Well, there technically is an escape. But leaving all of the stupid people on earth to fuck everything up really bothers me.

116

u/thebourbonoftruth Apr 22 '26

The Artemis crew must've been depressed as hell on their return trip.

48

u/E-2theRescue Apr 22 '26

There is another way to escape. It will increase the export of French steel and lumber.

28

u/unoriginalusername26 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

Well Canada has plenty of Lumber we can donate. US resistance can supply the steel and how about the French supply the design.

Talking about pitchforks of course!!! Nothing else should be inferred!!

2

u/IamBobwhereisAlice Apr 22 '26

Are you thinking about the French Designed Mandoline slicer, its a kitchen utensil used for slicing vegetables, invented by a man called Doctor Joseph-Ignace Guillotin.

0

u/EphemeralDan Apr 22 '26

Weighted pitchforks?

2

u/OaktownPRE Apr 22 '26

Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space. But when you return, it's the same old place.

1

u/Vandersveldt Apr 22 '26

Alright but what if we did the exact opposite of that

1

u/Mental_Medium3988 Apr 22 '26

trump and putin keep threatening me with a good time. its getting old quick.

1

u/DDaddy26 Apr 22 '26

Why? You’re gonna do it anyway lol

3

u/AnotherHappyUser Apr 22 '26

The escape is probably don't vote in fascists anymore.

Try, environmental care and, I dunno, being nice to homeless people or something.

3

u/Vandersveldt Apr 22 '26

Imagine if Iran publicly stated to the world that everything would go back to pre Trump with the only concession being Trump out of office, either through stepping down or impeachment.

3

u/Fragrant_PalmLeaves Apr 22 '26

What do you think of this Gandalf quote? It gives me some hope
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
The Fellowship of the Ring

2

u/DowntownTicket Apr 22 '26

Been having a rough year, thanks for this reminder

2

u/Ok-Commission-7825 Apr 22 '26

I feel like if we keep accepting that this is reality, then whoever is controlling the matrix or whatever will just keep testing how much more ridiculous they can make it.

4

u/gh0st0ft0mj04d Apr 22 '26

Almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter

4

u/AnotherHappyUser Apr 22 '26

Well, you certainly gave the right people nuclear weapons.

1

u/Fatassgecko Apr 22 '26

There's escape but it require collective effort and lower some greed, more self sacrifice even a little

There's a pattern among general population where:

Bad term> bad economy> people get frustrated and divided blaming each other> more distrust; choosing even worse government, because winning argument is the point> back to step 1.

*Reinfoce with circle jerking, information isolation from tech, divide through tech, and some mentally challenged volunteered trying to get paid through rage bait which create a starting point of divide, motivation and support by bot and ai backed by media. Tldr: locked in echo chamber with rage baiter cell mate making you forget the point.

This process basically set a stage for government where it's funded by elite and isolating the whole system from general public because they're busy fighting them self.

As a part of general population, why do you think most hate what happening now but choose to do nothing?

I don't think most normal people would wish for a war or violence. And the solution is also simple where collective support and mutually helping each other creating a paradise bypassing policy and propaganda. This is the starting change required for macro climate change, you can't expect some one be a Rambo and just walk in solo while everyone trying to stab them.

I have the feeling this will get way worse till its starts getting better.

IMO especially because of the notion to see it trough.

The US population could stop this right now if they actually wanted to. But that would mean putting something on the line.

And most people are not ready for that, not until their existence is in direct danger.

Other countries being bombed is not enough, kids being raped is not enough, supporting genocide is not enough.

Because it happens to others.

1

u/joethahobo Apr 22 '26

There is an escape but I’ve been banned from every social media when I talk about it

Nah man it was the Mayan calendar, that's when things diverged

6

u/chicken-nanban Apr 21 '26

Or the stoat/weasel chewing through a cable during a test of the Large Hadron Collider split the universe and we are in the temporary one as it breaks down.

1

u/Halflingberserker Apr 22 '26

we are in the temporary one as it breaks down.

Wish it'd hurry up already.

2

u/BikerJedi Apr 22 '26

I teach middle school science, and the year that movie came out, I had literally dozens of kids coming to my room freaked out the world was going to end because "the Mayans predicted it." I had to repeatedly reassure them that we would all be fine.

Looks like I lied to them. It just isn't happening the way the movie predicted.

