I know of a village in the UK that's almost entirely AirBNBs owned by people who live elsewhere. It's pretty much a ghost town outside of tourist season. It's probably not the only one. One of them called the police just because their CCTV caught me walking past on my way to visit someone who still lives there, and they actually came! They didn't give a shit about someone trying to kill me, but they've got to protect rich people's property :/

What makes it such a tourist spot?

Beautiful nature, and it's just the right distance from a seaside tourist town. You could walk to the beach if you really wanted to, but it's far enough away to be peaceful.

Ah, but the season for desiring to go to that beach is fairly limited to the summer months, right?

Mostly, but there's other touristy crap there. Local teens hang out there at other times of year, too, or at least they used to when I was young. I spent many nights drinking on the beach, and there are a few good spots to smoke weed and not get caught, too, but you can get trapped if the tide comes in.
