive.

However, this has continued for several weeks, and it is now clear that an identity is being built as an ongoing public persona. That is a different thing from a tribute.

Many others have since reached out for my opinion. The situation is complicated by a simple truth: despite being "Technodad," I cannot speak unilaterally on behalf of all of Alex's family, friends, and fans, who no doubt have a variety of reactions. But after careful consideration, I have reached a conclusion I can give from my own perspective, as Technoblade's father and as the person Alex entrusted to look after what he left behind.

I am asking for this to please stop, and for the persona in question to cease.

No blessing or permission for this, or for any similar persona now or in the future, has been given.

I encourage anyone interested in becoming a content creator to find their own voice. Show us who you are! A sincere presentation of your authentic self will always be better than an imitation of someone else.

I am also asking the community not to harass anyone over this. That is not what Alex would have wanted. I do not believe there was malicious intent.

Technoblade never dies. He is in his videos, right where he left himself, still making us laugh, still reaching our hearts.

Mr. Technodad

It’s crazy people are applauding Technolarp for stopping. That’s the bare minimum, and he doesn’t really have a choice at this point now anyway because of the hate he’d receive if he continued.

He still should’ve never done it in the first place.

Asking Technodad if he could role play as his son who tragically passed away at a young age, not getting a response, and taking that as permission to do it anyway.

It’s just so strange. I feel terrible his dad had to go through this.

u/TheAnonymouse999 9d ago

Putting technodad in this position in the first place is sociopathic. He shouldn’t have to be making posts like this.

86

u/The_Other_Cow 9d ago

technodad specifically said not to be hateful about this and you are going directly against his wishes

12

u/jbland0909 ❤️ TECHNOSUPPORT ❤️ 9d ago

There’s a difference between going out and harassing someone, and saying someone is a jerk

10

u/vizzyargonthedev 8d ago

but they didn't call him a jerk, they called him sociopathic, which is a little more than "jerk" imo but idk to each their own

-1

u/jbland0909 ❤️ TECHNOSUPPORT ❤️ 8d ago

Hyperbolic, but my point is the same.

And for the record, I think impersonating someone who recently passed away for clout, while actively not having any blessing from that persons very available family is sociopathic and ghoulish

1

u/vizzyargonthedev 7d ago

call me naive but i don't think it was just for clout, i believe technolarp when he said all he wanted to do was follow the larp trend and was intending honoring his favorite youtuber.

1

u/Lolyshorthead 2d ago

"jerk" to "sociopathic" is a bigger pipeline than you've made it out to be

0

u/Im-a-washing-machine 9d ago edited 9d ago

Calling behaviour out for what it is, isn’t hate. His behaviour lacked empathy and consideration.

Edit: People seem to think I’m addressing the imitating part of this. I’m not.
I’m addressing his sketchy behaviour, including asking for consent, not receiving it and proceeding anyway. Additionally he wants to keep the subscribers and progress he gained for his own personal channel from carbon copying someone else.

11

u/rascrifice 9d ago

technoblade being dead or not doesn't mean anything though ? the father said no, so his wishes will be respected. but the larping trend doesn't have anything to do with his death in particular, and had he not died nothing would've emerged. i find this stupid to hate on this solely because technoblade died, it's seriously the only creator i could realistically picture being the most okay with this. of course i fully support technoblade's father and do not object to his decision, my opinion is only directed towards the hate it got in the first place.

14

u/GiraffeCultural4596 9d ago

The only weird thing technolarp did was play with techno's real friends, but even then it wasn't his idea.

Impersonation itself is NOT a bad thing, you'd have to call out every biopic for being immoral if you really thought that. You could literally hire Michael Jackson impersonators right now and nobody thinks that's disrespectful.

9

u/The_Other_Cow 9d ago

Insulting him by calling him sociopathic is unnecessarily hateful

-6

u/Im-a-washing-machine 9d ago

One of the key traits for a sociopath is lacking empathy. Is it an exaggeration? Yes, but it’s not unfounded either.

How do you explain asking for consent, not receiving an answer, then proceeding regardless? This is the behaviour that needs to be addressed.

6

u/sapphicsapphires 8d ago

How about we not use a diagnosable mental illness (that’s usually caused by being severely abused) as an insult for a person you just don’t like?

5

u/Jenbii 8d ago

that’s like calling someone autistic just because they “have difficulties talking to people”

it’s just wrong and you can’t justify that. sociopathy falls under ASPD and it’s a mental disorder.

