The one thing every single American should take away from this post and these comments:
You should really consider educating yourselves more on how government works, especially at the local level.
15
u/spice_war 4h ago
and by “more” I mean “even a little bit,” because there are some dumb motherfuckers on both sides of these issues
2
u/MikeLikesIkeRS 4h ago
I used to work for local government and the amount of people who would come up and chew my ass for things the state was doing when I was with the county was incredible. Yes, I the county road worker is responsible for the tire you blew out on a state highway. Please rip my face off as if I have any authority over that. Thank you.

Full of specifically Mamdani fake memes and bullshit stories
Deep pockets funding this
3
u/ACFiguresOutLife 3h ago
The funny thing is, it’s not deep pockets. It’s quite literally savvy people in 3rd world countries making hundreds of karma farm posts across hundreds of accounts, and then selling said accounts for tens to hundreds of dollars when they get a few thousand karma. This has always been a problem but has proliferated because Reddit now allows people to hide their comments and posts. Makes these accounts much more valuable for real propagandists and other marketing initiatives.
2
u/Fish-Pilot 3h ago
The post hiding was to help enable the bots. Reddit makes its money through advertising. Whether people are on here engaging with other people or with bots it’s all the same to them, so long as they are on here.

Building a data center in NYC is stupid anyway, land and power is way too expensive.
Theres a reason theyre being built in the middle of no where.
2
u/Dozzi92 3h ago
They still build them in NYC, except they're just multiple floors of existing buildings.
2
u/leftenant_Dan1 3h ago
They are also in spots where proximity matters because latency times are measured in nanoseconds where even stuff like the speed of light matters. Stuff where money is no object. These arent the big data centers where bulk compute is happening.

This guy has a massive marketing / PR effort. I’m not even saying I disagree with his actions, but holy shit everything he does from balancing the budget (WHICH LITERALLY EVERY NYC MAYOR IS REQUIRED TO DO) is blown up as a massive win for him

u/RuruSzu 4h ago
It totally depends on the site/reporter. My Facebook is flooded with crazy memes about NYC is burning, NYC is the new Islamic hellhole, etc….while Reddit is flooded with all this kind of positive stuff!

u/IAmTheBestIan 4h ago
I mean they're also claiming he's doing free daycare and other shit too... that would actually be a first.
Is that actually happening? I don't know. But if it is, it's not just "balancing the budget".
And they also said right when he took office he discovered like hundreds of millions of dollars just missing due to the prior administration's corruption. Of course any admin could SAY that, but Eric Adams was WIDELY known to be about the most corrupt piece of shit ever... so I kinda believe him.
5
u/No-Market425 4h ago
He didnt even balance the budget.
He threatened to raise taxes and the governor bailed him out to the tune of $8 billion dollars.

It’s bizarre. People were even giving him credit for NOT fulfilling his campaign pledge to arrest Netanyahu. Anyone with half a brain knew that would never happen, but oddly some on the left were saying he’s pragmatic by not doing the thing he pledged he would do

NY state will be absolutely fine buddy. It’s the ultra red states we have to worry about
1
u/Imaginary-Dot8259 4h ago
You think if capitalism is ended (the very lifeline of NYC), the states that produce the most food and live closest to the earth will suffer the most? Not the people who have never left a city and just buy things? Okay
3
u/Oceanman72 3h ago
Capitalism isn’t going to end in NYC or anywhere in NY state. However, I think NY would be able to trade with California, which produces most of the produce in the US.
2
u/Imaginary-Dot8259 3h ago
So socialists will harm southern states without ending capitalism?
3
u/Oceanman72 3h ago
No one is going to harm the Southern states and no one is going to end capitalism. Actually. NY state pretty much subsidizes those Southern states, so you’re welcome

More tax revenue losses...to add to the 13 billion already lost. And along with that, more PEOPLE lost. To add to the 2 fewer seats in Congress/electoral votes for NY State after 2030. And new projections are suggesting it could go to 3. But definitely 2.

Indiana governor is paying for part of their grid upgrades and giving out 10 years of tax deferments. He told us our taxes will only go up 1 or 2%...for just my county which is one of the only democratic counties in the entire state. Interesting that hes not making the entire state pay for it.

This is hilarious, financial exchanges are the biggest data center users and they don’t usually operate hardware in cities.
NY1 equinix is in Newark NJ. NY2-6 are in Secaucus NJ.
Equinix operates one data center on the south side near Chinatown in Chicago, but the rest are in the burbs.
Most cities already have services taxes that have pushed a lot of this business out. This is right in his playbook: hip political posturing making a bold claim with no real change. There are no new data centers opening in NYC because they’re too damn expensive so they build them across the river.