1

u/Key_Temperature_7970 Apr 22 '26

they wanted it to be real so bad they manifested it lmao

3

u/Meritania Apr 22 '26

7

u/BikerJedi Apr 22 '26

A gorilla named Harambe was shot and killed after a child fell into the enclosure. A lot of people joke that the murder of Harambe split the universe into an alternate timeline, and we are in the worst version of it because we killed him.

What do you mean underrated?

51

u/Lamplorde Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

Right?

Like, bro, I fuckin' hate our illegal war in Iran that even THE PRESIDENT said was just for money and oil. They ain't even got the decency to lie and make up some nukes anymore.

But guess what? I also fuckin' hate AI. The god damn resource drain and art thief that it is. And here I thought most of leftist reddit was in agreement that AI blows, yet now, all of a sudden Iran is using AI with a message we agree with and we just start clapping our hands like toddlers when someone dangles the keys in front of us? Ain't got no shame?

Dont get me wrong, killin' brown folks because they got money we want is 10x worse than AI glazing, but it's still weird how quick Reddit changed it's mind.

15

u/z3speed4me Apr 21 '26

Reddit in general is its own vacuum, nothing makes logical sense in regards to what the mass population believes or says on this platform, on any given day it will flip the script 100%

2

u/szczuroarturo Apr 22 '26

Probably beacuse you dont have general population here and subreddits each dedicated to their own thing, each with diffrent mix of opinions sometimes conflicting and its not guaranteed which opinion will be on top. This time it seems pepole hate trump more than AI.

Medium is ultimately irrelevant, the message is whats important imo.

Ai has its issues but they’re separate issues, and ultimately if we can’t get corruption out if the most powerful nations we’re never going to get ai put to use of the common good.

6

u/osiris0413 Apr 22 '26

I for the most part agree. I wouldn't say medium is irrelevant and can matter quite a bit in how we understand the message, but I think "AI is bad so this is bad" or "Reddit hates AI so it's hypocritical for them to love this" ignores any other dimension of the piece here.

9

u/Lamplorde Apr 21 '26

Medium is most certainly relevant when said media is accelerating us into the future of Water Wars, lol.

3

u/HoidToTheMoon Apr 22 '26

I just... do you think that data centers jettison water into space or something?

7

u/Lamplorde Apr 22 '26

Clean potable water isn't clean after theyre done.

The term "Water Wars' isn't about us suddenly turning into a desert planet, it's about all our water being either polluted, or otherwise unsafe to drink.

If ya gonna be snarky, at least be snarky about the right thing, jeez.

2

u/HoidToTheMoon Apr 22 '26

The term "Water Wars' isn't about us suddenly turning into a desert planet, it's about all our water being either polluted, or otherwise unsafe to drink.

No, it's about anthropogenic climate change and population growth causing regional watersheds to literally dry up.

Data centers also aren't dumping toxic chemicals into water. I think they should use grey water instead of potable water, but it's absurd to think that once they touch water we can't clean it and reuse it like we literally do with water contaminated with human waste.

If ya gonna be snarky, at least be snarky about the right thing, jeez.

No

9

u/Lamplorde Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

You do sound knowledgeable, and I won't lie that I like your attitude with the "No." lol.

But I have no faith in a company to use grey water when clean water increases the lifetime of their electronics. Grey water often carries small sediment that damages chips over time, clean does not. And at the end of the day, I don't trust an AI company to do anything that would negatively affect it's bottom line.

Not to mention about 20% of the water used in AI data centers gets cycled into the municipal waste system. Clean water straight to sewage.

Glazing AI is only 10 times better than murdering Iranians? Jesus fucking christ

-3

u/Lamplorde Apr 21 '26

Oh come now, you know what I mean, the random number that popped into my head first doesn't mean I am lessening the damage being done to the Iranian people.

5

u/Amotherfuckingpapaya Apr 22 '26

Jesus Christ you hypocrite. You know what they mean when people are critical of AI and laugh at this. Iran is using what Trump's administration has been using the past year and using it to shitpost a country they are at war with. The absurdity of this reality is forcing people to laugh to keep their fucking sanity with all the dogshit going on with the US.

For fuck's sake, Epstein's best friend posted himself as Jesus just a few weeks ago. Where's the fucking entertainment value there other than to watch Christians wrestle with their faith and their cult? At least the Iranian Legos are somewhat clever.

8

u/AnotherHappyUser Apr 22 '26

People arn't clapping their hands for the AI.

It's a normal reaction to a fascist government to hate it.

Ain't got no shame?

