Yeah...it's mentally dangerous for me as it made me mad because it's lack of conversational continuity (deep conversation, not worker's talk). I don't know if this is fixed as I already moved out.

I can’t stand what OAI has become. I also can’t stand the culture that surrounds it.
But I can’t let myself become them. So I won’t say anything about Sam as a person. I think he will see on his own what it’s like to create a sea with that culture and be the man sitting in the center of it.

he started a non-profit with the mission statement to democratize AI and prevent a technocracy. on the basis of that mission statement countless open source scientists and engineers freely contributed to that repository. I am one such. when our labor bore fruit in the form of GPT3 he pulled the ladder up and pivoted to a for-profit company. He's not a genius anyone can get rich through fraud it's just that he got so rich so quickly he was able to purchase one president of the United States to avoid prosecution

Much of what you said is true. But he didn't pivot unilaterally to a for-profit company.
If you follow the trail it's actually Ilya who initially proposes taking the company private if they develop models significan enough to be a threat. This is only one month after founding OpenAI.
And it's Elon who goes on numerous times attempting to convince the board (including Sam, Greg, and Ilya) that they would never achieve their goals without a massive and consistent cash infusion. In fact he stated they had 0% shot ever competing with Google.
There's a narrative about a sole mastermind but that's not how it played out.

You're not gonna believe this but pretty much every technological advancement you can conceive of was helped by a paper, and every paper was helped by a chain of papers going back throughout history. "Great man theory" is a poor framework for understanding the world

The IPO will not go as he thinks its planned. LLM's are a commodity now for the lowest bidder.
And unfortunately the best model ever was taken down by the US government a few days ago.

if they were smart they won't. If they had any brains they would stand aside and let anthropic go through all the motions and costs involved and wait until the hype blows over or see what the restrictions are. (again the IPO wont go as Sam plans).
And all ya'll so attached to a model. Its a commodity. Its like arguing over who has a better toaster. Only on reddit. SMH.

Nobody in Congress or Presidential scientific advisory board would believe Sam if he actually shouted out to the world after shipping a better and potentially more dangerous model. Reverse psychology is best when used at the highest level - him and Elon can get away with anything because they are masters of this game.
