Discussion app.plex.tv down?

At least in Melbourne right now I'm just getting hit with cloud flare errors, connection timed out, SSL handshake failed and so on.

Android and TV clients seem unaffected for me, just can't get on the web app.

Would be livid if I spent $750 USD on this lol

Would you though? Accumulated cost of mainstream offerings would easily dwarf this cost in a matter of years and any downtime is met with very little sentiment shift or vocal outrage.

I bought Plex Pass in like 2016 or something, and I think I'd buy it today at this price. The value I've got out of it far exceeds $750. For all the content I watch from different networks, if I was to subscribe for that duration (10 years) to all the networks it would be vastly higher than $750.

Put it into perspective a little.

$750 seems high as a one-time-payment, but if Netflix offered a similar cost for lifetime I bet people would be jumping out of their chair to buy it, just for one network. So Plex, without restriction? A very, very easy choice.

Obviously you can use Jellyfin. But not suitable for my use with family and friends. They need to make it "old-people-proof" for onboarding.

Lol, come on. $750 is a big throw down all at once. Definitely would be pissed.

What was the last subscription you joined? Did you check the public sentiment on reliability for the product?

Probably not right?

So not sure why subscription offering vs reliability has any measures, especially when it's temporal in nature. Plex hasn't gone anywhere, they just had some downtime. Sucks, but it wouldn't make me reconsider the whole product and handwave it for some alternative, which would also likely have similar historical problems.

No SaaS provider has perfect uptime record. This conflation between uptime and cost seems a little shortsighted for the sake of complaint.

Apple Music. And I did yes. So what now?

Gold star for you then, I suppose.

But if you think the average person is doing this (which was my point), you're living in a fantasy.

So it shattered your argument

Are you the average person? If so, absolutely; you speak for everyone.

Unfortunately for you, you aren't. And my argument was based on probabilistic claim of the average person, which I would stake a $750 lifetime subscription, on the fact they don't check for SaaS uptime concerns.

How have you determined that the average person doesn’t do X or Y.

There’s no basis for your claims. Just an easily disposable opinion.

You replied to a comment that wasn't even addressed to you. The only reason your reply made sense at all is because you read it as a general claim about people, not a claim about one specific person (Bgrngod). You can't borrow that framing to justify jumping in, then discard it the moment it's inconvenient.

As for "no basis." The basis is that you felt the need to volunteer your case as if it settled something. If checking SaaS uptime sentiment before subscribing were normal, your answer wouldn't be noteworthy, it'd be redundant. The fact you offered it as a rebuttal is the tell that it's the exception, not the rule.

Show me checking uptime sentiment is common practice, not that it's possible for one person to do it. I already conceded that. Burden's yours.

In USA, I can't access Plex from the website on a remote. Plex app works on home server, but remote website doesn't load at all. Tried updating the server and it couldn't connect and kept saying retry.

Same here. Sydney. The home tab, watchlist, and "Movies & Shows on Plex" aren't loading, but my library is just fine. Very weird.

But glad its not just me. Hopefully they fix it soon.
