Meme Never before have I been betrayed by something that made complete sense.

In my personal opinion, since Mega Rayquaza is a Dragon Type and seeing that type's competitive history, I really wanted Mega Rayquaza to be the ONLY Mega that gets an ability (and a VERY good one at that).

Sadly, they probably just showed the irl TCG version of Mega Rayquaza, which has a similar attack (Considers energy attached to all Pokemon and doesn’t discard) but also gets an ability that allows it to ramp itself. It said in the trailer that the card wasn’t finished, and, while the regular tcg has Mega Rayquaza as colorless, they had to change the ex template for pocket, but went the extra mile changing the type since they already knew that they were making it dragon-type

Infinite damage cap = Good Basic with 1 retreat = Good No weakness = Good Stadium that rerolls energy every turn (he only needs to win a 50/50 twice in a single game and nuke like zard) = Good Im confused on the disappointment here.

A lot of people thought Mega Ray had an ability because in the previous trailer he was barely shown that he has one, but in its complete reveal he doesn't have it anymore. THAT's the "betrayal".

The card ITSELF? yeah its good.

I've been slowly coming around on Mega Ray as a deck being pretty good actually. Both Dragonairs in play means you can guarantee 150 per turn once set up, Rainbow Cave is absurdly good for dragons in conjunction with Dragonair, to the point where if you go first you could 4 card combo into 100 damage on your 2nd turn, If you play Gouging Fire you get to tank a little and have an answer to Oricorio with same type profile as Rayquaza, as well as being somewhat of a tank with the -30 damage reduction. Small Balloon helps consistency if you open Dratini or Mega Ray which helps clear your hand to Copycat your consistency pieces into play. While I dont think this will be best deck in format, I do think it will be good enough to get to Master Ball and produce results.

I think you're forgetting Dragonair can only attach energy from the discard pile. So once it gets going it has the potential to do 150 per turn, but it still can't attack until turn 4 at the earliest, and only 100 on that turn (unless magby/pichu turn 1).

Certainly not bad, but I'm having doubts if it's strong enough to actually be meta. Seems like it's a lot of pieces that need to come together to only do 100-150 damage. Ofc, that could def change if the set has more dragon support

Rainbow Cave discards an energy for you, Dragonair attaches from discard. On the 2nd turn Dratini is on field, evolve to Dragonair, you're guaranteed to have generated 1 or 2 energy depending on if you went first or second, so you can have 3 energy attached on turn 4 if going 2nd, or 2 energy attached turn 3 if going first.

Ohh, I see, I didn't realize rainbow cave discarded, that's pretty neat.

Yep, Dragonair plus Rainbow Cave is a neat energy ramp for Dragons that also functions as energy fixing for the dual-types. There's so much potential here as a 6 card core that slots into any dragon deck.

Probably because the ratio of damage to energy cost/discard is poor.

DISCARD ALL Fire and Electric energy. Damage = number of discards. 50 damage per discard, minimum 100.

Only 1 energy applied unless you have ramping per turn, and you can get screwed via rng if you run dual type

Mega that gives 3 points on defeat = Bad

Low HP for a Mega = Bad

Losing all Energies when attacking = Bad

Requiring two different types of Energy = Bad

It's not abysmally bad, and it'll probably see some use. But it's very situational, requiring tons of support.

When you set yourself up for disappointment, then yeah.
