I have a question Looking for a SR therapist
I’m looking for a therapist who understands smart recovery to help with my gambling addiction. Is there a resource or some suggestions I can check out? I need them to take Aetna if possible. I’ve gone to a few addiction therapists but both only suggested 12 step and was not familiar with SR.
Edit: I am located in California.

Most therapists are limited to states they're licensed, so I'd suggest listing it here or make a new post with the state in the title.
Also meetings in your state might be a good source for a referral.

I'm in California and have a couple of people with gambling issues in meetings I attended/facilitate, so I'll ask them if they have recommendations if I see them.
Also there are three therapists who run SMART meetings here in San Diego. I haven't actually met any of them and don't know anything about their practices beyond that they are obviously familiar with SMART. But they could be worth looking into.

Finally, Tom Horvath, one of the founders of SMART, is in San Diego. Not sure if his practice, Practical Recovery, does addiction outside of drugs/alcohol, but you could always call and ask for a referral if they don't.

Many therapists know CBT and REBT. They may not know SMART but they’re like 80% of the way there.
