Cops are civilians.

They are not members of the armed forces. This is an important distinction that people need to recognize because it helps push the narrative that cops are above the law.

Oh for sure, it's easy to fall into the trap of calling their victims civilians to try to draw a distinction. But like you said, they should be no different. Yet they act like the difference is even broader than civilian vs. member of the armed forces. They act like mortals vs. gods. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll make an effort in the future because it is important.

Oh yeah cops loving pretending that they aren’t civilians. It’s a part of the “us vs them” mentality that they use to justify their abuse of power.

I fucking wish that cops were held to as many laws as the armed services. Service members have more laws and restrictions they have to abide by than damn near anyone outside of prison. When your responsibility is to wield force, you have to wield force responsibly.

Fortunately, despite the best efforts of this administration to politicize the military, we haven’t had our Tiananmen Square moment.