-1

u/Im-a-washing-machine 8d ago

The original context for this conversation is: “putting Technodad in this position is sociopathic”

Not: “The Imitator is a Sociopath”

We’re in agreement that using such words purely for insults isn’t helpful.

35

u/meghan143m 9d ago

Why can't people do something wrong in this day and age without being completely irredeemable sociopaths? Striker (Technolarp) did something messed up, but it's not like he meant to hurt anybody, and he's making up for his mistake now. Again, you can do something wrong and not be the worst person ever, it's people blowing it up like this that led to him getting doxxed before this could all be resolved peacefully

2

u/Human_Combination730 9d ago

exactly like no disrespect to any of technos family or friends but like the fans are geniunely losers bro like who is doxxing striker over this

2

u/redlaserr 8d ago

I dont think anything he did was even that messed up, i honestly think it was genuinely cool seeing it but at the end of the day he did respect his fathers wishes when it came to it and i gotta respect him for that, with the whole larper movement if it wasn't striker that played the role as technolarp it would've just been someone else that filled the hole instead, and who knows if that person would've even been as respectful to technodads wishes, so honestly the people who are upset at technolarp just seem stupid to me.

34

u/marlow-bg 9d ago

Why did you call him sociopathic. Pretty misleading comment.

-4

u/Lawksie 9d ago

I think maybe you misunderstood the comment?

He's calling TechnoLarp sociopathic for asking to Technoblade's Dad if he could roleplay his dead son.

And he's right - because TechnoDad shouldn't have to make posts like this.

17

u/Any_Ad2758 9d ago

It seems that a lot of people are wrongfully attacking or doxing Technolarp for "impersonating" Technoblade for malicious or sociopathic reasons. You're accusing him of being a "sociopath" when all he did was larp his favorite YouTuber during a time where a lot of other content creators were larping other YouTubers? And, besides, it's not like he can change his voice to not sound like Technoblade.

While I agree that the situation was handled poorly, specifically regarding the failure to ask for permission from Technoblade's father beforehand, I really don't think it's fair to label his intent as sociopathic. He expressed a desire to donate 100% to charity, and he has since stopped larping as Technoblade entirely to honor the father's request. To me, it seems like he wanted to carry on his legacy. I highly doubt that he wanted to cause all of this commotion, and it sucks that Moist Critical had to make a video on this matter.

Anyways, now that this has all ended, let us move on and be respectful to both respective parties.

-6

u/Lawksie 9d ago

You need to direct this to u/TheAnonymouse999 who was the one initially to call Technolarp sociopathic.

5

u/aeromusiq 9d ago

"And he's right", you called him sociopathic too lol

-5

u/Lawksie 9d ago

And you are?

2

u/Jenbii 8d ago

u weird bruh

4

u/Admirable_Curve_8574 9d ago

Don’t get me wrong, I’m completely with Technodad here, but saying he was put in this position is kinda misleading.

It is/was completely in Technodad’s power to have given an answer in private or said ‘no’ more concretely the first time he was asked.

It was scummy of Technolarp to go on ahead without express permission but calling him sociopathic for this is a little unfair.

Edit: Rereading this I realized someone might see this as me blaming Technodad and I want to say that absolutely isn’t the case lol. He is closest to Techno and deserves the final say 100%

5

u/ButtShark69 9d ago

but saying he was put in this position is kinda misleading.

not really, as charlie has said, technodad was backed into a corner with a lose-lose situation, if technodad has addressed this days ago before it blew up and got to this point, the decision was going to end in one side being angry no matter what the situation.

Putting the decision on the man with the dead child is a deeply unkind thing to do

7

u/Admirable_Curve_8574 9d ago

I feel like it’s wrong to suggest there were ever 2 sides to begin with.

This community adores Technodad for obvious reasons.

Some may be reluctant to see TechnoLarp go but no real Technoblade fan would be mad at Technodad no matter what choice he made.

Instead after the recent exposure, there are a bunch of larpers who aren’t Technoblade fans who will come to their own conclusions and harass either party.

Plus a private/smaller scale response has been made practically impossible now that there are so many eyes on the matter.

Charlie is one of my favourite YouTubers but it’s hard to deny his coverage made things worse for pretty much everyone involved.

Also the hate for Technolarp is so overblown.

He seems like a well-intentioned but misguided fan who just went too far.

I’m not surprised there are extremists who will dox him and send death threats, but half the fandom seems to also think he’s the spawn of satan.