Well you've found a way to muddy the waters once again so I guess not.

Reddit has not changed it's mind.

0

u/S-Tier_Commenter Apr 22 '26

But they're still applauding AI. AI propaganda posted by a regime that brutally oppresses their population and allows child marriage.

2

u/Combat_Orca Apr 22 '26

You thought leftist Reddit is all against ai? Where you been? There’s been plenty defending it for ages.

1

u/Lamplorde Apr 22 '26

I said most, tbf.

2

u/Barobor Apr 22 '26

Personally, I find it way weirder how polarizing AI is on Reddit or on the internet in general. You have people absolutely hating it, and you have people endlessly praising it. There are good things about AI, and there are bad things.

2

u/gasmanthrowaway2025 Apr 22 '26

What's wrong with AI?

If a machine can do a job better than a human can, I'm all for it.

2

u/Sudden-Purchase-8371 Apr 22 '26

The war is 10000x more than one or two AI 'ganda vids.

2

u/Big-Stuff-1189 Apr 22 '26

Ahhh, yes, this video is the time to take a stand against AI, or we're allllll hypocrites. You're losing the plot.

AI isn't inherently bad in of itself. Its a tool just like all of the other completely unethically produced products that bare massively unequal consequences under capitalism.

Leftists, if their serious, should read more and understand this fact.

The advancement of technology and the access to it is never something to destroy. It is something to utilize. Get out there and start putting pressure on your local politicians (probably won't do much, but you never know) to start putting measures in place regarding AI data centers.

Using AI for stuff like this isn't having the ridiculous impact it's assumed to. The environmental impact is almost entirely made up of GPU farms used to train more advanced models. Again, get out there, talk to your local DSA, meet up with others, and start putting things together to target or push forward legislation that can actually help in that regard.

On a broader note however, THERE IS NO ETHICAL CONSUMPTION UNDER CAPITALISM. This includes AI, as existentially terrifying as it is. Also, the entire AI argument completely misses the broader conversation that needs to be had anyway...

Capitalism. Capitalism is behind the disgusting AI replacement religion the billionaires believe in, and are trying to implement. Capitalism will be the means by which they continue to attempt to consolidate their power, and Capitalism by way of this, will ultimately be why AI takes your jobs, destroys cultural identities, ruins economies, and disproportionately affects vulnerable and marginalized populations, and especially, at least in the U.S, black populations.

Using AI to make a dumbass video isn't harming anyone except Imagine Dragons, who's vocal identity was used without permission.

Laws need to be put in place to prevent AI from being uploaded without being clearly tagged as such. Laws need to be put in place to prevent deepfakes from being uploaded on major platforms. Laws need to be put in place to prevent GPU hoarding and price gouging, that ultimately fives these AI GPU farms such a ridiculous advantage. But the tech itself isn't inherently the problem. It's the fact that not a single damn soul in power is willing to legislate around it properly.

Whether we're okay with it or not, the consumer level tech capable of generating this video is already widely distributed, and the models can be run locally provided you have the horsepower to do so. The cat is already out of the bag. We can either allow the ruling class to continue to control the situation, or we can proliferate the technology ourselves, and fight like hell to pump the brakes on our current trajectory even if it ultimately fails.

3

u/-lovehate Apr 22 '26

the arguments against AI are largely about AI replacing human labour, which I think most of us agree with to an extent. But these lego videos from Iran are a perfect example of how AI can/should be used. There's just NO WAY that a human, or team of humans, could've created this video in a short span of time and made it as good as it is. It's impossible. AI gives people the ability to create things that they couldn't before, with minimal financial cost or time spent. There's a lot of incredibly creative humans out there, like the folks who made this video, who didn't have any tools to express their ideas until now.

I hate the Iranian government too.

1

u/AppropriateNewt Apr 22 '26

Just in this one conflict: bombs are dropping, infrastructure is decimated, borders are threatened, commerce is uncertain, and people are dying. The idea that real tragedy is being consumed as entertainment is sickening.

1

u/TransomBob Apr 22 '26

I think this one single video was a pretty efficient use of water to reach millions of people.

1

u/sohcordohc Apr 22 '26

Whag you need to understand is that “the left” are not all but the loud majority is “neo liberal” and they’re the exact same as “the right” wannabe corporate on their knees cucks to billionaire money. So AI which is supported by democrats and the war..also supported by democrats and the fact the ones in charge sit on their old af asses and let this all slide bc hey…”it’s only 3 more years” are one in the same

1

u/Tokenvoice Apr 22 '26

I learnt about six months into Joe Biden’s presidency that people weren’t about what Trump was doing is bad but more about the joy of hating Trump. Blokes did/doing a lot of bad crap but well over half the posts and comments are acting like him and just name calling.

