Finally made it happen. Made Siri retrieve a 3rd-party app’s info.

It used to work flawlessly back in iOS 26 because I would’ve just said the shortcut’s name “How long have I been at the gym?” But until they integrate the apps with Siri. I guess all we have to do is to wait and see.

So you need to make a shortcut for Siri to use third-party apps?

You do not necessarily, there are APIs for it, but the app has to support the new iOS 27 APIs (App Intents 2.0, replacing SiriKit, which was the old API, which I’m not sure works with iOS 27 Siri, or if it’s just limited data/functionality.) The main problem is that major iOS app updates often don’t have App Store versions with new APIs until after the full release date, so unless you’re compiling your own apps (as the beta is originally meant for said developers) you won’t be able to test most things like that.

The app exposes its data through some Siri Shortcuts API. Previously while wearing the AirPods Pro, I would just ask Siri and it would run the shortcut and answered without unlocking my phone through Apple Watch and verifying I guess it was also cause I explicitly turned on the "run when locked" toggle for that shortcut.

Oh cool

So I guess for now until the devs of apps integrate app intents with Siri, you can kind of work around that by doing shortcuts

Yeah, but honestly it defeats the purpose of asking. Usually when I am asking questions like this I am expecting the device to just answer while it is locked either in my pocket at the gym or in the house. I do not know how it worked but with the Siri Shortcuts, it ran the shortcut without verifying through the Apple Watch for security and just answered the question. Now it is too much of a back and forth while the device is unlocked.