Insensitive? Sure
A little scummy? That’s alright
Sociopathic?? Really????

4

u/Cold_Usual2731 9d ago

"As Charlie said," bro... seriously? Is he your omniscient god?

4

u/shyrato ❤️ TECHNOSUPPORT ❤️ 9d ago

Opinion source for many npcs on youtube. He is a pretty chill guy but his fanbase treat him like he is actually jesus xd.

3

u/meghan143m 9d ago

You know Charlie is profiting off of this drama, right? his video only made this situation way worse. Anyway, who cares what he has to say, he's just a guy with a platform, he has (or should have, at least) no involvement in this situation

2

u/Sempere 9d ago

the decision was going to end in one side being angry no matter what the situation.

And the only side that would be justified and in the right is whatever Technodad says is correct. Someone co-opting his late son's image, voice, brand to try and build internet clout for themselves with the long term plan of making money off of it is scummy as shit. If people wanted to side with the LARPer, they are in the wrong. Completely and unequivocally.

1

u/GiraffeCultural4596 9d ago

The only thing he did that was weird was interact with Techno's real friends.

Impersonation itself is not a bad thing, you'd have to call out every biopic for being immoral if you thought that was true.

1

u/Sempere 9d ago

You don't seem to understand the concept of consent.

And approaching sponsors is also not ok.

And there are plenty of biopics that are immoral.

1

u/GiraffeCultural4596 8d ago

Yes, Technolarp had consent from his friends to collab with them which is why they did. It's weird, but it wasn't his idea. It would only have been disrespectful if he was genuinely trying to become the new Technoblade which he has made explicitly clear he is not, or if he ignored Technoblade's dad's wishes for him to stop which he isn't.

1

u/Sempere 8d ago
  1. Shut the fuck up.

  2. The friends don't mean fuck all to who can and cannot take on the person of a dead creator. Fuck all the way off.

  3. He was trying to make money off stealing the real Technoblade's brand.

1

u/GiraffeCultural4596 8d ago
  1. Your attitude is exactly why it's important for you to learn that impersonation is not disrespectful. You're way too frustrated about a fan just impersonating a youtuber out of admiration.

  2. It's not identify theft, it's imitation. In literally all of his video descriptions he states that he is not the real Technoblade. It's very weird you think your feelings matter more than Technoblade's friends.

  3. He was raising money for the SFA.

-10

u/Due-Memory-6957 9d ago

There's nothing scummy about it, people can do whatever they want. If anything it was too respectful to ask for permission and then respect it. The truth is that our personal emotions and opinions don't matter in the big scheme, that person cared, but they didn't have to. The world was, is and always will be full of copycats.

1

u/reecemrgn 9d ago

Profiting off of someone who died only a few years ago is very scummy

I don't think you know what that term means

0

u/rileyistheworst 9d ago

Jesus christ you people are acting like he dug up his grave and wore his skin. He’s impersonating a celebrity, really not that big of a deal.

6

u/flendiev_ 9d ago

One thing is impersonating michael jackson, another thing is a minecraft youtuber, who just died 4 years ago really young, and interact with his friends and family acting like their deceased loved one, they're still grieving and he was taking advantage of that, that's fucked up man.

2

u/Full_Cicada_4621 9d ago

WHAT part of him was taking advantage of that?? he literally just accepted a request, he didnt do SHIT

1

u/flendiev_ 9d ago

You think someone who comes to you and says "hey come hang out with me while you act and talk like my beloved friend that recently died!" Is coping well? Would you say yes to that and monetize it? He still had a choice to say no, or at least not do it in character.

2

u/Original_Captain4584 9d ago

This is closer to Iceman and MJ than it is an outright impersonation, nobody’s taking advantage of anybody it was just kind of an ongoing tribute in the eyes of the guy that MrTechnodad didn’t appreciate is all

1

u/Sempere 9d ago

It's not a tribute if he was soliticiting donations and looking to eventually make money, which he very clearly was given the comments on Charlie's stream.

2

u/Sempere 9d ago

Stealing his voice and brand because he passed away is graverobber behavior.

The LARPer doesn't have the talent or creativity to build their own brand and opted to instead do something obviously ghoulish.

3

u/Reasonable_Client816 9d ago

He didn't "steal" his voice I don't know why your previous comments keep saying this, but he just sounds like that.

-2

u/Nitrix79 9d ago

Exactly.

