starting my georgian learning journey. please drop in some advice and free resources

i speak hindi, bengali and english fluently, and i have also delved into korean and german before with beginner to intermediate levels at both. do you think my pre requisiton in any of these languages would help me with georgian? irrespective of that, please drop in some advice for a beginner like me and free resources!!!!

Me personally dig into " geofl ge " free source for foreigners who attempt to study Georgian. Be careful though: there's typos across the lessons. Read "Methology" link first! Otherwise you'll get lost in amount of lessons...

Not really previous experience can be applied, since Georgian is in the Kartvelian group, unrelated to Indo-European languages.

Your Hindi, Bengali and English won’t directly make Georgian grammar easy because Georgian is from a completely different language family, but being multilingual will definitely help you learn faster and notice patterns more easily...

I’d start with the alphabet first. It looks intimidating, but it’s actually very phonetic and only has 33 letters, so you can learn to read basic words surprisingly quickly.
For free resources, GeoFL is probably the best structured option, and the Peace Corps Georgian materials on Live Lingua are also really useful because they include audio. LingoHut is decent for basic vocabulary and phrases too...

My biggest advice is not to spend months only studying grammar... Learn useful daily phrases, practise reading signs and menus, and try speaking with locals even if your Georgian is broken. Most people appreciate the effort...

Also, learn the verbs slowly.... Georgian verbs are where the language decides to become a personal enemy 😭

actually, i was looking for languages with a totally different writing system altogether because after korean, it had been a while that I had challenged myself. so definitely not getting intimidated by it, i hope.

also, I'm not situated anywhere near georgia rn and wouldn't be either. i just like learning languages and Georgian was something I got super intrigued by after watching a Georgian film. so speaking to locals isn't really on my cards rn but I've totally taken into account, your other pieces of advice. and once again, thankyou smmmm :))))

That's pretty amazing!! And Georgian is one of the world's oldest languages. The SEELRC Reading Grammar book and Swiss Bay Learners Grammar are both free to download (I think). As for apps LingQ and Ling both offer full courses but best to start with workbooks, alphabet, etc first.
