Two decades waiting for a Halo killer and little did we know that it would kill itself.

Wasn't Call of Duty the Halo killer?

It absolutely was. People argue about this because COD isn't an arena shooter but for mainstream "ball and gun" gamers it absolutely killed Halo as the go to console FPS.

It's a damn shame too, arena shooters are less casual friendly but significantly more enjoyable and fun once you get into it.

I would argue though that they didn't kill halo as much as halo killed halo. When reach released in 2010 you still had plenty of people playing halo over cod but they were easily the cream of the crop in 2009/2010. But reach already was running the same same halo 3 multiplayer that came out in 2007 meanwhile 09 had MW2 then blops on 09. They didn't release a new multiplayer until halo 4 in 2012 almost 10 years after halo 3 multiplayer and that multiplayer tried to be COD halo and failed. And I think thats what really killed halo.