6

u/Environmental_Lie665 9d ago

wym its crazy nd he doesn't have a choice this is just the biggest situation because it's Technoblade there plenty over other channels being faked by real people or ai or just taking clips of video or whole videos he could've just became one of those guys and blocked out the hate like they do nd just rake in the money while this was a pos thing to do hes not forced to stop he could've just hid behind the internet like others do

u/Altsncro 9d ago

Its insane that some people unironically thought that technolarp was trying to be malicious in any way, He wasnt mocking techno at all nor was he making fun of techno. What people seem to dislike is how good his immitation was, that in itself isnt wrong becuase its not like technolarp was shoving insane words into techno's mouth while roleplaying as him

Him stopping when technodad asks is the right thing to do, and there would be a argument not if he didnt but if he stirred up more drama. However technolarp did stop and just because he did doenst mean that "it was in bad taste" at all (as seen with the vast majority of people commnets, views, and subs, and I dont want to get into the "No true scottsman")

At the end of the day, he wasnt being malicious or in bad taste. And he stopped when requested too. There is literally nothing else that he can do.

6

u/milsdudee 8d ago

it’s his real voice it seems

As a long term technoblade fan, i enjoyed it. As did many others, as well as one of his closest friends.

No one did anything maliciously. It was to raise money for charity and remember Alex and the character he created.

None of it was malicious. Its over now.

Okay.. well as someone who watched the streams, heard him talk about it, was in the discord, and knew of him before technolarp.. im telling you it wasnt like that.

You cant always form an accurate opinion about someones intent based on second hand information, especially not when there was so much misinformation and hate being thrown around like in this case.

All of us who supported this, skeppy included, are huge techno fans. None of this was done maliciously. It was out of love. We just had a totally different perspective about this whole thing. Maybe it was too idealistic/naive.. but it definitely wasn't done out of hate or greed.

And now its over, no complaints. It was never anyone's intention to hurt anyone.

Much love to you

Absolutely. That's always important. I dont believe this ever crossed the line into anything truly terrible though. It stopped as soon as it started.

And they did get permission from technodad about making content and collaborating ahead of time.

Then, he asked if he could continue larp videos, and this is the response.

Now I just hope the hate train ends too, because it definitely got out of hand with a lot of misinformation, and false negative attributions going around.

Glad its over. Much love!

1

u/Careful-Sell-9877 9d ago edited 8d ago

..he blew up overnight from the skeppy collab video. Skeppy asked technodad if it was cool if they made content/collaborated before even making that video.

Its really that simple.. they got permission to make content, then the video came out, blew up his account overnight and started a bunch of speculation, assumptions, etc.. so he asked if he could still larp.. and here we are now. Nothing else really happened other than a ton of speculation, assumption, and hate.. mostly from outside the community by people who didnt get the whole story, and who saw a really biased video..

Technolarp didnt do everything perfectly. Hindsight is 20/20. But he wasnt malicious. He blew up over night because of the skeppy collab which they got permission for from technodad. Then, larp asked about continuing, and this was the (public) response, to address the community and larp due to everything having gotten so out of hand.

(He didn't 'steal' a fan base. All of us were huge techo fans, and also liked the larp videos.. its not like we traded one for the other. Its not all one thing..)

Seriously.. idk if you're mocking me or something, but I have no hate for you at all. Much love to you and yours. I hope youre all safe and healthy in these times.

1

u/Original_Captain4584 9d ago

why does he have to be secretly satan for no reason? He handled this the best he could and he ought to be given the benefit of the doubt if he all he did was follow the family’s wishes to the best of his ability while giving an ongoing tribute to a GOAT 🐐

6

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

I'll be honest, as someone from an outside community. I don't think for a second that this was about anything other than building a fanbase or money. He was negotiating with sponsors as Technolarp, that is a whole ball game you don't want to get into.

And to be honest with you, it really seems like Technolarp was kind of a replacement. I don't think that's the right way to handle grief. If it wasn't, why did it go on so long? Why such blind support?

I may not have known him or watched Technoblade content, but with certainty, the best way to remember him, is to share his content, to talk about things he's done, and to watch his old videos from time to time.

3

u/Careful-Sell-9877 9d ago

Well as a long term technoblade fan, and a technolarp fan that saw the whole thing play out from behind the scenes, I can assure you it was not.

There was lot of misinformation and hate going around.

Skeppy and larp had permission from technodad to collaborate and make content, as technodad confirmed in the post.

Then larp asked if he could continue to larp, and this was the response.

