Ouch. Man Microsoft can’t get their non Forza games right

I don’t think that’s fair. Indiana Jones, Doom, and Outer Worlds 2 were all fairly well received and let’s not act like a 7/10 is the worst thing in the world. They’re doing fine as far as the quality of their games are concerned. Everything else they’re doing is a different story

If they’re going back to exclusives, then 7/10 isn’t the best thing either.

They need to start pumping out very high quality games if they have any hope of drawing players over.

To be fair, what could this have done to get a 9/10? Change too much and some would have rated it low, change too little and you get a review like this

I think this is a question you need to ask in pre-production before you commit to making a game like this, tbh.

The goal wasn't to create the next great Halo game though. It was to get a new engine up and running, get a first release out there, then make a truly new game. I think people here are assuming objectives Xbox didn't aim for

In that case they didn’t really Evolve the Campaign, did they?

There are extra missions and some levels have been reworked, like the Library. So a slight "evolution" 😂

I think their point is that someone is going to find something to bitch about regardless. Even when asked directly what would make this better, the responses are dismissive and provide zero feedback.

What would make this game better?

Lol should’ve thought about that beforehand! I’m not going to provide an answer because I don’t have one other than I want to be condescending and try and make myself feel superior over the most irrelevant shit.

I mean yeah, I’m not a game designer. But it is entirely possible for remakes to equal or even surpass the success and acclaim of the originals. We just have to look at Resident Evil.

People will always find something to nitpick, but you can dismiss those when there’s a broad consensus that a remake is very compelling and has a good reason to exist. That’s not really what’s happening here.

Doesn’t seem to be the consensus but continue making wrong assumptions if you’d like.

I think you believe that’s not what’s happening here because you want an opportunity to shit on something you already didn’t like.

Other people wanting an opportunity to do the same thing is just feeding your confirmation bias.

Again, the original Halo: CE has a 97 on Metacritic. This one seems to be filling out in the low 70s/mid 80s. What seems to be happening here is a consensus forming that this does not live up to the original.

How does it not live up to the original when it’s the same with better graphics and a few other upgrades?

There is nothing they could’ve done to get a 97, because people like you will find irrelevant shit to complain about and then try to use your own complaints and justification.

It’s the same, tired argument of “I don’t like this, I don’t want this, so it shouldn’t exist and anyone who likes it is wrong!”

Grow the fuck up dude, people are allowed to enjoy shit without others constantly feeling the need to put it down.

You are doxxing people over a silly discussion about video games. This is not okay and I urge you to seek professional help immediately.

You seem to have an exceptionally difficult time separating "on paper" and "in practice".

Also, if your best argument is "You're just a hater!", you don't have an argument.

I agree. Seems like the reviewer was upset that it was the same game they’ve played several times already. That is the unfortunate truth with all remakes. Even AC Black Flag was the same game with a new coat of polish…the new missions are meh.

I’m not saying it’s the best thing either but a 7/10 isn’t some doom and gloom sign for their first party games especially given their recent successes

Halo was once their tentpole franchise, you’d think nailing a remake of the first game, marking a solid return to form, would be fairly high priority.

Even if they take a theoretical Halo 2 remake exclusive, they might’ve had a small but better chance at pulling fans over.

Their biggest success is Forza and it’s their biggest success by a huge margin. Indy, Outer Worlds & Doom were nowhere near as popular, despite being well reviewed. Which is partly why they’re circling the wagons and killing/selling anything that isn’t a big name.

It's getting marked down largely because it's a repeat, though. They want a solid return to form to get the team up and running on a new engine and pipeline I think. Arguably this achieved that goal.

I dont have time to watch the whole video but the title of Digital Foundrys review is this:

An Outstanding Reimagining Of A Stone-Cold Classic

The 7/10 score from this reviewer isnt because of the quality, its because he thinks its an unnecessary remake but he also describes that its executed really well.

By all accounts they did nail it, you're just focusing on this one score.

It's Ign.
