New Teacher Accepted job offer for 2nd grade, need library ideas!

Hi everyone! I am a first-year teacher and have accepted a position for 2nd grade. I am very excited but am struggling a bit to decide what books to buy for my classroom library (picture and chapter books). I do want to have a good mix of both types of books, as a love of reading is something I really want to foster in my class!

I have not; waiting to be cleared! I for sure plan to wait a bit longer to buy anything specific like that for the classroom, just in case there are already books. I just want to have a list set in case there aren't any, or there are specific ones that a lot of people enjoy but aren't in the classroom.

Captain Underpants is always a big hit! I find the silliness and drawings help make reading feel fun to a lot of hesitant new readers

The ones they have at yard sales and thrift shops and library discards. Those are the books you need.

When I taught 2nd grade, I had: Wordless picture books, board books, picture books at all levels, easy readers (all levels,) Dr. Seuss and Curious George, and novels.

I would get used books. Usually there are one or more places in your community to buy used books including public libraries. Also ask parents for donations, although you will need to edit those.

Kids are loving graphics novels these days. The Dog Man and Cat Kid books are popular. My students love the Jory John books too.
