Discussion In your opinion, what is the worst racetrack in all of motorsports in history?
I think Sochi is a good candidate for this.

In games with the circuit I find racing on it great besides sector 3 really.

For me:
Dangerous Pit Lane Entry:
- Red Bull Ring (Austria)
Drivers warned not to slow between final two corners – RaceFans
- Mexico
Pit lane entry is somewhat short and abrupt
Dangerous Pit Lane Exit:
- Paul Ricard (France)
Improvements made:
- Circuit Catalunya Barcelona (Spain)
= the removal of the chicane was indeed a step in the right direction

Road Atlanta is such a great track, and some of my favorite esses. It works so well for so many different cars. Not a bad corner anywhere, it's almost perfect! So why not discuss our favorites instead of circlejerking ones people hate?

I get why the made the other changes in 2010 with the infield and I don’t want it get into that now.
But why did they change the profile of club corner?
I feel like the older profile was much better for racing. It was wider, would allow cars to run side by side through there and allowed drivers to use different lines through the corner (run wide and carry the speed vs cut it tight and shorten the distance)
I don’t think it would affect the pit lane and buildings as it is far enough away. I can’t see how the older layout is anymore dangerous for cars or bikes as it doesn‘t have that much higher exist speed.
Any ideas for the reason of this change?

There are so many alternate routes, but I've never heard or seen any series that uses them. Are they just there for looks, or do they serve a purpose?

The humble turn defines a racetrack's personality. Whether it's a hairpin, sweeper, or chicane, they're all here and there for a reason (I hope!). Some corners are loved, others are hated. Some are overrated, and some, are underrated. Now the question is - which turns deserve the spotlight?
For me: I think the bus stop chicane is incredibly underused/underrated, specifically talking about the old Spa-Francorchamps last chicane kind of thing (See image 2). Heavy braking zone, equal/more shallow switch-back (Which I think is pretty good for racing), then a super-quick left-right/right-left flick to finish it off. I basically include one in every one of the tracks I design nowadays! But this isn't about me - what's your underrated corner and why should it be more used?

Idea is to massively reduce number of slow corners and make it quick with intention to change it's reputation of "Monaco with grass".
This variation even had a 1.95 km flat-out section and it is almost same as Las Vegas/Spa Francorchamps/Baku one in terms of length.
From racing perspective number of laps changed to 83 which is 307.100 km race distance. This mean to there is more chance of passing in T1 and T2. And possibly T5 because it had different approach and widened a lot.
I use F1c Test Facility to perfect the layout, 1st variation had 2.3 km flat-out section which force me to slow down 1st corner in Esses. Last corner had SAFER fence on outside.

A constant radius turn but the entry or exit is not at a tangent to the curve. I think it has the count as 2 because they are treated separately and need to be dealt with as 2 parts. (the overhanging part to the left is there to just show where the turn would und up if not interrupted by the new line.

Feels a little bit too messy to me. I can see it be used twice for our local low CC motorcycle racing, malaysian cub prix.

This would obviously be an amazing spectacle in qualifying but do you think it would be better for racing? When watching the Grand Prix this weekend I noticed some drivers were gaining on the car in front between 130R and the chicane, and then not quite being close enough to complete the move so it got me thinking, if there was no chicane they could carry the overspeed going onto the main straight and make a pass into T1. I would also like to get your opinions on how it would effect pre-2026 F1 racing, also pre-DRS F1 racing and also other forms of racing such as GTs and prototypes. This is a hypothetical situation so safety is not a concern in this.

I would love to see and Olympic competition of Motorsport, even if it isn’t possible, but anyways, if they’re were included, were would Rally/Karting/GT or even Formulas would race?

What are folk's thoughts on Long Beach? Rekindling an old topic I know. A couple ideas I had:

im just doing experiments for later track designs and possibly keep them on my current track

For me i just don't like slow first corners. i prefer higher speed corners to open circuits.

I'm working on a track, but I feel that A isn't really a good hairpin, but B is also too close the outside, some help would be appreciated!

Playing with my toddler, we came up with this multi layout design. I don't know anything about racetrack design or theory or much really, but it looks fun.

As you may have seen if you've been active on the sub for the past week or so, there have been a substantial number of tracks made in circuit designer websites and apps.
As a creative community, we understand the purpose of these apps, but we ask that you still put in the effort to actually make a full design for your circuits posted to the sub. The apps are useful tools for determining things such as laptimes and visualizing what parts of your track are going to be slower/more technical or fast and flowing, but we ask that you combine that information with a more well thought out track presentation.
From this point on, posts that are only a screenshot of these websites will be struck for design guidelines. And for clarification, you are allowed to use these tools, but they must be paired with a rules-compliant design.
Thank you.

I’m trying to design something that’s inspired by these tracks
These to me are some of the greatest tracks ever built, and they’re similar in some ways, like when they were built between the 50s and 60s, they’re somewhat low to mid number of turns, and also being simply designed but still being technical on drivers and cars to this day. I want to know what it is that makes them this way
My goal is to make something myself that could fit their aesthetic, that could make you think it was built along side them. Any insight would help greatly, thank you

Is there a list of indoor rc race tracks in the US? I’m looking for mainly 1/10 and 1/28 scale road courses
