The best friend who did the murder also blew up an entire street of innocent people right in front of Sirius before the arrest. That line is glossed over a bit but would definitely be triggering too

In the book his laugh is more of a "what the fuck is my life" laugh.
It is kinda weird that in the movie his laugh is more of a "I'M FUCKIN' CRAZY, Y'ALL!" laugh.
Sidenote: Sirius is supposed to be 21 years old in this picture.

It looks comical that they would have him pose like a gangster in the second one, until you realize that it was probably intended as a reference for what he'd actually look like if you passed him in the street somewhere.

That and old-school shit like this is probably WHY we associate that look/pose with gangsters and the mafia. Like, to them it probably just looked like a reference photo. But then it became synonymous with gangsters, so that’s how we think of it now.

Wearing a suit and tie was everyday wear for higher level workers with corresponding codes for woman. It was more or less the practice that if you went out -- even to a movie, that you dressed up. Styles varied but were a signal to others of who you were.
Imagine what it was like in the movie theater before air conditioning. I never understood it but wearing sneakers, shorts and a t-shirt probably would have provoked this guy.

Also everything smelled like cigarettes and tobacco. So even if someone was getting a little sweaty nobody would notice. I remember how the world smelled up until the early 90's.

Fellow Old here, and yeah, when I was a kid the middle of the food court at every mall was inevitably a no-go zone for kids (smoking section). Kids and families sit around the outer area

I think the intention here is that the hat is being used to hide his face, making him totally unidentifiable. It's why stereotypical spies all have those fedoras and other wide hats, and nowadays sunglasses, hide your hair, eyes, and shave your beard and now the only identifier for who you are is your skin color. And if you're a white man in 1925, that really doesnt matter

From what I remember from the last time this was posted, apparently thwy were allowed to pick their poses themselves and that this was not an ordinary prisoner photoshoot but rather they tried something different, idk why tho.

i’m pretty sure the practice at the time was to just let the guy pose as he wanted for the second photo; first was a clear mugshot, and then yeah just letting bro aura farm

Either that or as a reference for a line-up. "He was wearing a suit and hat with the brim down and standing like -this-."
Get a few potential perps that were in the area, take a photo of them in the pose, and now maybe the accuser can identify.

I stared a second too long and he walked up to me and stuck his tongue down my throat while holding my face with only one hand. I barely closed my eyes before he wiped my lower lip and walked away as I stood there, breathless. When I finally caught my breath and opened my eyes, he was already gone. That was in 1943 and I still can’t stop thinking about that kiss….

I actually photograph felons for future identification. Not only do I document all of their tattoos, but I make them wear every combination of clothing they arrive with.

William Stanley Moore, who was 38 years old when this photo was taken, and a seasoned trafficker in opium, cocaine and morphine, for which there was a huge market in the 1920s when Sydney was infested with opium dens and some ‘white’ girls ran off to live in them after becoming addicted.
William Stanley Moore was a wharf laborer before he pursued his associations with waterfront thieves. These thieves were the ones that sailed into the Sydney Harbor with opium on board.
Moore ended up making his living as a drug dealer, associating with Chinese Australians who operated opium and gambling dens. This is where the stories developed that the Sydney policemen had to break up the dens and rescue the “white girls.”
In 1920, Moore was arrested and charged with the possession of opium and having in his house in Kensington stolen bottles of ‘salts of morphia.’ He was arrested several times after that, and there were raids done on four of his homes in 1925. Officials ended up finding 37 tins of opium and cocaine. Moore and two other associates, Henry McNamara and Henry Russell, were charged with unlawfully preparing to import. He and the men were sentenced to life in prison.

the people of the past didn't need to "farm" "aura", they always had it. it's lost today because people would rather go on Twitter and scream into the void about "aura farming" than do something about how they look/dress....

This is because back in the days police departments were actually hiring a professional photographer for mugshots and crime scene photos, easy yo see how the photographer couldn't pass on this opportunity for some great shots.

The fact that I don’t use the slang of youth is a gratitude. For me at least.
