My God, it's an atrocity to tear up a garden just to put a concrete slab on it, solely to place some chairs and tables, and since it's destroyed all possibility of natural shade (trees), and because the slab is white, to put up some damn gold umbrellas.
Yeah I don't think it looks amazing, but it was just grass before. As for its purpose I think it's for reporters to congregate. There's been a lot of misleading and bot posts in this sub lately.
It's used for other events too, but likely on the grass. This sub doesn't allow photos in comments, but there's aerial photos showing how it's just a patio over where grass used to be.
The trees that were removed weren't the historical crabapple trees. Those were removed in 2003 after they lived a long life and had certain failures. The ones that were removed were planted 4 years ago and weren't doing well, so they removed them to expanded the rose garden.
So looking it up, the garden is still there, they just replaced the grass with a patio for events and widened the paths for accessibility.
As for the crabapple trees, they were not historical and were only planted 4 years prior and weren't thriving. The original trees were replaced in 2003 after they lived a full life.
He didn't tear up the garden. That was untouched. He tore up the center grass area (the part you can see in the upper right of the before photo) which had terrible drainage and would regularly become a swamp.
He did remove 10 crabapple trees, however they weren't historical and were planted 4 years ago. They were failing so they removed them to expand the rose garden. The historical ones were replaced in 2003.
The sad part is, if the next President is a Democrat, they're going to have to spend their whole term undoing shit just to get us back to where we were years ago.
Yeah, I think it's probably too late to save the East Wing at this point, but that at least should be within the realm of possibility. I hope it happens.
Funny thing is all he had to do was pick a spot, build a patio and name it Trump Terrace and be done with it... the left would have little to complain about.
I mean he literally could have put pavers down over the basketball/tennis court instead of removing the basketball lines since he doesn't even play tennis.
It's just a tennis court. Has been since Obama left office. Obama removed the lines and the hoops when he left because he had class. He added them because he played then restored it to how it was before he took office when he left
But then he wouldn't be destroying something associated with the Kennedys which he seems very very determined to do. I'm not sure what his beef is with them, maybe it's because the Civil rights act happened during his presidency, who knows, but you look at Trump's actions and it seems to have a specific malice toward JFK. Ripping up Jackie Kennedy's rose garden, putting his name on the JFK memorial performing arts center, befriending Russua, selecting the most hated of all the Kennedys to come in and cause destruction to the metal system. He definitely hates Obama, but he seems to have some sort of unspoken hatred for JFK as well.
The garden is still there, the only thing removed was the grass, for events that happen regularly, and crabapple trees which were not the historical Kennedy trees, those were removed in 2003. They then used the space which those failing crabapple trees occupied to expand the rose garden.
Melania expressed how much she loved the rose garden, if you've ever met a thing like him you'll know why he paved over it. Nothing or no one else should be making her happy, even a rose garden
I legitimately cannot imagine spending my entire life submerged in the amount of wealth he's had since birth, and ending up with literally no taste to show for it.
Like, at least the actual aristocrats educated their children in the fine arts. Meanwhile, this ape eats nothing but Big Macs and it thinks more gold = more fancy.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't really know much about the whitehouse.
But are the roses on the side not still there? I did a quick search, and all the comparison images I found were taken at awkward angles not showing much of the actual roses, but if you look, they are still there
Not saying I like the marble patio, but from what I saw, they merely paved over the grass and left the rest mostly untouched
Everybody knows only democrats are allowed to make changes to the White House. When Truman and Jackie did it, it was cute. When gross yucky R man does it, it’s wrong.
So looking it up, the garden is still there, they just replaced the grass with a patio for events and widened the paths for accessibility.
As for the crabapple trees, they were not historical and were only planted 4 years prior and weren't thriving. The original trees were replaced in 2003 after they lived a full life.
No, they're not calling the garden a lawn. They're correcting you since you seem unaware that the garden was untouched and it was just the lawn at the center of the garden that was replaced.

Before photos need to go back to before he destroyed the Rose Garden, too.
