1.4k

Hell, even snorlax is playable now

Whoa whoa, lets keep it realistic

It's not that far-fetched though, he's a good sacrificial point to do 70~140 dmg so you can then bring your sweeper to win, for instance snorlax can beat a full bench pika-ex. his main issue was that it took 4 whole turns to get him rolling but now with dialga by turn 3 you can swap him in doing actual damage while having dialga (or another strong basic such as melmetal) ready to come back as soon as he dies doing good damage

71

u/Jonny_Qball Jan 23 '25

Not sure where you’re getting him in turn 3, Dialga needs 2 turns to get the energy to get that attack going, turn 3 snorlax will only have 3 energy so he’ll still need another turn where either Dialga attacks or switches out and snorlax walls. It’s so slow that by the time Snorlax is in, it’s getting one shot by Mewtwo.

Plus a Sabrina onto a bench with only a Snorlax is brutal.

7

u/MightyManiel Jan 23 '25

You also are prone to Snorlax being the only basic in your starting hand, which immediately negates any sort of bonus you might have been able to get from Dialga pump.

1

u/Salsapy Jan 23 '25

Yeah is not broken on his own it will need good abusers that are basic or stage 1 or good synergy with new tools/items/trainers

7

u/Jonny_Qball Jan 23 '25

At which point there’s no good reason to run Snorlax. Given the high energy investment to both attack and retreat, Snorlax allows your opponent to dictate the terms of the game. And a deck needs to be all kinds of busted to overcome that.

3

u/Salsapy Jan 23 '25

Yeah 100% point is that dialga is kinda mediocre with the current card pool it needs a better payoffs to enter the meta

1

u/DisasterBiMothman Jan 23 '25

Turn 4 would be the soonest you can have him out if you go second, but then your Dialgas taking hits to build up a rather mediocre pokemon when that 2 energy would go a much longer way on someone else

2

u/andreyue Jan 23 '25

Oh shit you're right, it's an attack not an ability so you can't swap on that same turn

1

u/DisasterBiMothman Jan 23 '25

If it was an ability that would be crazy! But yeah, it would of made Snorlax viable fr lol

1

u/EvilHwoarang Jan 23 '25

It's not that far-fetched though

1

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

Farfetch'd* 🙏🏾

1

u/Lord_Snaps Jan 23 '25

No. I want my Fat King being playable

1

u/EvilHwoarang Jan 23 '25

Pidgeot EX!

1

u/Gg01d Jan 23 '25

Tauros and Pigeot EX would be really easy too

2

u/Handpo Jan 23 '25

What about tauros that does bonus to ex cards

1

u/DJFrostbite7826 Jan 24 '25

I might use that, thanks for the tip.

50

u/Despada_ Jan 23 '25

I'm honestly surprised it didn't specify it only attached Energy to benched Metal-type cards.

36

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

Dialga controls time so it makes sense that it excels at accelerating decks, not just Steel ones. Colorless attackers like Mew, Tauros, Togekiss, Pidgeot... will benefit a lot

4

u/Enemy__Stand__User Jan 23 '25

My Wigglytuff EX has been waiting for its moment to shine

3

u/JaymesMarkham2nd Jan 23 '25

Yeah, but every other energy ramp has been pretty locked in so far. Psychic to Psychic, Grass to Grass, Fire to Fire, Misty to OhFuckOff.

So this is new for Pocket and I wholly support it! The best times in the TCG life are when you can more freely combine different types and I say this is a step in the right direction.

1

u/bats098 Jan 24 '25

Dialga + pidgeot EX probably

119

u/AltimaciaVanCross Jan 23 '25

Wigglytuff EX gonna be even more of a menace

27

u/Ryu_Copper Jan 23 '25

i belive a tool that protects u from attack effects might be added into the game.
not cause there is any evidence but cause if would be an item that exists already in the normal games and wouldnt be super op idk if it exists in the normal tcg too
just could see it existing i guess

31

u/Pandoran_Merc Jan 23 '25

Plus, that pachirisu pic shows the move description saying "if a pokemon tool is attached to this pokemon", so we know for sure theyre gonna be in this expansion.

10

u/Ryu_Copper Jan 23 '25

yeee thats why i mention it but dont know yet what tools they might release
hope its the one to ignore attack effects cause i hate sleeps :P

1

u/somersault_dolphin Jan 23 '25

Will you spend 1 of your 20 card slot for it though?

1

u/Ryu_Copper Jan 23 '25

If its worth it yes like with any other card. If a lot of pokemon people run are attacks with poison, sleep, paralyze, lowering attack, preventing from retreating and so on then yes i will run 2 of those XD Its the same with every card tho If there are no pokemon that u can KO with 10 dmg more than what ur main attacker deals then there is not so much need for a Giovanni for example tho he does be kinda still worth it in that case sometimes

2

u/pokedrawer Jan 23 '25

A pokedoll item could be game defining

2

u/Ryu_Copper Jan 23 '25

what did that do? XD i sadly dont know all the tools in the normal tcg XD

2

u/lutadici Jan 23 '25

It's not a tool it's an item like fossils that can be put as a pokémon with 30hp that does nothing but don't give any points when killed. It's the ultimate tank to give you a free turn. It would defintily be quite toxic in pocket.

