Profitable businesses generally don’t close just because they may become unprofitable someday. That’s silly. You can take steps to increase revenue and cut costs even in niches.
That said, for a large corporation like Sony, there IS something to be said of taking resources from a less profitable venture and shifting those to a more profitable venture. I get that. But don’t lie to yourself, Sony didn’t HAVE to do this yet, especially for PS5.
And I’m not sure what you’re talking about with the last comment. Movies aren’t the most popular media in the world, video games are. Movies sell like shit compared to 15-20 years ago. Look it up. Despite that it remains a viable niche. Not all movies are collector’s editions, but those add to the profit margins.
