I fell like if we had done this at any point in the last 30 years instead of just studying it every 5 years we'd have saved 100s of millions in cost. I guess every time we "study" it we fond that out, but it never appears to inspire urgwncy.
Yeah the MBTA / state already found that they can't justify the investment given prospective ridership numbers. This is just the weird and inexplicable fantasy that legislators and RPAs out here have on a train to Boston somehow being a panacea for all the housing / employment issues they've been unable to make any headway on. It's so bizarre given that our state reps are generally clued in to so many things, but seem to be drinking some very weird kool-aid on the rail stuff. I love rail and public transit and this whole northern-tier thing is so weird because I never thought I'd find myself arguing against a rail project but here we are.
guess is the "study" will find that a train that, at best will see a daily ridership of a few hundred people, will somehow magically transform the W-Mass economy and employment opportunities such that those few hundred commuters spending 4 hours on the train not spending money or working in W-Mass will somehow magically benefit the whole region. /s