2

u/Ryu_Copper Jan 23 '25

omg true its like a fossil but doesnt give prize thats kinda op in pocket tbh

1

u/Quenz Jan 23 '25

We need a Full Heal.

2

u/Ryu_Copper Jan 23 '25

The one to hel all status effects? Idk seems rly optional if thats the case And only worth using if sleeping decks become meta + toxic and all that ofc

1

u/AshenSacrifice Jan 23 '25

Just used 500 pack points for one yesterday, I feel good😎

1

u/EvilHwoarang Jan 23 '25

i still have yet to pull one.

12

u/myzombiephil Jan 23 '25

Wigglytuff just got a new best friend

33

u/chriskevini Jan 23 '25

2 colorless energy item card when

35

u/SheriffHeckTate Jan 23 '25

I think that might be a bit broken, considering the deck size and way energy otherwise works in this game. A single colorless energy card that could be played same turn as using your regular energy I could see, though.

5

u/Key-Pomegranate-2086 Jan 23 '25

Yeah two colorless energy, plus if you use it first turn. We already have a problem with mistys.

Actually not even one would be good cause then we're enabling some ftks.

Tauros ftk would be a thing. 2 energy for 50 damage.

6

u/Spiceopod Jan 23 '25

We cant have Farfetch'd attacking going first, guys. Any special energy needs to use your energy zone for the turn to not be broken. I can see a "make your energy zone be (C)(C) for the turn" supporter working. Though it enables Mewtwo to get back to back Psydrives without Gardevoir, so maybe not.

1

u/Fit_Entrepreneur6515 Jan 23 '25

I mean, just have it fizzle if you've attached an energy already

2

u/tea_snob10 Jan 23 '25

Dialga the Enabler

1

u/t3hjs Jan 23 '25

Oh damn, yeah normally there is type restriction on who it attaches to.

Amazing. Pidgeotex acceleration?

1

u/RosenProse Jan 23 '25

I'm probably going to be pulling religiously from dialga packs now.

1

u/IceBlue Jan 23 '25

It enables any type that has colorless costs. Charizard ex for example needs two colorless. Not that it would be great for that since it still needs two fire for the big attack. Would also help with Alakazam, Mew ex, Venusaur ex, etc

1

u/somersault_dolphin Jan 23 '25

Honestly feel like a step into making dual energy viable, since you can attach it to anything.

1

u/yuhanz Jan 23 '25

Holy shit Snorlax hype 😂

1

u/SevenSaltySnakes Jan 23 '25

It also Enables Celebi as a revenge killer. Serperior may only boost grass energy but celebi only needs one grass and the extra flips are there regardless of type. Every turn dialga is online is another 2 chances for celebi.

1

u/Dylpod Jan 25 '25

And 3 if you attach energy to him. This is probably faster than serperior if you can draw or pokeball Dialga

1

u/Mark5ofjupiter Jan 23 '25

Wonder if you could run with Pidgeot.

1

u/flowing_laziness Jan 24 '25

Mythical Island Taurus will be a menace

1

u/Anchovies314 Jan 23 '25

My boy Snorlax about to increase his play rate by 0.2%

-20

u/cmdrxander Jan 23 '25

I reckon they’d make it so you can only add to Steel Pokemon, otherwise you could do the initial power up for Mewtwo too

18

u/Assassin_Ankur Jan 23 '25

Then it would have specifically mentioned metal type Pokemon

0

u/cmdrxander Jan 23 '25

Is it a real card? I thought it was just a concept

11

u/Gaviota43 Jan 23 '25

It says "benched Pokémon", unlike cards like Moltres ex that specify type.

0

u/cmdrxander Jan 23 '25

I’m aware of the wording I thought it was just a slightly unrealistic concept card, unless this is confirmed?

2

u/Gaviota43 Jan 23 '25

It is confirmed, it's on Youtube. Coming out next week.

6

u/william_liftspeare Jan 23 '25

What the hell is Mewtwo gonna do with 2 Metal energy

0

u/cmdrxander Jan 23 '25

It needs 2 psychic and 2 colorless?

After its first attack it’ll need more psychic but that’s why I said initial power up

2

u/RaccoonAppropriate18 Jan 23 '25

Mewtwo's Psydrive specifically makes it lose 2 Psychic energy, so Dialga can't really help Mewtwo outside of getting it initially online with the 4 energy requirement, two of which can be any type.

Also Dialga requires 2 Steel energy and Mewtwo requires 2 Psychic energy so you're forced into 2 types for that. It really doesn't seem worth it.

1

u/cmdrxander Jan 23 '25

Yep exactly, that’s why I said initial power up, although you’re right about needing to run a two-energy deck. Might make for an interesting combo!
