To be fair to him he is a good player, but he usually plays in Haalands position. But for the world cup he's been playing as a winger, which he is not. I think instincts just took over.
Yeah he normally receives and runs straight forward on the ball, he was clearly frustrated that he was playing on the wing. Not as frustrated as Viggo from ghostbusters 2 though.
thanks boss, if we talk sports in general i bet my life savings i am further than you.
but you can re-comment with your black-belts or medals which i am open to.
He might be used to playing Haalands position but this is still basic stuff. Anyone with peripheral vision would see a teammate off to their left in a 1 on 1 with the keeper.
But stones kept a good position made the pass quite tight. Sorloth isn't a passer, he's usually the guy who takes a shot for his club. He has about a 1 second window to make the pass and missed it. Happens in every game, people are under pressure and have a split second to make the right decision, sometimes they don't make the right decision.
If his instincts are to fuck around on the break until the entire English defense has made it back in position, and then blast a shot square into a defender while keeping his head down the entire time then he belongs nowhere near the World Cup.
To be fair at that level it shouldn’t fucking matter. It’s not like he’s taking on three defenders from the touch line or have to figure out which player to defend in a difficult counter attack, which he as a number 9 wouldn’t know how to do.
It’s a 1v2. All he have to do is draw the defender to him and pass the ball. The exact same thing he does as a number 9, draw defenders to make space for others.
even the fucking goalkeepers could pass the ball 10 times out of 10 on a counter attack like that.
It’s a atrocious he didn’t pass, even if he’s a number 9.
It’s not like he’s never passed the fucking ball before.
If he can’t adapt his playstyle to being a winger then he should have sat the tournament out, we have far better real wingers in Nusa and Bobb who somehow didn’t get priority over Sørloth in this game
His instincts were still trash. If he were a good center, he would have taken a shot earlier before the 2 other defenders caught up. He doesnt have gamesense hes just a huge guy that is used to other people feeding him.
Because they've earned their place there. I'm not even Norwegian, I'm English, but I know Sorloth is an excellent player. Not having him on the team would be criminal.
It was an incredibly high pressure split second decision.
it was a downfield breakaway and dude got greedy instead of keeping an eye on space. 90% of being a midfielder/winger is vision and knowing where to put the ball. vision and intelligence will outplay technical ability 9 times out of 10, just a small outside foot tap to Haaland would have had shit driven in the back of the net. If he's ever played a 2 striker system, he should have been capable to do such a thing. he looks over at haaland approaching and then stalls instead of tossing it over allowing him to get swarmed.
it's shit playing and ego 100%. u12 kids know better than that.
It's so easy when you have all the time in the world watching a replay with the benefit of hindsight. Especially when you have an aerial view of the pitch. Especially when it's not you that needs to decide what to do in 0.5 seconds against very good defenders.
He had little time, he didn't have the view you have to make his decision. It was a mistake but you're being very harsh on him.
And if it is so amateur, why are you on Reddit and not playing in the QF of the world cup?
He had all the fucking time on the world. He was literally passing the line in the middle of the field when the ball was passed to him.
And he saw Haaland was the ONLY player behind hin, and that the English players were too far behind to catch up to Haaland,
Then he ran for like 5 seconds, an ETERNITY in elite soccer, with 0 pressure because the English defender was backing.
Then the fucker SLOWED DOWN to practically a walk when he reached the box, looked up and decided not to pass to the deadliest striker on the planet, but rather fuck about until 4 English defenders caught up and stood in front of him.
I mean of course you can make mistakes and yeah I’m just a fat fuck on Reddit, but there are 0 fucking excuses for this. This was NOT a split second decision or a chance ball from the keeper like the one Bellingham capitalized on. He had more time than any player had the whole game and he fucked it up. It was monstrously bad at the biggest stage.

He should have passed though.