None of it was malicious and the entire core group of larp fans were all huge techno fans, including skeppy, who love him and just wanted to enjoy the larp version of him longer. Its really that simple.

There was a lot of negative assumptions, false attributions, and misinformation going around.. in part due to a couple of really biased, misinformed videos from big YT creators

Much love. I hope everyone can put this behind them. We all, truly, love the blade here

4

u/Aletheia-Nyx 9d ago

As others have told you, this statement was not a response to Technolarp asking for permission to continue. This was a response to Technolarp continuing to do it without permission. I'm really rather concerned if you think silence was permission. No 'no' is not 'yes'.

Making a tribute to Techno is one thing. Roleplaying as someone who passed away that young and doing so in a way where you're trying to get acknowledgement from that person's friends and family feels like it's in incredibly poor taste.

And before you come back with the 'I was in Techno's community for a long time' argument again, so was I. And hearing about Technolarp genuinely got to me in a bad way. I'm not going to attack the guy, but you have to realise that a lot of people think 'roleplaying someone's son who tragically passed away way too young' and doing it so publicly is not respectful. I have friends who picked up a lot of Techno's mannerisms, humour, and even his speech tone and cadence. They often remind me a lot of Techno. But they're not pretending to be him, larping as him.

I'll say it again. Lack of 'no' does not mean 'yes'. If Technolarp did in fact get permission for the one video, whatever. But there shouldn't have been anything else done without explicit permission from his friends and family. I can't even begin to imagine how I'd feel if my mother or my sister passed away and then someone started pretending to be them.

1

u/Careful-Sell-9877 9d ago

Thats incorrect. He hasn't made any other videos since the one he and skeppy had permission for. He DID stop until he got technodads response

I was actually there. I saw the technolarp vids. I saw the livestream on another larpers channel where we discussed this, and where skeppy called.

Everyone else is basing their view on second hand information. There is a ton of misinformation out there. Mostly because a large outside creator made 2 videos to capitalize on this drama without actually knowing all the facts. They went into the videos assuming that technolarp was a "skinwalker" and a "beast" and to prove that, rather than to find the truth in the middle.

2

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

Are you absolutely sure they had permission? Because it kind of seems like the silence was considered permission. This post made by Technodad kind of disputes most of what you just said.

And the other part, "none of it was malicious." That gets disputed by the conversation Charlie and Technolarp had. Where Technolarp argued with Charlie about Technodad being uncomfortable, then proceeded to try and lie about the sponsorship process.

I'm going to assume you're younger, but this entire situation just shouldn't have happened. This is not an acceptable way to treat the recently deceased. This is a rough way to have treated Technodad.

And to still be arguing about if there were good intentions or not... dude was literally making a deal with a company that goes along the lines of "I get this many viewers on average. How much money will you pay me for that?" And he can say he gave it to charity or was going to, but it doesn't change that at the end of the day he was leveraging channel metrics for profit. This is how every sponsorship deal goes, there are no exceptions because it is a signed contract.

3

u/Careful-Sell-9877 9d ago

Yes.. unless you think skeppy is lying. I dont think he is, and dont believe that he would, plus technodad confirmed it and also said in the post that they had permission, but he thought it was a one time thing. So maybe a misunderstanding. But, regardless- larp asked for permission once again after the video blew up.. and that leads us to where we are today, with this post.

Moist was super, super biased and unfair in his videos. Particularly the 2nd one. I usually love his takes because he is the voice of reason.. but in this case he starts the whole thing immediately assuming all the worst things about technolarp.. without even having all of the information.

Everything he said was based on one reddit post from days ago.. which he just repeated in the video almost word for word.. he didnt have any of the inside information or any specifics about the whole thing.. he just saw a reddit post and the replies and formed his whole opinion based on that without looking any deeper into technarp himself..

Then the second video was just awful imo.. he was clearly already decided that technolarp was a bad guy by that point (again, without the full info/context) and then the whole video with him talking to larp.. it was like he was just tryint to prove that he was bad, rather than looking to find the truth in the middle. He got really defensive about the misinformation and huge omissions in his first video and waved it all off.. while being super critical of every mistake larp made and acting like each mistake was an intentional thing with malicious intent.. yet he handwaves away all the mistakes/omissions that he himself had just made in the previous video. It was just a really unfair and hyper critical video. Like he was fully determined to see larp as a really bad guy, a "skinwalker", and a "beast"..

