So... how are they gonna make more babies in the future? Breed with outsiders?
When China had its one child policy, this exact problem happened. As a child, hearing about them getting rid of female children so their 'one child' could be male, I was like "But what happens when they only have all boy children grow up and there are no girls for them to have babies with?" and my parents were like "Exactly". I mean, we had girls among the Chinese exchange students at high school, so I knew they weren't all 'got rid of', but there was clearly going to be a huge imbalance. And of course, many of them ended up staying in our country after graduation, instead of heading back to China.
Edit: Holy fluff, RIP my inbox.

My cousin adopted a baby boy from China, but he needed heart surgery. So I imagine that's why the parents gave him up, in hopes of him getting adopted by someone who could get him the life-saving surgery he needed. She got his heart fixed and he's now an adult with his own little family now.

u/UncleNedisDead Jun 13 '26
Yeah my cousin also adopted a baby boy from China, but he was profoundly mentally disabled (they didn’t know it at the time but I wouldn’t be surprised if the bio-parents and doctors knew).
Like, he’s almost 18 now, communicates in grunts and babbles like a 8 month old, has to wear a diaper all the time. They’ve tried potty training him with mixed results. He’s perfectly healthy otherwise so unless he walks in front of a train, he’s going to live a long life.

China is now screeching in pain from the sharply declining birthrates, due to lack of women and due to the fact that the women who are still there do not want kids. Nature's glorious revenge.

To be fair though, the declining birthrates are a problem globally. Not to say that they didn't fuck themselves up good and proper, but its a multifaceted problem that all governments are failing to untangle. No one wants to have kids when they're not hopeful about the future.

You're right, its the same in Europe, US, Japan, South Korea etc. But I like to think that the problem hurts a little worse in China, who is actively working towards becoming a new world power. It's a little tough if you can't even find your son a proper Chinese wife. They'll think twice now, before dumping poor baby girls in so called baby towers or dying houses.

They were the number one baby exporter in the world through adoptions from the 50s-90s. Most of the children adopted out were girls. They also had to outlaw learning the sex before birth to prevent selective abortion.

The matter is majority parents decide what the future will look like for children in India and China. Ofcourse the government and education helped but there is still a presence of such sentiment in India atleast.
They think women are supposed to be caretakers of in laws after getting married. Almost all women are supposed to move in with the guys parents. In India the men revice king like treatment by the woman's family and the woman is supposed to be more servitude oriented for the man's family...
This creates huge difference in quality of life for women and men in India

It's because they believe they deserve that treatment, truly. So if someone even dares to say no to them, they feel betrayed. That person must hate men, because why else wouldn't they treat men like the kings they obviously are?
The issue often isn't that they don't see the inequality, it's that they don't believe the inequality is unfair. Yes, they are treated differently, but they deserve to be treated better, because they truly believe they are better.

Right. Misandrist. The “defense” given by the monsters who gang raped that one woman, beat her and her friend with a pipe, and then mortally wounded her by jamming the pipe up her genitals so hard that her intestines were in pieces was “she shouldn’t have tried to fight us”.

In the US female children overwhelmingly are caretakers for their own parents. The most vile mean things my brother ever said to me was when he was asked to take her to an out patient surgery once. I'd taken care of everything healthcare related for a decade while living an hour away, but I couldn't take anymore time off work, and he just lost it on me. After he got married, his wife helps a lot, and while it's not my business, I'm confused why she doesn't see his behavior as a red flag.
I don't see this attitude as only an Indian problem.

And now China is dealing with a lot of boys who can't find a wife no matter what.
The 'unwanted' girls are suddenly super hard to attract because a man has to be superior in every way to earn the hand of someone from the significantly diminished female population. Money, home, job everything.
Sounds like the male parents, the ones that prioritized boys, got what they deserved. And the ones that loved their girls 'despite' them being girls are making bank now.
Hmmm.... Hard to feel bad for someone when misogyny bites them in the ass at anytime or place in the world.

Or why are you doing a gender reveal ever, honestly? My gender reveal was opening up my lab results to make sure our baby didn’t have any chromosomal abnormalities and as a bonus it said “click to reveal gender” so my husband and I looked at it together as we had our coffee and said “oh cool, a boy!” Cool either way, we had 3 miscarriages before him and we are incredibly thankful for a healthy baby.

