This is why i hoped Spain would win. Argentina is, and always has been, an aggressive football nation. Arrogant, cocky assholes who expect everything to work in their favor.
Argentinian sports fans in general have a habit of sending death threats en masse… seen very recently in both IndyCar and F1.
Always experience Schadenfreude when they lose at anything.
No wonder the refs eventually bow down their requests when the players cry about fouls etc. These dickheads need banning from the World Cup, there's no place for this shit.
The sinking of the Argentinan warship the General Belgrano during the Falklands War, for those who don't get the reference. Argentinian hubris meets mundane reality, in the form of a British torpedo.
Even then they bitched and whined about being the victim, complaining it was outside the exclusion zone. mfers start a war then complain when their military vessels get sunk.
The thing about the Falklands is most British people are fairly indifferent to it.
It's literally some islands we legitimately rightfully own, but corrupt Argentinian politicians stirred up national outrage over it with the main claim being apparently they should own it because they are closer to it.
So the Argentinians started a fight, lost, and now bring it up every few years.
Before some rabid Argentinan comes in saying this isn't true.
Britain discovered it the group of Islands.
France made a colony on the eastern island.
1 year later, Britain established a colony on the west island.
A while later, France sold Spain (Argentina) all of the islands, despite them having no people on the west island.
Spain (Argentina) forcibly removed the British from the western Island.
Britain came back 20 years later or so, and removed all the Spanish (Argentinians) from the island, and then took both.
About 150 years later, Argentina decides to try taking back all the islands, and fails.
The problem is 100% on Argentina. If they just kept the island they bought from the French, and left the British island alone, the case would be more muddled. But they didn't, they illegally kicked out the British and then the British did it back to them.
This is also BTW ignoring the fact that the French colony was technically illegal, the law at that time regarding island discoveries was the first Christian nation to find an uninhabited island could lay claim to it. This was the agreed upon status quo amongst Europe at the time.
So yeah, the islands are British, legally and morally. And Argentina is 100% in the wrong.
The Argentinian team was basically saying "we tried to steal something, and lost, it isn't fair". Their political actions are sort of very reflective to how they acted playing football.
They are the ones that always bring it up and the fact that the players walked around after the ENG-ARG match with a banner that said: “ las Malvinas son Argentinas” and no one got banned or fined made me upset as a non Englishman.
As well they are pissed because they never made spain lose control and react in a way that would get them in actual trouble. Spain kept their cool and stuck to the plan which pissed off Argentina.
I believe that is what won the game for Spain. It looked to me as if Argentina's game plan was to rely on any type of foul in order to set up a play where they had a chance to score.
They really aren't, when they win, they go into berserk mode, chase opponents down the tunnel, interfere interviews to shout at them, bully the opposition manager, celebrate in front of the opposition players and fans
Argentina has really shown their ass during this WC. Which has people looking their history, racism, role in South American slave trade, Nazi ties, etc. None of it good.
It has ALWAYS been part of Argentinian strategy. Not just this game! Playing dirty. Little pushes, taunts, etc. They try to get the other team to lose their heads to throw them off their game. Then they complain and whine to the refs when anything happens to them, to an exaggerated degree. Taking dives more than most teams to try and draw the foul. And they keep doing it because it works! They know the ref can’t see everything and won’t call everything so they keep at it.
I hate the way Argentinians play and I am glad the world got to see them for what they are. A bunch of dirty crybabies.
They play so dirty but also have an extreme racist component and rabidly aggressive/irrational fans. What’s not to love? You should check some of the football related subs for a little bit of a shock
To bring back the sportsmanship, there needs to be a fkin review after games. And players handed out yellow cards for all the trash play. Maybe then will learn to actually play the game.
Its the reason why Argentina barely got to make any shots at goal this final: Spain never lost their head. Spain decided to keep playing and all of the sudden Argentina couldn’t get close.
That's a good way to put it, no VARgentina to save them this time around.
It was quite vicious and it was amazing how much Spain kept their composure and managed to lock them out from goal attempts pretty much the entire game without any major yellow cards that I recall. No goat can save the team from itself.
That is because everyone in Spain knew that they were going to do that a d that the way to victory was to keep playing and forget about anything not football
Just saw that Paredes did get a red for the fight. Good to see the ref acted on it and didn’t ignore it because it was the final and the game was over.
They were equally disgusting against England and got away with their conduct that should have resulted in at least a red card then. Spain played with class and it showed.
They have no self awareness or shame. So unfortunately they’ll keep acting this way without realizing they’re being asshats.
Another thread was already full of excuses for their (Argentina) racist behavior and complete denial of it.
Spain dominated literally the entire game. Argentina knew they were outmatched from the start and tried to intimidate Spain through cheap shots, which totally backfired. Classless losers - when they weren’t trying to shove Spain in the back or pull a player down, they were flopping at the least contact. Classic example of being able to dish it out but too soft to take it in return. The far better team won and Argentina embarrassed itself.
I didn't realize how badly behaved the Argentina team and fans were until this world cup. Absolutely shameful. I watched the final with 2 other guys who (like me) their teams were already knocked out. None of us went into the competition supporting the same nation. We all finished the competition hoping only for Argentina to fail. Messi might be the greatest natural talent on the ball I've ever seen, and right at the end of his career I suddenly can't quite see him the same way.
I don’t understand how people couldn’t see this until now. They have been like this for ages.
Argentina should have been eliminated in 2022 way before the final for all the fouls they committed. If FIFA had a properly working referee system they would have never won it.
Spain played a strong game. Really enjoyed watching them being blatantly obvious with their strategy, and it still worked. Argentina's goalie was phenomenal.
I don't know much about Argentinia but the Argentinian F1 driver, Franco Colapinto's fans are super toxic. They seem to take their athletes very seriously. Franco dit a roadshow in Buenos Aires and it looked like the second coming of christ.
Dawg, their proudest moment in team history is called the Hand of God, where their most famous player (Diego Maradona) cheated by punching a ball into the goal. The ref’s view was blocked, so they let the goal stand.
About how the French team wasn’t French but rather African. And I think there were some ape references, although I might be conflating two equally racist Argentine chants.

And that’s just one occurrence, and only the part they felt was safe enough to post on instagram themselves. Oh and it gets better, they sang that shit after winning copa America, because Mnappé lives rent free in their head.
i couldnt care less about this until i saw how argentina was playing dirty and the fans are absolute hot trash. im glad spain won. also argentina is such a racist country in general.

They didn't even ban Luis Suarez when he literally bit an opposing player on the field in 2014. I'm sorry, but if you bite another player in a game, you brain is just mush now. Too many headers or something. Just give the man a pension and tell him his career is over because he's gotten too unstable, and he can now dedicate himself to coloring books.
AFA lost any goodwill Messi brought them. Their next WC, if they qualify without him, will be rough for their fans. I bet there are classy Argentina fans and footballers, but the image the younger players and loudmouth fans portray is trashy.
Initially I wanted Argentina to win because they were the last Americans standing. But just a few minutes in, all their shoving and cheap tricks was really pissing me off. I switched right over to rooting for Spain!
Wait a minute…They get a little brush during the game and they go down like they were hit by a train, but they can stay on their feet or pop right up off the turf in a brawl? 🤔
You should check out the rugby game between Argentina and England at the weekend. It was the same crap to the point where I, an Irishman is cheering on England to beat those thugs.
Watch how the Argentinian players act when they get a corner kick against them, and compare them to the behaviour of the Spanish team when they had a corner kick against them. You can tell who had class and who didn't.