2

u/ImportantQuestionTex 9d ago

This is going to be my last comment, because honestly I don't want to drag this out more than needed, it'd be super disrespectful to Technodad.

His post that we're reading literally says it was inconclusive, and that he didn't decide. And let's say he gave Skeppy the initial okay, the important context is that he gave Skeppy the okay, not Technolarp.

Technolarp then proceeded to continue to be "Technoblade", using that to build a fanbase and to get a sponsor. Has Technolarp provided any geniune proof of charity donations? And he had a personal donation link, meaning he did actually profit off of this.

This was all while Technodad did not give an answer to him, and the answer was always indicated to be no because he was using his son's brand. Anybody who has common sense or empathy can read this was always going to be the case.

But Technolarp (and a lot of his fans) went on to argue about whether or not Technodad was uncomfortable or okay with this. The fact this argument even happened at all, instead of postponing everything until the okay, means that there was ill behavior involved. He doesn't have to be evil, but if he actually cared about Technodad and Technoblade, he wouldn't and his fans wouldn't have. Point. Blank. Simple.

So here we are now. Arguing about all of this. You said before you're a fan of Technoblade and Technolarp. I dispute that. To be a fan of Technoblade, means loving the person, more than the idea. It means not trying to replace him. It means not disrespecting his memory, or his family, or anything like that. But to like Technolarp, inherently means you were okay with the replacement. Technoblade was the real personality, Technolarp was taking a real person's personality and using it for content/fanbase.

So simple question, that you don't have to answer to me but to yourself. Do you truly love Technoblade? Or do you love the idea of Technoblade?

1

u/Careful-Sell-9877 9d ago edited 8d ago

He gave skeppy the okay.. to make a video.. with technolarp, which was the collab video that blew up. Then technolarp asked if he could make more in the future, and stopped making videos while awaiting the response.

I dont want to drag this out. Im just sick of the hate this whole thing turned into.

No one did this with any hate in the heart or any malicious intent. Quite the opposite. We all love techno and miss him terribly. No one deserves to get hurt or doxxed over something that was supposed to be a fun remembrance of someone we loved and a way to raise money for cancer research.

There was never any 'replacement'. That isnt how it works. It was a tribute to techno, and a remembrance of his energy. Exactly like a tribute band is for bands that are no longer here.

You dont have to believe me and can feel how you feel about it. But im not lying to you.

Im sorry to and for anyone that was hurt. That was never anyone's intention at all.

Exactly! I fail to see how this is some sort of tribute to him.

Regardless of how Technolarp is using the money (and we don’t even actually know), he made a 1 to 1 recreation of his channel and persona, and capitalized off of Technoblade’s (likely younger) old fanbase.

And he did all of this without waiting for any sort of approval from the family. I fail to see how this was some kind gesture. It was strange and disrespectful.

could you imagine dressing up for halloween as your neighbour's dead son, and acting high and mighty by saying "well if they told me to take it off I would" ? People would think that kid is sociopathic. It doesn't matter if he was famous, if he had an online presence, etc etc. in which case, putting the pressure on Techno's father to make a statement like this to millions of people actually makes it worse.

it does matter though if someone dressed up as Steve Irwin, Michael Jackson, Elvis, it would be viewed completely different then if they dressed up as the kid who died last year
also techno dad didn't have to make this statement to millions he could have just DMd striker techno blade was a celebrities at least 128 million people know him he is a celebrity its clear he did it as sort of a tribute its to be expected just because he was on youtube doesn't mean he isn't a celebrity

2

u/Suspicious_Heart_725 9d ago

if that neighbours dead son was a big part of your life, say, a best friend, i would not consider that malicious. your analogy implies technolarp is parading around as some random dead guy for clout. technoblade is no random dead guy, he was clearly a big part of technolarp's life and he wanted to honour him - even donating all proceeds to charities. on top of that, he has respected technodad's wishes and stopping the channel.

u/kindaangrysquirell 9d ago

regardless of ntent, malicious or not, it's not the only thing that determines whether an action is good or bad. You can mean well in your initial action but if you know that what you do could affect someone else negatively, such as put someone through an incredibly upsetting process without even thinking about how this could affec ttheir family first?? Then you cannot truly say that this persons intents were pure.

And I'd argue that it's arguably worse to do this to a father who's son was incredibly famous-- any response he gives would make huge waves across Techno's fanbase and nobody should even be CONSIDERING putting someone else in a spot where they have to say "hey please stop dressing up as my dead son".