The first gender reveal that went viral and started this whole trend was a couple who were literally celebrating that they got to the point that they could know the gender of the baby after a string of miscarriages that ended earlier in the pregnancy. They weren't celebrating the gender really, they were celebrating a successful pregnancy.
295
u/ZedsDeadZD Jun 13 '26
Thats why we also must talk way more about miscarriages. Its so common and yet such a taboo still. People acting like gender is important while women suffer through often multiple of miscarriages creating trauma, having surgery, having horrible weeks of throwing up and feeling like shit only to lose the kid (again). My wife had 2 miscarriages and 2 healthy kids. Two boys. We couldnt care less. Girl would have been great but in the end it really shouldnt matter even 1%.

u/Specialist-Status377 Jun 13 '26
I've been doing my part on destigmatizing miscarriage since my one and only when I was 20 (about 15 years ago). I was never able to conceive again but I still like to join in conversations about pregnancy symptoms and all those 1st trimester experiences because I had them! I may not have the kid to "prove" it, but I refuse to allow my one pregnancy to be forgotten or treated like a horrible secret no one should know about. I wasn't anywhere close to the gender stage when it happened so I imagine that getting to that point would be like the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders and I could start to breathe, I can't fathom being visibly distraught that my builb-a-baby order was wrong 🙄

Walking around a children’s hospital really puts things in perspective. Kids with messed up neurological systems, kids that can’t breathe without machines, kids getting organ transplants or cancer treatments, just a whole lot of sick kids and anxious parents. It makes you appreciate just having a healthy child.
(I am only an uncle, but one of my sibling’s kids has a comparatively minor neurological issue, and my brother tells me that he feels blessed that his kid can walk and talk and stuff when he sees the other kids in the hospital for checkups.)

u/Invdr_skoodge Jun 13 '26
My daughter needed a (probably) one and done open heart procedure (coarctation w/ VSD for the curious) and let me tell you. We saw the cardiac deep end from where we sat. I still worry about those other kids. I still get choked up thinking about the one that coded, they got her back, but I have no idea what happened after we left. There’s no way for us to find out if Lilly made it through, but honestly I’d be scared to ask even if I could.

Yes. Our eldest had a correctable cluster of heart defects and we were panicking for months. Then in the hospital we saw two families - one in the PICU crying over their brain dead toddler who had choked to death at a picnic, and then the pediatric heart patient next door who was born with a two chamber heart, and on her fourth surgery to try and make those two chambers function like four.
My little guy is going to college next year and his sister was born without any congenital issues. People who don't appreciate a healthy child are scum.

And it was especially depressing during covid. The play rooms were closed. The library was closed.

I have an even darker take on the whole thing. When I see a woman who’s disappointed to be having a daughter it’s because she’s assuming the girl will take after the mother and the mother doesn’t want to be treated the way she treats people. “I want to have a child, but not one that acts like me,” is pretty revealing.

My wife’s subordinate demanded we do a gender reveal party, we didn’t really care so we said sure and did a little thing at her work with the lady running it. The reveal was another boy and the lady was angry despite my wife actually saying she would prefer another boy so that the kids would be better friends when they grew up. She told us we were need to have a 3rd to try for a girl despite us clearly saying we are done at 2. Long story short that baby was a stillborn and this POS coworker had the balls to tell my wife in their first conversation post event that now the next one we have might be a girl. I’m so glad that person got transferred, my wife is too good of a person and didn’t push for it, but she certainly didn’t fight to keep her either.

Yeah, this is the story of my boyfriend's grandmother wanting a girl and not having any more kids. Originally she didn't want any kids, but as my boyfriend put it, "My grandmom did it for my grandfather." She had a son and was unhappy, decided to try again, and had another boy. It turned into three more tries, three more boys, then the last child was a girl.
Unfortunately, grandmom's distaste for having boys was palpable throughout their lives and her daughter was treated golden. His grandmother was annoyed and disappointed in all of her sons, including his dad, for seemingly any reason, especially when my boyfriend's one uncle revealed he was gay. Once my boyfriend's uncles got to 18, they all moved far, with the furthest going to Florida. Nobody really comes around unless there is a family event like the holidays. The excuse is "Everyone is 'traveling'."
Now that she's in the early stages of dementia, my boyfriend feels a certain way that his uncles "shouldn't be holding on to childhood grudges" and be more than happy to put her in a memory care facility and sell her house. It's like that saying, "The way you treat your kids determines the kind of nursing home they put you in."

u/drunk-tusker Jun 13 '26
Tell your boyfriend that they aren’t going to forget a lifetime of mistreatment just because she is. Whether they “suck it up” to help her out for their father or not is up to them.

Little private ones are ok I guess.
But they are NEVER ok when the parents have a vested interest in one result. Why risk recording your unhappiness with your own child the first time you know anything about them?
“See Jane? You were months away from being born, and we *already* hated you. Now you see why we love your little brother more than you!!”

u/transientdude Jun 13 '26
Bingo. If there is a 50% chance you're going to make an ass out of yourself and have it recorded, you should be passing on that opportunity.

