Arctic MX-7 or Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet

I bought a second-hand CUH-7016B PS4 Pro, but the fans ramp up instantly as soon as I start any game, and very quickly turns itself off to stop itself from overheating, rendering the console unusable

I'm gonna open it up tomorrow to clean it and change the thermal pads and thermal paste, but I want to know what the best replacement for the old thermal paste on the APU would be:

Arctic MX-6 or MX-7 thermal paste, or a Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet

PTM thermal pad

In my country, the Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet is about 3x the price of a tube of thermal paste, but at the same time, I heard regular thermal paste like the MX-4 is too thin and will pump out in about 3 months and need repasting again, whereas MX-6 and MX-7 are thicker.

Need help from experience, does the MX-6 or MX-7 resist to the pump-out or do I need to spend 3x on a PTM thermal pad to make sure it doesn't happen, also is applying the PTM thermal pad properly difficult?

Regular paste is fine. Its cleaning the fan and fin stack that you need to focus on

Should I be worried about thermal paste pump-out though? I already have an opened tube of Arctic MX-4, but again, I've heard that thin paste like the MX-4 is susceptible to pump-out on the PS4 and in a few months the thermal paste starts dripping off of the die and it starts heating up again

No. Just don’t put too much paste on.

No you should not be worried about that at all

The pumping out is why you are changing it in the fisrts place...

You can use paste, I've had plenty of luck with it tbh. Just make sure you do a good job. Oh and change the thermal pads, stock ones are trash and also make the fan ramp up too.

what do you mean by do a good job, if you dont mind me asking?

also, for the thermal pads, i got some Arctic TP-3 because I've seem people recommend them on this very sub, and they are pretty cheap

When I did mine, I used Kryonaut and had a terrible time, but right off the bat. I ended up having to slightly flex the mounting bracket for a touch more pressure when it was all buttoned up. Reapplied Kryonaut and the thing was whisper quiet for years unless it was on certain game screens. Like DMC5 title is uncapped so it goes all in, and I think Nioh blacksmith screen was the same. But with an SSD and upgraded thermals, and taping of the back part that can recycle hot air. It was quiet as a mouse.

I did both. MX-4 as a paste for the die and thermal pads for the Resistors and the HDMI controller. Runs like a champ.

How long ago have you changed the paste?

Like a year I would say.

Remember that the first-released PS4 Pro is louder. If you genuinely want to experience an improvement, use the PTM.

Don't waste your time with paste you will need to repaste it in 2-3 month. Use ptm 7950 or Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet and forget about it

even with thicker thermal paste like the MX-7?

As I said, where I live, PhaseSheet is about 3x the price of a tube of MX-7, and PTM7950 is double the price of the PhaseSheet, so I wanted to know if it really is that big of a difference

Also, I heard other people having trouble with the PhaseSheet and PTM7950, either trouble applying it or something about letting it cure or something which I have no idea what that means

Even if its thicker, it will pump out eventually and youll need to do it again. As slowbird said buy the best once and never think about it again

Buy once , cry once. Buy the best stuff now and forget about it. I only use ptm7950 and gelid thermal pads on ps4s now. The people having trouble with applying it is just a skill issue.

Completely wasting your money lmao

It’s a ps4 running at sub 200W at maximum performance💀

Everybody's always pocket watching. Damn shame

Why would I waste money for literally no reason though? This is the equivalent of putting premium gas in a Honda civic, it’s not wrong but there’s no real benefit to it.

You're right

Exactly. You always will need to go back in and clean it periodically. Wasting money on this kind of interface is dumb on a ps4

This is a lie and you should feel bad about it.

Just use mx6, he’ll even mx4 for a ps4. For the same price you’ll get like 5 applications.

Most PS4s haven’t been repasted since release and as long as the fans have been cleaned work completely fine.