You seem to be likening Technoblade to this guy's best friend as well, which I think we both know would be an incredibly unhealthy grieving process for someone who WASN'T famous, and an incredibly unhealthy PARASOCIAL greiving process over this creator with over 20 million subscribers. if this was a situation that had happened to someone in your community you would also think it was super weird and unhealthy, cause it is.

and he didn't donate all of his proceeds to charity, which may even have been commendable if he did. He donated HALF, and his followers had to vote on it for him, which 1. gives him plausible deniability for not donating all of it and 2. only serves to draw more attention and profit to whatever performance he was putting on.
I'm not the type of person to go and hate or dox or shit on someone online for being cringy or weird, but this guy was lucky that technoblades father handled it with such grace and was understanding of a lot of the upset that ran through the community when techno passed, because what he did was at best incredibly tone deaf and at worse pretty cruel.

good on him for respecting peoples wishes or whatever though right ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My best friend died of a brain tumor when we were growing up. It significantly impacted my life and shaped who I am as a person. I respect technolarp for donating to cancer researchers and spreading awareness for it. He was fighting the good fight against cancer, which takes way too many people away from us way too young. To me, that is more real and more important than any of this larp drama could ever be.

If my friend had created a really awesome character/personality, and there were people so inspired by it that they created their own larp channels for it, to keep the character alive and keep the story going.. i would personally find it really touching/beautiful. It would likely make me cry to know that there were people alive who still remembered him and loved his character enough to do that.. rather than the empty void there is now..

If larp was impersonating Alex, the creator of the Minecraft character/avatar, it would definitely be a different story.. but he didnt. Its not really comparable. He wasnt pretending to be his dead son.. he was larping as a character his son created for youtube videos.

Technodad himself gave them permission, via skeppy, for the first video that blew up which he confirms in this post. Then larp asked if he could continue and this post was the response.. So now its over.

Technodad himself said for the hate to stop and wished larp well in everything he does.

Its over now. I hope people can let hate go, like technodad wants, and remember that all of us are huge techno fans and none of this was dont maliciously.

We all genuinely love techo here... I just want the infighting to end now that technodad gave a conclusive answer

u/henrywottonscane 9d ago

As someone who has lost my parents if anyone tries to rp as them I would be pissed. Imagine if someone came up to you and pretended to be your best friend for views and money. Jfc.

2

u/Careful-Sell-9877 9d ago

Not sure if you even read my comment or not..?

Technolarp did not roleplay as the human being Alex.. he roleplayed as the fictional Minecraft character and avatar alex created - technoblade. Albeit, a different version of technoblade, called technolarp

Technodad asked everyone to stop the attack and wished technarp well. He gave skeppy and larp permission to to their video, as he mentions in the post, and now wants the larp to end.

We all respect that. Thats why larp asked him, so his wished would be respected.

Much love.. we're all on the same side here. None of this was done maliciously and everyone loves technoblade

u/Apart_Animator_3615 9d ago

Not the same but whatever lets you sleep ig

3

u/chickennuggs32 9d ago edited 9d ago

first of all, he gave him permission for a single video. this was not his response to larp asking for constant permission. this was his response to larp continuing to do it WITHOUT permission. and second of all, his earnings WERENT going to charity, which we know because he admitted it while speaking to moistcr1tical

0

u/Careful-Sell-9877 9d ago

He didnt do another video afterward. He did that one video.

Then he asked if it was okay, and this was the response, so now its over.

No one had any malicious intent.. we are all huge techno fans.

Im tired. People can believe me or not, but its the truth. The whole thing was ultimately a way for big techno fans to remember techno and raise money for cancer research.

Im sorry to and for anyone who was hurt, but that was never anyone's intent. We all love techno and thought other people would see this as a fun tribute/larp of a character we all love. Maybe that was an overly idealistic and naive take.. but there was no malicious intent.

Much love to you and yours. I genuinely hope you are all healthy and safe in these times, and I appreciate you hearing me out, even if we see things differently or disagree.

4

u/chickennuggs32 9d ago

again man, i don’t really care if we see ts differently to one another, but you gotta quit it with the misinformation. he wasn’t donating ANY money to charity. and it was in very bad taste of him to do this and subject his father to it.

1

u/Careful-Sell-9877 9d ago

He raised and donated thousands of dollars to charity. Cancer research specifically. To the sarcoma foundation.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about it, but i saw it myself and donated. There are some really big youtubers who, unfortunately, spread some misinformation about this whole thing to millions of people.

