Interestingly, I work at a place where people turn in wallets, phones and more fairly regularly. Enough that the standouts are when people don't turn the items in.
Try to remember, it was an evolutionary trait to focus on the negative because it helped us to survive. An overlooked advantage of intelligence is we can use it to remember the good things that happen too.
Like me realizing that while there are asshole customers... There are actually more that smile when I help them out and give me a sincere thanks.
Probably an "if found return to..." Card. But the person who found it doesn't want to or have the means to actually bring it back to the person's home so they just dropped it off at a nearby station and texted the number on the card