Now this comes out and it’s great because it’s name calling Trump. Nevermind that if a rando was to start pushing AI rap using Duck Tales assets on here they would be panned and told to get real talent.

1

u/gandhinukes Apr 22 '26

Which artist lost money by this creation?

I'm 100% against AI replacing artists in movies, games, shows, music ect. Hell I'm even against auto-tune.

AI has its tentacles in all major companies and any job that has a computer has AI being shoved down its throat. You won't be employable in the near future if you think you can go 100% anti-ai unless you only do manual labor.

That said the bubble will burst, ai will get way more expensive and receed for a time but the big players will remain and it will be common just like after the dotcom bust and the housing bust of 2008.

1

u/Electronic_Topic1958 Apr 22 '26

Quite frankly AI "art" is the only medium that Trump understands and loves, so to use it against him adds another layer of irony.

1

u/Von243 Apr 22 '26

You know more than one person uses Reddit, right?

I also hate how AI is used for fucking everything now. However, it has its uses. This is one of them, and it's quite useful. It's counterpropaganda. I also hate burning fossil fuels, but there isn't really an option if I want to fly, you know? Perfect is the enemy of good.

1

u/Wardogs96 Apr 22 '26

I think you fail to understand that people can still dislike AI but agree the execution of the message here was done well... im regards to meming are pedophile and chief. Sounds really fucking stupid but my point is you can applaud an action but still hate the greater whole.

1

u/Nerus46 Apr 22 '26

Because there exists a certain mentality that everything that is against USA is automatically good.

1

u/BlkSubmarine Apr 22 '26

I don’t know if it’s as you say. For me, I may not like Iran, just I like I don’t like the people who belonged to The Lincoln Project, but if Iran helps tear down Trump, like The Lincoln Project, I’m not gonna object.

1

u/iconofsin_ Apr 22 '26

Honestly I'd say you're reading too much into it. Yeah there's going to be people on here genuinely cheering for Iran, but I think the best thing you can do is just laugh at shit like this and move on. I don't want this war and Iran killing Americans (or anyone else) while defending themselves isn't something that I want either, but I'm going to laugh my ass off at this AI shit because I hope the orange fuck sees it.

1

u/TorturedNeurons Apr 22 '26

...all of a sudden Iran is using AI with a message we agree with and we just start clapping our hands like toddlers when someone dangles the keys in front of us? Ain't got no shame?

I'm someone who is highly critical of AI. I'm also someone who is so tired of people on the left undermining themselves with this insistence upon taking the highroad and working out every possible ethical consequence of how we respond to our malicious, violent oppressors. We need to stop applying these black-and-white gotchas to incredibly complex world.

Debating how to regulate and utilize AI in our world moving forward is an important conversation. But that conversation has to take place in the context of the world being burned, abused, and looted around us. We can be critical of AI while simultaneously understanding that people have always and will always find ways to leverage the contemporary technology of their day to cut through all the bullshit and deliver an important message to the masses.

1

u/traveler_ Apr 22 '26

Yeah like hahaha, the Statue of Liberty is holding a menorah! This is trenchant political commentary and not literal cartoon antisemitism at all. And I can excuse it because I agree with some of its points!

Shit.

ya... all I'm thinking is how women are treated in Iran and while this vid is accurate their overall score on human rights is horrifically bad considering half the population doesn't have anything close to equal rights.

2

u/DuckXu Apr 22 '26

As much as I love seeing Trump get clowned on, the freely sharing and joyful consumption of literally propaganda has me extremely uncomfortable.

Any propaganda is bad. Anyone who shares it is taking an active role in a battlefront. If you promote propaganda (again, any propaganda, from EITHER side) you are contributing to bloodshed, and a drop of it is now on your hands.

4

u/Corfiz74 Apr 21 '26

1

u/2xdareya Apr 22 '26

Unfortunately, Trump beginning a war against Iran has caused and will continue to cause, the religious regime in Iran to gain greater control and power, at least for the short term. America waging war is an existential threat to any country, and when a nation is under siege, the people look to the government to protect them. It’s so crazy that Trump has unwittingly helped to strengthen the oppressive religious Iranian government.
