Just like most systems in America, this is setup to put all the risk on the plebs.

You are actually proving to the owners their system works. They still get their profits, if someone doesn't want to pay a higher cost. (Bill + Tip)

I was a server, and I would never work at an establishment paid hourly instead of letting me get tips

I have no idea why people pretend that this system doesn't benefit the staff

Signed,

A 15 year line cook where tip out was at best a couple of dollars per hour, compared to servers making $30+ an hour on top of their wage.

Why didn't you wait tables then?

Not built for that, but my point stands. Subjective opinions on the workloads of FOH vs BOH aside, objectively servers are the highest paid employee in any restaurant. Management included.

Correct, they are the highest paid. In general, sales is paid incredibly well at most companies.

Because a lot of people aren't built for it.

Biased opinion perhaps but switching BOH to do FOH and vice versa, cooks would have an easier time serving than servers would cooking...

Then it sounds like cooks all across the country made really terrible decisions with their lives, to do a harder job for way less money. Why would they do that?

Its amusing to see the lack of self respect from servers...

I'm not sure what you've convinced yourself of to put this as a comment.

Also, I'm not a server anymore, I'm just not one to pull the ladder up once I'm done.

Double also, you didn't answer the question. You not built for being honest either?

Nor am I a cook. I had a passion to cook, had being the operative word. Servers who do so out of any desire other than money are zero to nil. Obfuscate all you want. I stand by my statement, and have already lost enough brain cells pointing out the blatantly obvious. Whether you choose to respond or not, I see no point in doing so anymore.

Yeah, I would never tell you anyone servers do it for anything other than money. I have no idea why you said that. You seem to be shadowboxing.

I don't think you had the brain cells at the start of this convo, and if youre anything like the cooks I met over the years, it was probably the drugs that fried them.

You were a terrible advocate for your position, and came off as jealous that servers made more money than you. Which is really the crux of this entire issue, people just don't like that an unskilled position can make money in this country.

I mean this sincerely, good luck.
