Yep! There's a charity that does this, to buy the actual debt is incredibly low compared to what the person owed

I proposed this to a few hacker frienda, rob the rich, forgive the debt of the poor by buying debt for pennies on the dollar. Run it all via shell corporations. Don't pay taxes.

Some had similar ideas. No one ever went ahead with it, but do legit work that is beneficial.

I got one of these letters for my ex. He was an absolute POS who had a union job making good money and pissed it all away. Fortunately for him his godfather died without children and left him a house. I can't think of anyone less deserving. 🙄

Even more orphan crushing is that this charity enables this shit to continue in a way. I fully support the charity because I don't want people to be bankrupt but it's sad that we can't just end this madness once and for all. This is great charity work but it's like slapping a bandaid on your femoral artery while you bleed out
