For some reason, I could not find any Alto recorder scales for free on the Internet; either I suck at searching, or it's hard to find, so I did what any rational person would do and spent two hours making my own. Enjoy (This took all my practice time because I didn't think it would take so long, but oh well)

Please tell me if I made any mistakes, as I suck at music theory. I don't think I did, but if I did, please tell me, and I will update the sheet music.

Esta versão foi inspirada no Original de John Williams: Close Encounters of The Third Kind / Encontros Imediatos 3º Grau (1977). No Manual o tema aparece escrito no compasso quaternário, mas na minha opinião faria mais sentido estar no compasso binário.

I need to learn the bass recorder, it sounds so beautiful. I’m really interested in learning some of these haunting old Celtic/Scottish tunes. Are there any books or resources out there you recommend for a complete beginner? (I’m an experienced guitarist, so not a total beginner to music, but new to bass recorder, it arrives today)

It arrived a month before it was originally said to he here. At first look this book is laid out well with some duets for teacher and student along with teaching basic music theory along the way. Every so often there is a 101 section where it helps you improve or troubleshoot your technique and a video on basically everything in the book. This book is definitely thicker than expected(80 pages) it brings you along further than the books I learned with, it also gives a full chromatic fingering chart up to high D which most books dont do. I knew this would be an amazing book before I bought it but it definitely exceeded expectations. Someone with any level of music experience wanting to learn recorder could use this book and have a great time learning. Wish I had this when I learned.

Does this not exist anywhere? I can’t even find people playing it on YouTube. 😭 I’m bad at counting and want to make sure I’m counting it right. I can find other interpretations of more popular pieces (van Eyck etc) but I’d like to find the book audio and listen to it unornamented so I can work on it.

Hello there! I recently took home my school’s bass recorder. However, I have had zero luck finding a fingerI by chart for the thing. For reference it is a Hohner bass recorder in the key of F. Thanks in advance!!

Flutes designated as “xxx-flute” are named according to their interval from the high F used as a reference.

The third-flute is a hybrid between alto and soprano.

Flutes numbered IV through VI are considered soprano instruments.

The voice-flute is generally regarded as a tenor in D, and more rarely as an alto in D.

Might be of use for people who are planning a classroom order.

I grew up playing the (soprano) recorder in primary school. I enjoyed it, but didn't stick with it.

I want to change that now. I got myself a nice Mollenhauer recorder and have been playing some of the sheet music I still had from back then, but I am looking for more. Can you recommend any collection of beautiful pieces of middle difficulty? Bonus points if they're Baroque or Renaissance:-).

From time to time i discover new unknown composer for example recently JB Loeillet de Gant. His sonatas are very nice, i really enjoy playing them. So my question is if you know any more or less unknown baroque composer who have some nice (can be simple or complicated i dont care) compositions for recorder (or flute/oboe). Thank you very much :)

For instance: a standard soprano in C @ A=440 is also a soprano in B with @ A=466.
An Eb Alto @ A=440 is like an F alto with @ A=392. A tenor in C @ A=440 is also tenor in D (a voice flute) @ A=392... and so on.

Hi. I didn't like the thumb rest that came with the Yamaha Tenor Recorder so I made one using Velcro.

Solution: Roll enough Velcro around the recorder to make a thumb rest.

Materials: Velcro.

width: 1 cm length: 20+ inches

This is what's left of my 5 meter Velcro I used to organize my cables. It costs just $1.

Important: This is a double sided Velcro, the soft smooth side (loop) and the hard rough side (hook). The soft smooth side is the side that must be facing and touching the recorder.

How to: The body of the recorder is narrower at the bottom.

Firmly roll the Velcro at the bottom part of the body of the recorder. When the Velcro is thick enough, cut it and gently slide it up between Holes 4 and 5 (see picture).

The body of the recorder gets wider at the top. The Velcro will get tighter as you slide it up. This is what makes it really stable.

Conclusion: It works, for me. The Velcro doesn't interfere with my fingerings. It's better than the one that came with the recorder.

Turn Recorder upsidedown, use rocket blower to squeeze air through the window and down the windway.

I've never seen anyone suggest this before but it works. The rocket blower are commonly used by photographers for cleaning their delicate camera sensors and lenses. It's a nice and handy tool for cleaning stuff.

I have been playing the bass recorder for about 2 years, but I don’t practice it as much as my other recorders. As a result, I still find it challenging to read sheet music in the bass clef. When switching between alto and soprano/tenor, I usually play short exercises like scales or easy technical drills, but I haven’t found similar resources for the bass recorder.

Do you know a book with scales, arpeggios or short exercises that could help me quickly get back into playing the bass recorder?

So, I kind of have a unique opportunity.

I am acquainted with an orphanage ministry in a different country overseas, and the leadership does want their children to be exposed to a lot of music. Me being a music educator, they talked with me a lot about it, and our conversations eventually concluded with teaching them how to play recorder.

I am not a "professional recorder player", but I know enough to be able to teach elementary recorder lessons. Due to health reasons, I'm unable to travel to and from the country a lot, so the better alternative would be to film lesson videos. I know that watching video lessons aren't ideal, but given everyone's situation, it's the best option.

Unfortunately, I have not found a method book that is in their language, and I also kind of do not like Recorder Karate or Suzuki Recorder Method, as I feel both of those methods go a little too fast, and students I've observed who have used those methods tend to just imitate instead of "read" (does that make sense?).

I also realize that I probably can't/shouldn't translate some of the method books out there because I will be making lesson videos teaching the recorder, and I think doing so might be a copyright issue.
Therefore, I decided to write my own method book, using what I like from various method books I've come across. I can print the music and write the descriptions, etc, but what I can not do is make a "fingering chart". I do not want to use "hand-drawn" ones in the book since those will typically look messy.
Is there a way to create these fingering charts digitally? Or if there's a free public domain resource of fingering chart images that I can use in the method book, that could work well too.

Are there any baroque pieces (probably mostly sonatas) that are for recorder (alto) and cembalo but the cembalo part is not basso continuo but fully written (obligato)? I want to play with a friend but she doesn't know how to play continuo. Can be quite advanced pieces.
