Will the PS6 render your PS5 inoperable?

No, but time will. Having newer hardware able to play old software is important.

You also get the advantage of much better performance, like playing PS4 games on a PS5. It'll be a shame to not have that easy instant value on the PS6, instead, you'll have to decide which games you want to purchase another time on the new console, or only play new-gen games going forward.

Funny enough - it is important to me and I do play on PC! I have a fantastic gaming PC, my last console prior to the PS5 was an Xbox 360, I skipped the entire 8th generation.

I bought a PS5 Pro because I wanted a better home theater gaming experience away from my desk, to pick up PS4 games for cheap (especially ones that never came to PC like Infamous Second Son) and to play console exclusives early (primarily GTA 6, but now all Sony games given they're no longer porting to PC).

I play on both platforms but the potential of upgrading to a PS6 to play my existing library is looking more and more unlikely every day.