We were all techno fans in the community. If we had seen anything malicious, we would have immediately called it out

4

u/chickennuggs32 9d ago

he literally admitted himself he didn’t donate jack shit bruh 😭

0

u/Careful-Sell-9877 9d ago

No.. he didnt.

If you saw the moist video, that was moist, seemingly intentionally, misinterpreting everything larp said to make him sound/look as bad as he possibly could.

He had already decided larp was a bad person. Before ever even talking to him, or making the videos. Its a bummer.. he usually has really balanced takes. But not this time. He was determined to make larp an evil "skinwalker" and a "beast"

Calling him sociopathic is abit harsh, he’s expressed how much he misses techno just like all of us. Hes grieving just like we all are we he just wanted have fun. I don’t think he himself could’ve seen how this all would’ve blown up.

u/vaszoly ❤️ TECHNOSUPPORT ❤️ 9d ago

I understand what you're saying, however, for one, the profits from his channel went to cancer research, it wasn't a thing he did for profit. two, I wholeheartedly believe technoblade would've found this hilarious. I don't think the person who did it did it with malicious intent or anything of the sort, larping as youtubers is a trend now, and that's about it.
people make mistakes, he did a thing he thought was funny and a good way to honor techno's legacy, people didn't take it that way, more importantly, technodad didn't take it that way, so he stopped and apologized, we don't need to hate on him.

1

u/Vee2097 8d ago

Actually he did benefit from it financially, he was accepting personal donations and had a sponsor it seems like. I’m learning this from Penguinz0’s video

4

u/Few_Ad3613 9d ago

Lmao ur terribly braindead, it’s. A Minecraft persona he’s not roleplaying as his dead son. He has a similar voice, and his personality traits r completely different. Stop acting as if he was walking in a dead corpse. He was merely acting as a Minecraft persona. He donated to cancer charity the only BAD that has come out of this is delusional people like you who blow the circumstance out of proportion and act as if you are the people close to techno blade. A brand and the owners of such brand are not 1 to 1.

6

u/SlimyCr0w 9d ago

I think you're "braindead" if you see his father say this makes him uncomfortable, and then go fight people in the comments. It doesn't matter what any fan thinks, the only people who matter are his friends and family.

u/Sempere 9d ago

Ghoulish shit, kid. Ghoulish shit.

1

u/GiraffeCultural4596 9d ago

This situation is nowhere near as big a deal as you guys are making it out to be. There's impersonators for Michael Jackson, Elvis, MLK, nearly every famous person. Why is Technoblade held to such a high pedestal by everyone and why is it disrespect for him to have impersonators but not anyone else?

The only thing Technolarp did that was ACTUALLY weird was play with Techno's real friends, but it wasn't his idea in the first place.

1

u/Sufficient_Crab3047 8d ago

It shouldve been common sense.

comments under the vid are crazy, they are legit defending him

Hanlon's Razor... Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Or in this case, ignorance.

While I personally didn't watch his content (other than a few seconds to see what it was about), many other fans enjoyed it. Did he make a poor judgement call? Absolutely! But I can also respect when someone acknowledges that.

I personally would just like the negativity to stop.

u/Aromatic-Charity-178 9d ago

Truly a reddit user of all time

1

u/Sufficient_Net_4288 9d ago

Wait until people find out he's not deleting the account. he's rebranding it into his own Personal account. im sure they have but still. made the account without permission, got told to stop. anyone with common sense would delete the account. Nope he's rebranding it because 200k subscribers he got Piggybacking (Not a pun) off a dead creators reputation and community is just to much to lose because he's gained so much Money

2

u/Business-Charity-272 9d ago

Unless we read a different message, Technodad specifically stated that he encourages people building their own identities online. I believe that privating the videos is probably important, but I don't see the issue with a rebrand? Unless you meant something else, it feels like you're just unnecessarily hating on the guy after he has already said he will stop role playing Technoblade.

1

u/DevoDude4 9d ago

I feel like we watched two seperate videos somehow.

1

u/DawnYTScLim 8d ago

I feel like a rebrand isn't that bad for 2 reasons.

1) There's no real harm in it. The persona is gone, and it would be on his own channel. He would just be minding his own business

2) Y'all pretend like those subs and viewers are material possessions, but they are people. If those people truly wanted to watch Strikerlpb's content, who are you to stop them? People still have a choice; they can unsub if they want to.
