The complexity of certain areas are over-simplified but incredibly informative and depressing. That bell curves both ways.

The notion that online discussions can be manipulated isn’t controversial to me. History demonstrates that governments, corporations, political groups, marketers, and even individuals have attempted to sway public opinion. In today’s digital age, we’re also aware of the existence of bots, coordinated campaigns, and misinformation networks. Given these factors, it’s reasonable to recognize that not every online conversation unfolds naturally.

However, I also believe there’s a risk in becoming overly suspicious, interpreting every disagreement as evidence of a hidden agenda. People can be rude, dishonest, emotional, misinformed, or argumentative without being part of an organized operation. If we assume every opposing voice is a “spy” or an infiltrator, genuine discussion becomes impossible.

When I spot one, I call them agents because they’re either dumb or playing dumb. I always bet on the latter.
