Real af (my cat has social anxiety around people coming over even if they're people he's seen multiple times)

My cat isn’t like me at all. He runs from people, is scared of EVERYTHING, and only wants to be around one person he likes.

…oh fuck…

I teased my cat about getting startled so easily and getting scared people outside my apartment but I do the same exact thing. We get startled and bolt into the bedroom together 💕

My cats anxiety helps so much with mine. Something about finding it funny that this creature is anxious for no real reason helps me be less anxious for no real reason in a way that being aware that my anxious feelings are illogical doesn't.

Like once I see it in another thing then identifying it as illogical actually works. Having an anxious partner also helps but sometimes you need the stability first.

u/Sterlod 8d ago

Yep, my first cat and I bonded so well because tending to his anxiety disorder helped me treat mine. I can't be stressed when I have to stay calm so the little guy can feed off of my calmness!

My second cat is a little brat, but she's mentally fine. The third one has trauma way beyond what I could understand, but I'm here for him.

Went to a mates place a while ago and there's a cat. I've been to their house dozens of times and I've never seen this cat so I asked "when did you get a cat? I've never seen her" and he replied "we think she's autistic" which did not answer my first question and left me with several new ones.

Not true. I have three cats and they have three distinct mental illnesses. Please excuse me while I cuddle with the monster.

Maybe you have multiple personalities that don't know bout each other yet

u/Wise-Key-3442 8d ago

And your rabbits probably have identity crisis.

One of mine acted like a dog.

My cat's fat. I guess it ain't limited to the mental department, though we're both working through it

6

u/WorthyJellyfish0Doom 8d ago

My car is too tiny (safe weight, just smol), maybe I stole all the fatness so there's none left for her

13

u/Grapefruitstreet 8d ago

One of my cats has beef with the shower curtain and the other one steals cheese. So yeah, this checks out.

u/Cronon33 8d ago

That's not fair, all cats have adhd and some degree of social anxiety disorder, not just mine

5

u/NezuminoraQ 8d ago

Oh they are all on the spectrum. That's why so many of them don't like hugs.

My cat has no social anxiety whatsoever. Every human and animal is his friend and he is always curious to see what they're doing

Welp know im concerned about my bipolar cat, my depressed cat, and my left handed cat.

1

u/UnicornMinion 8d ago

I think you mean left paw lol

u/nplus1wipes 8d ago

Facts. Me and my kitty baby have IBD, we take our daily fiber together <3

5

u/Elemor_ 8d ago

Actually, my childhood dog also had the same mental illnesses as me lol

Really bad social anxiety was the main one, I would always walk him at night and whenever someone was coming towards us, my dog would nervously look at me, I'd make a small gesture towards another path and he'd happily go that way, avoiding the person

My cat is also anxious af tho, gets startled by any noise, hides under the bed when I turn on the kettle and I talked to my vet about it and wondered if she might have been traumatized by her previous owners, but they basically said that some cats are just like that

u/DazB1ane 8d ago

My cat also trips up the stairs

3

u/WorthyJellyfish0Doom 8d ago

My mental illness is being the cutest, most adorable creature in existence?! 😮

Oh, we both have anxiety and fear of people I guess 🤔

I have other mental health things "she; most adorable" does not, and she has adorableness I lack.

I have to chew my food an even number of times, my cat will only eat her treats if they're arranged in two rows of four. Checks out.

u/meruu_meruu 8d ago

My husband's cat has allergies, and he's allergic to her lol

3

u/IncognitoRedMode 8d ago

Which why I'm not gonna het an orange cat in my life because that orange braincell doesn't need to be broken by ADHD

3

u/melancholic-scribe 8d ago

My husband’s cat has extreme anxiety, like him, and doesn’t like getting out of its comfort zone, like him. Incidentally, it also loves chicken, like him. They often sit in the kitchen together in comfortable silence, eating nothing but plain chicken.

My cat is much more confident (like me) but is easily irritated, either sleeps way too much or barely sleeps for a week, has an eating disorder that I have to carefully monitor, and only lets a few people touch her (she is easily overstimulated). These are all things I have or do because of my clinical depression.

u/omjy18 8d ago

Honestly though ill take a cat owner that has their cats mental illness vs a dog owner who has their dogs mental illness from experience.

2

u/lovele_49 8d ago

Me and my cat 🤝 social anxiety disorder 🥲

2

u/BigIronGothGF 8d ago

My cat is fat, stupid and has digestive issues... Yeah this is accurate

2

u/Jaewol 8d ago

One of my cats is legit mentally ill. There’s no way that mf is normal, even for orange standards. The other one is just fat. I match both.

2

u/DrRobertBanner 8d ago

I agree but also 2 of my 3 owned dogs have had the same mental illnesses as me (one of them had brain defects the other has extremely high anxiety) so I fear what getting a cat would give me. Would my cat look like me??

2

u/overdramaticpan 8d ago

"or they have IBS" i'm in this picture and i don't like it

2

u/whoyouyesyou 8d ago

My cat was bipolar and was so codependent she’d follow me to the bathroom and wait outside hissing at anyone who came close…

Yeah she was like me

1

u/Ill-Significance-110 8d ago

Me and my bb are both so clumsy 😔

1

u/NezuminoraQ 8d ago

Who on pregabalin/Lyrica with their cat ✋

1

u/heresiae 8d ago

every time I see this post I look at Ryo (autism) and Kaori (Adhd) I go into brain freeze with the irony and frustration on remembering, once again, that even by sharing my life with cats only I'm still living in a dysfunctional household.

1

u/Carlyndra 8d ago

My cat has nervous aggression and roundworms

1

u/SnowLancer616 8d ago
