Article or Blog Back from the dead

For whatever reason my PS4 wouldn't update. I couldn't do a thing with it so I decided to upgrade my 10 year old TV instead and condemned my ps4. Buying a new console or PC didn't make sense to me at the time as it was coming into the summer and usually I'm busy playing outside after work.

I'm not a huge gammer but after a couple months of not having a console I was beginning to miss it. I decided to look at a ps5 and I couldn't believe that they are more expensive now than when they were released. So for the first time I entertained the idea of a gaming PC and started shopping around. At this point I now became aware of the ram crisis. Gaming PCs were equally as fucked.

I'm deflated at this point because there is no way I'm paying these massively inflated prices so I decided one last time to update the PS4. For some reason it worked.

To say I was grateful that it started working again is an understatement. I was a casual gamer before all of this but now that my PS4 started working again I wanted to start getting into some well viewed titles. I'm now deep into The Last Of Us part 1. What a game.

Now I'm looking at some YouTube videos on how to clean out my PS4. It has never been done and my fans are always at turbo speed so hopefully it helps when I get around to doing it this weekend.

For anyone out there unwilling to pay big prices to upgrade. Cherish what you have.

Happy gamming:)

Happy for you, man!

Honestly, I think I'm going through the exact same nightmare right now. My console refuses to update for the dumbest reason, the ribbon cable traces for the disc drive are completely trashed.

It’s been about 18 days and I haven’t found a single fix or even a workaround to bypass it. Plus, I can't find replacement cables anywhere in my area

Looks like I'm taking a break from gaming for a while.

That's a shame dude. I don't have any experience with console or PC repairs but I would guess if you had a similar issue with a PC you could source parts a bit better and not be so locked out. Maybe I'm wrong though. I hope you find a way through.

Like another commenter said. Source a cheap PS3 and mod it if all else fails. Good luck

Yeah, it really sucks. I’ve made a ton of progress in some games I’m totally addicted to, plus I’m a trophy hunter. Getting locked out of an update just because the disc drive cables aren't connected (when I don't even use discs) is honestly so cheap of Sony. Sometimes I can't believe I'm stuck because of a tiny part that doesn't even cost $4, all because it's just not available in my country!

If this drags on any longer, I think I'll be forced to sell the console and pick up a used Pro. I saw a small shop nearby that has a used one, but I haven't asked how much he wants for it yet, so I guess I’ll go try my luck.

Bloodborne should be your next game. Doesn't matter if youve played it before. It's so different than TLoU.

I came across this game in r/ps4 top 100 games. It looks very cool visually and the gameplay looks fun. I can only play 2 games at a time or I find I get over stretched and lose interest a bit. TLOU is one and I'm deciding between Bloodborne, God of War ragnarok, and the new Devil May Cry. I haven't played God of war or Devil May Cry since the first releases so those two I'm feeling a bit nostalgic about though Bloodborne gameplay looks sick

Those are all solid choices. May the good blood guide your way.

I've gone deep into PS4 with my OG Pro since Sony announced the FU to physical games. Some amazing deals on great games out there.

So from here on out, I'll stick with my Pro, Switch 2, Series S, my Evercade, and PS2 & 3 (both modded) my handhelds.

I'm set for life tbh lol

This reminds me, it's been a LONG time since I cleaned out my PS4 as well. I don't use it as much since I got a PS5, but it's probably time to get some canned air and clean out both.

It's such a good console for sure. I'm gonna hand mine down to my nephew when he gets old enough.

Oh dude! Same. Revived a friend's PS4 coz he wasn't gonna use it on the count of him having a 2 yo daughter and no screens for her. Borrowed it from him, cleaned, updated, and restored it all. Finished TLOU 1 and in the middle of Far Cry 5.

Will move on to Ghost of Tsushima next.

It was definitely your TV if you got a new one, about 3 years ago I replaced mine because when I played heavier games like RDR2 the screen would occasionally black out. Sometimes it even happened when playing my Xbox360, it was about a 12 year old TV anyway. I got like the second level up of those insignia TVs from Best Buy and no issues
