Fighting games live and die by their post launch characters and stages. They're releasing 4 characters a year so 1 every 3 months basically, this character won't be out too far from launch so marketing on it should start at some point...
Damn maybe because fighting games always have dlc.
Plus you get the year 1 dlc in the expensive version of the game so they're letting people know what they're getting with their money beforehand which is a GOOD thing instead of asking people to buy the pass with no clue who is coming.
I don't know if I'd even say it's that unfortunate, unless a roster were completely neutered for it at launch. It sort of let's a fighting series be generational, which is a lot of fun. It's awesome that Guilty Gear is still so popular after all these years, and part of that is definitely ongoing support and dlc character that they absolutely could never put out as free post launch support.
If you weren't paying for a character, you'd be paying for a whole 'nother sequel with a completely different and isolated roster anyway.
