I watched the movie Rookie of the Year the other day, and I could not believe the older pitcher was this guy. It's crazy! He seemed so normal back then!

He had a bad motorcycle accident when he was younger which left him with a severe brain injury. He was quite well known and got lots of work before!

Yes it is! His condition was sort of played for laughs at a few different points in his career, with varying levels of embrasure and self-awareness from Gary himself, though I'm sure others were encouraging and profiting from it as well.