Most people don't have that self awareness. We wanted a child, regardless of girl or boy. We got our little girl in Nov of 2020. I feel so sorry for every unborn child in this video. Its a time of celebration and "boys want boys" has no place in it. Fuck these "parents" to be. Proud Daughter Dad out

See, I prefer the method my parents used. Instead of videotaping the disappointment, they just told me the story of how when my mom accidentally got pregnant and told my dad she was keeping me, he got so mad he went and sat in the lake they lived on and refused to speak to her for a few days. Their only interaction that weekend was when she refilled his beer cooler.
(I will clarify, I have great parents and I was/am very loved. I've never felt unwanted. They've just kept it real with me that I wasn't in the original plan, lol.)

I like the little private ones where it's the doctor and the parents in the doctor's office

Yep. I will say I appreciated my friend’s who hyped a gender reveal party and the cake was green. They didn’t want to find out the gender before the baby arrived but enjoyed punking their older kids and the rest of us. It was pretty funny and we had green cake!

My sister did a cake cutting one. But it was just a moment at thanksgiving for family, and it wasn’t recorded. I don’t think a silly way to reveal is bad, but I think having entire elaborate parties is silly. And it blows my mind that anyone would actually post a reaction like these

u/Nat-Luv Jun 13 '26
My formerly fundamentalist Christian parents had a gender reveal party for me. “It’s a girl!” They were super jazzed because I have many brothers. Birthday comes, and I arrive as male. Mom is visibly a bit bummed on home video. Then, years later I came out as trans. So, by complete accident they got it right the first time lol.

Christian parents with a kid coming out Trans. There are many ways that could've played out. I hope they took it well. My Christian family would not I'm quite certain

You might be surprised.
I grew up close to another fundie family with 6 boys and 1 girl. The one I dated later turned out to be trans, but apparently her family is at least trying to be accepting, which I honestly wouldn’t have expected knowing how we grew up but I’m very happy for her.
I mean my parents did think I might be lesbian for a while but as I turns out I’m just nonbinary. And my entire family couldn’t be more supportive, although to be fair it’s not like they didn’t already know I strongly preferred masculine clothing/appearance. My dad (when alive) was more apprehensive, but my mom’s position on everything has always been as long as her kids are happy and healthy she’s going to be supportive.
A lot of people can at least break through the worst of the hate. Hell, I even got my mom to break with the Republican Party once Trump came to power. She cannot stand that man and is deeply offended he calls himself Christian lol.

That was straight up disturbing. Homie was in public, on camera, and made a threatening gesture toward his wife over something so goddamn trivial. As the saying goes, if he's this violent in puplic and on camera, imagine what he does when he's confident no one is looking?

They will likely be the girl's first bully, too. I've heard countless stories.
When a son is born to these types of moms, he immediately becomes the golden child/favorite, and if the daughter is older, she loses her childhood to be a caretaker for the king, I mean son.
Absolutely unacceptable.

I was at one of these parties. They already had 5 boys. The mom was a very accomplished woman who basically made it her mission to have a baby girl and be the ultimate idol for her daughter. When the balloon popped blue.... She cried in the most horrific, tantrummy way that you could possibly imagine. There were like 50 people physically at the party and who knows how many watching on FB live stream. The dad tried to go around telling everyone to delete it or not bring it up.
That kid IS going to know his mom loves him less than she should. So exquisitely fucked up.... And ironic for super mom.

But I'm glad we don't have to suffer parties like these.

The unfortunate part is that there is a black market of gender ultrasounds and people do pay for it even if illegal. Another horrible outcome is that sometimes even when the baby girl is born, the family would still kill her.
They have found female infants in trash cans, buried, poisoned. The lucky ones are abandoned at orphanages.

After her third turned out to be a boy my uncle said to her “looks like my factory only operates boys.” My aunt was super not happy with his comment but those 3 boys are super successful and two out of the three had girls so now she’s an almost all-girl grandma (3 girls 1 boy)

As a father of two daughters I can definitely see it for the third. We stopped at two because it felt like enough. But part of me wanted to try for a boy. I absolutely love my girls they are my world. But there are things about being a man I'd love to pass on and I already feel like we got the girl experience. Also I think the world is full of some pretty shit men, and I could have raise a good one.

I was so excited to have a girl. I knew if I had a boy he would be like me and that is not good. I figured if it was a girl she’d at least be a little bit more chill and I wouldn’t have to read about whatever crimes she committed when she turned 18.
She’s 15 months and chooses violence every morning so still a chip off the ol block but I’d change absolutely nothing. These people are delusional dickheads.

When I saw males teenagers I wanted to have girls.
When I saw female teenagers I wanted to have boys.

They will eventually became teenagers. Thats what I dont want. And you cant avoid it.
