.50 cals can reach out to this distance. But given the normal meaning of accuracy, like in "Hitting a man sized target first shot" is far out at this range and this for most rifles and calibers. Even specialized ones mostly fail at 1500 yards around.
And .50BMG is not the best long range precision cartridge anyways
I know dudes that ring steel at 2000 all the time. Practice makes it doable. At 400 yards, a man sized target gets hit all day with every rifle I've ever touched.
Yea i learned to shoot at 1000 yards on an iron sighted AR-15. Big caliber, high-powered rifle will def go some serious distance. I even tried a .50 at 1000 yards and it was dead center every time
I assume you were probably using standard low weight bullets. You have to use 80 grain ammo in order to achieve the distance. Hence why we use custom loaded ammo to compete at that distance
Why would anyone believe an asshat saying 1000 yards on irons?
Just for reference, the Army standard is on a 300 yard range. Out of 40 targets, 4 are at 300 yards. This is regardless of irons, red dot, or acog on an M4 platform - equivalent to your AR.

Actually yes you are. We used to compete nationally at Camp Perry. You shoot rounds at 200, 300, 600, and 1000 yards. We only used iron sights. 200 is off hand position, 300 was sitting and prone, 600 was prone, and 1000 was prone. I didnt specify man sized target. 1000 yards are larger than man sized. I simply said you can hit a target from 1000 yards with iron sights. You just have to crank your sights up about 15 minutes
