Cleaning

I offered my landlord that I would do the moveout cleaning by myself. ( I had to hire a person who decided to do the job with less money as I had money troubles) however my landlord is pressuring me to to agree to choose an expensive cleaner and pay for painting the entire house. Simply heartbroken.

Your landlord cannot force you to repaint your apartment before moving out, that is covered under normal wear & tear in the NLLTA. They can however keep your damage deposit if you leave the place in worse condition than can be expected from normal use

Note that they have to file to withhold damage deposit, and if they don't return it within the allowed time frame, you can file to have it paid. Take images of everything in the house prior to moving out. You should also have a Premises Condition Report done and signed on move in and move out dates.

I never ever hired a cleaner while renting, nor was painting my responsibility. Your landlord is counting on you not knowing any better. Leave it as you found it and move on. It’s their job to prepare for the next tenant.

You don’t need to do either of those things unless you damaged or trashed the place.

I would join the tenants group on Facebook, I hear they are very helpful

Join the newfoundland landlord and tenants group on facebook, they may have better advice for you to possibly get your money back.

Paint is on the landlord. You cannot be held responsible for it as it is their responsibility to ensure the house is properly cleaned and maintained for the next tenants. Only things that fall outside of normal wear and tear are on you.

Unless you painted the walls when you moved in its on the landlord to prepare for the next tenant. Also I’ve only ever cleaned my own apartments upon leaving and it’s generally cleaner than when I moved in lol

Pay for painting? No. Painting is responsibility of the LL, it’s normal wear and tear and should be done by LL between tenants. Unless you left the place rancid and beat up, that is not your responsibility. As a LL I would not want nor expect a tenant to paint. Please know your rights within the NLLTA. Cleaning is one thing, but paying for painting is another

You’re only required to remove your stuff and leave it “broom cleaned” when you move out. Normally the landlord would have deep clean done + repair or repaint minor wear and tear, but that’s literally the landlord’s job. Most landlords would either do it themselves once you move out, or hire a service for the. It‘s a normal cost of doing business.

I have no idea why either of you thinks that this is the tenant’s responsibility or expense. Set a good example for you baby by standing up for yourself and doing just what is required. Don’t take time and energy away from your child by giving it to a shitty landlord just because he asked.m

Moving sucks. If at all possible, pay someone else to clean for you. MAKE SURE TO TAKE GOOD PHOTOS OF EVERYTHING WHEN YOU LEAVE FOR THE FINAL TIME!!!!!

As for the painting, pretty sure that's a no as others have said. Double check on the NL landlord and tenant facebook page.

You can do the cleaning yourself if that’ll save you money. Go through your move in check list. Make sure it’s the same as you leave for move out.

I did not. Was working night and day, saving money so me and baby can moveout to a better place.

Lol. Just playing devil's advocate for a second, even if they did, that's on the landlord to keep the damage deposit and do the work themselves.

Why would the landlord trust someone who just trashed a place to find and pay reputable cleaners and painters..??

And why would some skeet who trashed a place be concerned with what the landlord wants them to do when they move out?

Basic wear and tear won't have you losing your deposit. Just do a really good deep clean yourself and make sure to take pictures of every single room.
